So let me get this straight: imaginary and expensive ship concept in a not made game is now even more imaginary and might never be made?

Why are people still pouring money into this?

Dreams.

Fleetwood Mac said it best:

But it's only me who wants to wrap around your dreams, and
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell, dreams of owning a Banu Merchantman?

Bunny man has been summoned!

Because its easier to fool someone than to convince them that they've been fooled.

I admit I poured a whole $35 into this, and that was probably a mistake... (there was a point just after kickstarter where the cheapest game package was $35 not $45)

Spending that amount to me is not insane though, its the loons spending hundreds of dollars / pounds on virtual ships that might make it in.

It’s that people are still doing this ten years after the Kickstarter that really baffles me. This game was supposed to be released in 2014, and CIG has a long history of broken promises alongside broken patches and game mechanics. And yet people willingly sink thousands of dollars into this vanity project of the wastrel Roberts.

Meanwhile, people call Ludeon Studios greedy because they don’t put a brilliant game like Rimworld on sale, when the base game is only $35. That’s practically the price of a movie these days, or a round of golf.

It boggles the mind.

New comers mostly see mainly CIG´s own promotional videos or uber fan ones. Those new prospective buyers do not have the benefit of the information in widespread critics and review scores (that would presumably be a bit more independent), like pretty much most of the popular early access games out there have. If SC, as an early access game, was scored like those other early access games the reviews would probably establish SC as a very crappy product overall, and that would likely affect new sales.

CIG is therefore doing all in its power to avoid that situation including, but not limited to, not clearly stating SC is actually in fact released already (in early access). The community and the market in general still erroneously believe that the PU, the game you can actually play now, is crowdfunded.

Lol, yeah, but there is also a lot of fake outrage out there.
