Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Looks like Todd is just liking someone elses laying off message...that message isn't his. He was never a level designer for one, he was the director of live services and the PU ;)
Yep, that's exactly what it is. Here's another view of the same activity

The 'Erin email' guy reckons Trufin has gone too...

As you all know now I think, there was some layoffs at CIG. One big wave that just happened and some other here and there to keep it more quiet. As far as I know, NONE of them we're announced internally. When mentioned to some people who still work on the game, they were not even aware of it.

But yes, some people such as Todd Papy and Dan Truffin were made redundant to let them go. Others like Tony Z are still there but simply not on the projects anymore ( now that I think about it, yes that means getting paid by backer money without any contribution to the game). SQ42 peeps are taking over.

And they seem to have clarified their prior Tony Z take. He hasn't left, he's just been moved off SC projects...

Their previous Tony Z post was:

Tony Z isn't on Star Citizen anymore and has been removed from the project for a while now.

God only knows what Tony's interfering with if it's not SC...

FWIW I did some quick notes on this Tomato interview with the networking / database pros who've been fancasting about Server Meshing:

TLDR is perhaps:

Q: Is it taking too long?
A: * whispers* scope creep

;)

Generally they're both still interested / borderline optimistic. But with plenty of realistic caveats ;)

Can they license 'StarEngine' [48m]
They both think not on 'package and sell'
Tybio thinks 'if they can make SM work...' they could license as plug in ;)

Tybio thinks biggest challenge = the synchronization between all the microservices

56m15s - Tybio doesn't see them ever getting down to the scale of the SM demo in terms of granular servers etc. Esp for dynamic systems. What rule set would work etc?

59m - Is it worth doing it this way? Tybio doesn't know. (Not enough info)

1h: For Riggle the key issue is reliability vs latency. There are payoffs, where you have to favour one or the other.

(They ponder whether CIG could deal with inter-location latency by having one super localized server farm, as twitter attempted?)

1h3m - Tybio knows companies pulling out of AWS because it's expensive at scale. But those are bigger scales than SC is liable to reach.

1h7m - the 'second server' is what terrifies Tybio re static meshing rollout... :D

1h8m15s - Riggle v prepared for bugs. Ships blowing up, getting stuck in limbo, ending up where started

1h10m - Tybio hopes to at least be able to log in to have a bad dogfight ;)

1h10m50s - This just (ideally) sorts the server tick rate. It would be the start of fixing current problems, not the actual fix ;)

1h12m30s - Tybio's main optimism based on CIG's happy reaction to the SM demo

I mean, he was not wrong from a certain point of view. Moved off to what.

From Mike´s Discord: Thread asking for Todd Papy seemingly nuked. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/41868/thread/where-is-todd-papy

Now, let's see what's going on this week:

This Tuesday, Subscribers will get their monthly update via Comm-Link and Newsletter.

On Wednesday, the Roadmap Updates return! We'll have our first update of the year with our usual accompanying Roundup. Also on Wednesday, we'll publish January's Monthly Reports, with the Squadron 42 report arriving via newsletter.

Thursday, Inside Star Citizen takes a detour on our Road to Alpha 3.23 and explores the ever expanding role of Branding in our persistent universe, and how it's being used to shape and conform not just the way our developers work, but corporate and faction life in the Stanton and Pyro systems respectively.

Thursday also kicks off not one, but TWO events for Star Citizen. Celebrate the new year with love as both Red Festival and Coramor begin! These events also kick off our next Free Fly and Referral Bonuses, so its the perfect time to get your friends, your family, your pets, and your mailman into the game!

On Friday, Star Citizen Live returns to the classic Meet the Devs format to discuss the personal history of two of our most tenured executives: Chief Publishing Officer John Erskine and Vice President of Corporate Technology Mike Jones LIVE and in studio, where they'll share stories about themselves and from CIG's earliest days. Jared says it's about as far from last week's show as you can imagine, so take that as you will. We'll also deliver our Weekly Newsletter to your inboxes.

May your heart be your guiding key,

Strange. Can only think it must be a Turbulent project then.

So... what's happening with Quanta now Tony isn't involved?

Nothing, literally. According to Benoît Beausejour at around CitCon, work on the economy, quanta etc (ie the backbone of the SC mmo since that impacts resources, trading, mission generation, NPC behavior, reputation systems etc etc) has been stopped until further notice.
