Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

To not suffer from bugs, we recommend avoiding the game tech demo.

Mole told us repeatedly that performance decides over game enjoyment and I tend to believe him. Star Citizen could offer the deepest, most complex and advanced gameplay out there but if it bugs and glitches or crashes all the time reception would be chilly and people would b+tch and moan because its not enjoyable. Sure some people are hardened regarding these things (and most active alpha testers are actually of that sort of people) but even they reach their limits. Enduring such conditions for a certain period of time is one thing but if theres no improvement, no progress over years then I can understand the growing unrest and frustration born out of CIGs inactivity.

Character will occasionally die in certain locations in the universe

Nice to see our very own sovapid getting credit in the patch notes ;)

Character will occasionally slip and fall running down stairs at Lorville's city gate entrance

The solution will be to add a new career, space lawyer, where you take Loreville's administration to court and sue them for damages.

Star Citizen is out...

But don't criticize it, because its still very early alpha.

Also, big lulz at the part about making stable releases.

Basically the crux of it. It's when the same bugs exacerbated by new and persistent bugs and server crashes remain patch after patch after patch...your tolerance tends to get a bit frayed. Most of the backers who've been around a while seem to tolerate it a bit better than the newer folks...mostly because it's us that will spend time discovering the workarounds... if any... and work through the more annoying ones like the peristent 30k issues as best we can.

Everyone has a limit to patience and tolerance though...and most of us have reached that limit a long time ago.

CIG is simply not going to get new players this way. Look at ED, even with it's greater stability, gameplay and coherence FD had to add elements to make the game new user friendly like tutorials and supercruise assist.

As for SC - buying a new ship and having to navigate a literal maze to even find it? Kills your motivation to play in very short order.

SC has it's fair share of regular newbies appearing...but in typical fashion, Ci¬G leaves it up to the longer term backers to guide the new folk around. There are still some of us left, but generally...most folks will just kill you dead simply for being there at the same time...assuming you find your ship in the first place ;)

Since there's not much to do by the way of gameplay loops, and because of the peristent and completely random 30K server errors murdering any sense of in game progression at the roots, dealing with other bugs and fostered by the general number of increasingly bored players, the PU has turned into an arcade PvP shooter and little else.

Already one of best possible experiences one can have I suppose :)

  • standing up from bed
  • running though the space station with blinking eyes
  • marvel at the potential this early glimpse promises
  • gawk at the sheer size of everything
  • consider finding your way to your ship one of the best experiences you ever had in a video game
  • puzzle your way into your ship for 10 minutes cuz ramps/stairs/doors are hard
  • be perplexed as to the player standing next to you in your own cockpit - freeze in bewilderment
  • get shot through the head by Sovapid from point blank range and your ship stolen
  • log out and make a 400 dollar pledge due to the immense promise this game shows
  • go to the FR megathread and pick up the banner to defend SCs honour

:D:D:D

I had an interesting conversation with a 'typical' SC newbie in game chat tonight.

Random n00b: "How do I kill people?...I can't get my pistol out and shoot someone in the head at this crap space station. This is pants!"

Helpful backer: "You can't, there's a no fire zone inside the station."

Random n00b: "That's just crap...I want to just kill people!"

Mole: "Hold the backspace key, that'll help..."

2 minutes later...

Random n00b: "Hey...I died! You said it would help me kill people!"

Mole: "It did...You're people aren't you?"

Sometimes I feel with them. But they are old enough for their decisions to trust crobbers.

I tried cargo running, lost 400K. Posted on the forums... apparently that was my fault for being so stupid as to try to do something in the game.

Heh, he was hit with the typical backer response. Its not the game's fault, its your fault.

Also love how everyone pivots to "its not meant to be enjoyed, its there to be tested" when criticism comes up, but watch these same people wax lyrical about how good it is in a thread praising the game.

I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the missile improvements in 3.11!

Lol they are still testing the basic mechanics so SQ42 is nowhere near to beta.

[Grind] so extreme and the pay-ff so small that it feels like actual work for next to no gain. P2W kills a game

You are doing it wrong! Here, let me show you how to play those kind of games properly:
1. Find a second job
2. Use money from your second job to buy stuff in the game
3. WIN!!

CIG is simply not going to get new players this way.
CI-G don't need new players, only money. If one is content to pay them for jpegs, not gameplay, they are more than happy.

I'm serious. What exactly would you like me to do, RSI? Because I'm not wasting HOURS trying to mine with the ROC anymore. What am I supposed to do when it takes hours to fill the ROC with stuff to sell and I ALWAYS get a 30K before I can even fill that thing up?

lol. i've done plenty of mining with the ROC. You know how many time i've filled it up? Zero.

not worth the risk of a 30k.

is what it is. can either fill it up 1/2 way and get some credits out of it or go outside and yell at the clouds.

wonder if he'll ever figure it out.

Sure, but i'm talking about the comments of others, how they pivot from its for testing to best game ever depending on whether its criticism or praise being offered.
