Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Star Citizen streaming is going so well that Berks got a real job.

This definitely feels like the slowest Planuary in a while...

Probably doesn't help that 3.22 amounted to a bunch of broken derelict sites, some hair, and another beam. Not that much to play with over the winter months.

(E: Oh yeah, and a jumble of half-baked Experimental Modes...)

Break the Siege - but I thought people were saying that SoO was broken? (as in non-functional). Should cause some humour :)

According to a post on refunds, you can't even fly your ships there, you have to take a shuttle. So there is no need to even buy a ship for this event!

On top, apparently, when you land in the shuttle, you're in a no-fire zone, you can't shoot, but those a bit away are outside it, meaning they can shoot into the no-fire zone at people exiting the shuttle.

Big brain move from CIG there.

Rookie mistake.

As it's slow-news month, let's hear from some backers who understand game dev :)

Metroid Prime dev and 10-year-backer:

Every Dev I know calls CIG a crapshow [...]

It's in a slow spaghetti code death spiral of assets that are designed to only work with this Frankencode abomination hackfest.

Concierge game dev veteran:

My dude, They showed off dynamic environment distruction. Which is at the VERY bottom of what should be developed right now.

Feature creep is straight up ruining this game as it's taking decades to get a functional and bug-free experience with no end in sight because they insist on adding new features over and over.

Main issue is new gameplay features keep getting added in - in most cases, things that pretty much every other game would add post-launch (things like Coffee machines, land vehicles, survival mechanics, salvaging etc...) They're trying to sprint before they can crawl, on top of that they're also working on squadron 42 which is no doubt syphoning manpower.

Typically in game development, "Pillars" are key aspects of the games identity and gameplay loop that persist throughout the games lifespan. Take another example, Destiny - That games pillars are Gunplay, Co-op and loot. D1 and D2 launched barebones because when they hit those pillars they launched, then built on top of them.

Star citizen feels like they're trying to do everything, everywhere all at once. Before anyone even has a firm grasp of "what are you even supposed to do in this game?" Like for the life of me, I cannot figure out why the game has survival mechanics. What is the point? It would be like if CSGO implemented agriculture and seasonal harvesting - "Where the is that supposed to fit in?"

I get that you see it that way, but when you look at what's playable and the systems in place already, it's hard to call it a scam - there really doesn't look like there's much to pocket after the work that was put into it.

Most games nowadays take 8 years to make off the back of existing engines & systems, Chris Roberts is an absolute fool for insisting everything be built from the ground up, but to some credit, that has also created systems we've never really seen before in a video game.

Not a Superfan or a super hater, I'm a skeptic who tried the game out and found that while terribly planned, the game is definitely not a scam - it'd be the worst scam in history considering the obvious costs that were put into creating everything.

Lmfao, right?
I saw this and was like "hahahahhahahaha, you can't even add in the ing idris M which was part of the original flipping kickstarter - which is already ingame and flying but STILL unavailable to the gullible suckers who paid thousands for it. As if this is going to be in-game at any point in the next decade"

Flip this scam. I genuinely used to see this game, but every year is a new concept ship and they've completely abandoned working up any of the larger concept ships for over 10 years. It's clearly a flipping scam

3 months ago said:
The reason why this game is a scam is because CIG will announce a new ship every year as a concept ship, leading newer players to think "Oh this is getting made now". When in actuality, That ship is LITERALLY never coming out.

and I am not being hyperbolic - ANY concept shop announced today will never be released.

When you buy a ship in star citizen, you are not buying a ship - you are "pledging", This is convenient because it removes all of your buyer protections and rights. CIG are under no obligation to tell you when your purchase will be delivered (because the ship is technically not what you bought), they don't even NEED to ever deliver it.

Case in point: Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/z3w06q/backlog_of_ships/

That is a backlog of "in concept" ships dating back to 2013. CIG themselves have said that it takes a "full year" to develop large ships. Disregarding variants, that means it will take over a decade to deliver on ships people already paid for a decade ago.

And, because you're not buying a ship, You cannot get a refund... Well, technically you can if you threaten to take them to court (and actually begin the procedure by serving them court papers).

So - To summarise, Star Citizen is a scam. They've positioned themselves very cleverly legally to sell ships for outrageous prices and never feel any pressure to actually deliver on them. They will cite rubbish like "The systems aren't in place yet" "The ship would be useless right now" and "there's no gameplay for it" - Then here's an idea, Don't sell the ing ship yet then? If you're not ACTIVELY working on it, you should not be able to ing SELL it. By claiming a ship is "In Concept" that implies it's actually being developed.

Ex game dev & $10k backer

Many bugs from 1-2 years ago are very much still there with new ones as well. And if you die, you now lose everything (guns/armor…even if you bought it) and a couple more time sinks added in.

Yes it can still take 30-45 minutes just to get in and get somewhere to start to really play.

The game has years to go yet, especially to prove its unicorn tech works and kills the mad desync.

(That's the short take, they have longer ones too ;))

PES Watch:

Yesterday:

We are currently planning on going LIVE with 3.22.0a late this evening. Characters in this new environment will be built from LTP data so items such as medpens, ammo, rentals, and refinery jobs will be lost.

Today:

So... what did you lost in this update?...

8O7R8Yt.png

didnt lose anything, but for some reason i now have a constellation

I got my lost c2 back, now i have 2. How do i make baby

890 jump has left the chat 😢
Same brother. 890J with a prospector inside it and a ballista in its belly.

I lost my pledged vulture, titan and andromeda

(Of course I will recover them using the store credit once I rebuy the entrepeneur pack and a verse package, but my titan is gone for good, for a while at least)

My friend just lost his reclaimer. They gave him a prospector in its place….

lost nothing, even got a railgun back that I lost when I went to jail lol.

They'd rather wear their "losses" as a medal than complain about the bad service.
Sometimes I wonder if these people are real and not just some random hackomatic conversation "AI". It just looks so incredibly stupid sometimes.

It's just another game within the game.

Figuring out whose ship you've got ;)

Is this normal?... (Ship Replaced)

So, patch hit. This is my first patch, as I've never stuck with the game until now.

I had a hangar of ships: Vulture, Ares Ion, C1, Lancer Max, Reliant Tana, and a Connie Taurus (My jack of all trades).

I hear it's best before a patch to retrieve/store all your ships to make sure they're safe, in case they're out in space somewhere or destroyed. So I do that, and retrieve all of them to my home station. But while waiting for the Taurus to arrive, I get disconnected: Guess the patch went live?

So I update, log back in, remake my character, a bit sad that I didn't know my armor would disappear. So then I go check the hangar, in fear of having lost my Connie. And I did. It was missing.

... And the slot it was in now held an 890j. I retrieved it and stored it, just to make sure it wasn't just a mistake. But it let me retrieve it again like I'd had it all along.

Is this a thing that happens? Did I just luck out immensely? Or not, since this thing handles like the actual Titanic? I kinda miss my Connie, and still at a spot in game where gathering up the funds via my Vulture to replace it will take me a day or two, with the amount I get to play. But is this a massive win and the best alpha bug ever, or did I get utterly shafted?

LPT = Long term persistence

They lose stuff because long term persistence doesn't persist what they own?
SC hasn't even figured how to do most basic database operations so they invent fancy names to coat they don't have a in clue how to make anything work behind the scene.
All they can do is make pretty scenery. All paint - no substance from the "talented team".

As always, CIG is anally focused on the microdetails, so there's basically more persistence in a tincan than in a spaceship or commando. Same as for AI: there's allegedly more lines of code in bartender logic than in NPC spaceships or grunts.
That is not surprising. With devs that can't figure out how to handle doors you wouldn't expect any spaceship 6 degree freedom AI or shooter bots. All they can handle is reiterating a dude behind a counter pouring drinks into vanishing glasses.

Still going 😁

It can be so weird sometimes... A month ago my friend let me try his Cutter, we used it for a bunker and I piloted it while he was in the back. Came back, landed at station, we both logged off. The next day he log and his Cutter doesn't appear in his ship list. And I check mine, I now got one... Flipped if I know how their game work honestly. I still have it, he doesn't (And actually he doesn't know why he had one in the first place, he only has an Aurora package but somehow a Cutter was in his list...)

I bought my first own Reclaimer yesterday after earning the 15mil aUEC myself over the last 5 weeks. Both the Reclaimer and the Vulture I used to earn the money got wiped along with the money I spent. Now I'm basically back to square one. Not gonna lie - feels bad

...I also lost a Freelancer Max. This ship was in my fleet for nearly a year. I barely used in during the last update since I mostly relied on the C2. I did try it out just to see how it works with x32-SCU boxes once or twice. I stored it and I removed the weapons, shields, QT drive and powerplants over a week ago.

The big hurt is my Corsair. I lost it now two patches in a row and had to buy it back. I stored it yesterday, removed the AD5Bs and QT drive and shields. The components survived the patch, but the ship I had to replace again.

Nothing! But I somehow gained two C2s!

Didn't lose anything even got my reclaimer back that disappeared last patch

And...

Is this normal?... (Ship Replaced)
[...] a Connie Taurus (My jack of all trades). [...] And the slot it was in now held an 890j.

...And little did I know that when I logged on again I wouldn't have an 890 in my terminal. I have a Connie Taurus...

In bizarre reviews news, Trustpilot has an entry for 'Starcitizen Store' in their 'Travel & Vacation' section...

All the reviews are for Star Citizen. And are mainly very very critical...

(It's running at 1.6 out of 5 at the mo)
Imagine what steam reviews would say. CIG know it would be a slaughter.
