Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

In the games... spores were a big part of the gameplay and story. The infected when they died and were reduced to husks produced a fruiting body type of fungus which issued clouds of spores pervading interior spaces of buildings and the like. There are also types of infected that produced clouds of spores when they were killed or shot at. The TV series decided to change that for practical reasons and went over to mycelial tendrils as a means to portray how the fungus procreates, spreads and survives.

I don't get the reasons behind that creative choice personally since I much preferred the spore thing from the games, it made sense... besides not having the actors wearing gas masks for huge periods of time... which I suspect is the reason behind the change...but in the TV series so far, it kinda works 🤷‍♂️
The Cordyceps from the show is a fungus that spreads via tendrils and spores too

3.18 PTU going well:

Yup...and since thats how the real Cordyceps works, not a huge stretch of imagination for the story plot of the series. It also meant some clever-ish plot variations not having spores, since in the game, Joel is first convinced of Ellie's immunity after seeing her breathe spores, in the TV series...since that was now not an option, they had to go with (left the small spoilers with a click to reveal option) a second bite during the museum sequence.

I get the reasons for the change...having actors wearing gas masks for half an entire episode along with the technical and physical hurdles of that isn't practical for a TV series. Still much prefer the spores though, without those...how are the bloaters going to work? ;)

I guess we'll find out in later episodes :D

You could also do a special about the importance of bottles in games. Imagine: How all the bottles fell on LA's head and unmasked his claims as nollocks. How all the bottles under Mole's bedroom slow the server down. How you can improvise a deadly weapon just by throwing an empty bottle at the floor.
The bottle is refined metagaming. It's all you need to play a game and all you need to know to understand SC development.
