890, a great alternate choice to the eclipse!

the respawn timer makes it kinda rough.

but as they say in the concierge forum, Why not both!?


With the 890, you do risk getting boarded and killed if you run into people who know what they are doing, but that is like .05% of the player base. So should be fine.

Are they serious? How many pages ago were we speculating what the next major distraction would be rather than the Roadmap, SQ 42 vid or whatever everyone is supposed to have forgotten about this time?

I mean, how do they keep doing it? Its almost hypnotic.

The free fly was announced weeks ago, if not longer.

While the penguins are bullet proof, I dont think you could stack enough up to block a passage way without them despawning.

I don’t think free flies mollify or distract citizens particularly. (Unless they come with a giant sale and some capital ship hulls like last time).

They’re just part of the courageous marketing strategy of actually letting people see how beautifully broken the game is. (The free ships may turn a few new heads though ;))

Hang on, wasn't the point of the penguin to test persistence - as advocated by some not too far away?

Dont think so, they had "persistent" -ish turtles before the penguins.

Not that I knew of. At that time you always spawned in the same hab and the hab was persistent. You could have a huge turtle collection.

The turtles got taken out for special envelopes that you could turn in for credits. Something to do with Chinese New Year I think.

Yeah, it would be great. But let's do the meetup in the spaceport, because over 2 freeflys i've only once ever made it off the station.

We could stand around saluting each other though in the bar while waiting for the barman to react.

Pretty sure CIG know they will generate both more skpetics and more whales with each free fly.

Some people come in, not aware of CIG's history, not aware of how long still remains and other issues, see what's there, like it, accept it is alpha, and then get into it.

Some people come in, and like DG says, they leave thinking "my god, everything they said on Inside Gaming and other channels is true!" or those who never watched IG or other channels and are just turned off by the experience.

In the short term free flys are probably a win for CIG, and any criticism during the free fly can always be waved away with ITS ALPHA!

Long term though, they are just accumulating more and more skeptics and SC becomes more spoken about outside /r/sc and spectrum in negative terms.
