Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The term blades refers to modular systems that are slotted into a chassis. Each can have different tasks or interfaces.

Yup, built a few HP C7000 blade enclosures, 16 BL460 half-height blades, redundant Flex-10 Modules , Brocade Fibre Channel Switches linked to the SAN ... Cracking ESXi rig ....

Hitbo might be hooked. Himself & Berks just sneaked onto someone's Polaris, killed the crew, set it to self destruct then EVAed to safety just before it exploded. Actually looked fun gameplay despite lots of jank (including a server error mid-heist). Even I wish they could get this working ..

'Don't look back while evacuating an exploding ship' is honestly the one cinematic idea CR has had that's vaguely translated into fun gameplay ;)

(Altho we should recall he wants everyone to be waiting for 'get dressed in your outside space cloths' animations as part of the process. So he could still ruin it ;))

But anyways, it's all fun and games until your hydration suddenly inverts for no reason ;)

(Is it flickering to negative values there? It looks like it's flickering to negative suddenly....)

But there's no gameplay in ship interiors.... 😛

The Pritchett Flight Model is still spoken of wistfully by the true backers like Mike & Camural
It is mostly a case of “the past was better” syndrome. In actuality Pritchett flight model was as convoluted as unnecessary given how the ships were put together, in many cases probably before he had even a chance to look at them.

So convoluted was his model in fact that in his CIG parting notes he describes how he had to include a system of “fixups” and cheat shortcuts to help devs arbitrarily achieve specific end goal flight effects. Not too dissimilar to what a simple arbitrary html table could have achieved irrespective of physics realism. And thereby bypassing and defeating the purpose of his model altogether. In Pritchett’s own words: “if it looks and feels fake, why not just fake it?”.

This was all in order to avoid all the undesirably painfull effects of an inputs based model with endless iterative geometry, mass and thruster design fine tuning, that would have never been able to solve and balance properly all the issues in terms of end goals for the also myriad of rule of cool pre-arranged ship geometries and locations for all thrusters in all the ships. Ships that first and foremost needed to look good to be sold before checking if physics would even make sense there at all in the first place.

I suspect that in a single player game like X4 where ships are not sold for money he will probably have much more leeway to affect ship design and do whatever.
