Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Funny indeed. This spaceship goes kaboom when trying to flip an upside-down car with its nose during a car's race on a planet.

I may misread your tone/intent, so apologies in advance if that's the case but... are you trying to paint this explosion as totally realistic and not a ridiculous bug?

Because if so, navy ships should start replacing missile launchers with buggy launchers.

Sorry, hard to give some specific tone when not in your primary language.
There is a bug in this video but also a very cool race with a lot of fun for all drivers. And the bug was triggered by an action you simply can't do in a lot of space games.
AA is really focused on bugs. He didn't realise that he was posting a video about a bug but also a cool video with lot of fun in it. And he tries also to mock something he seems to have no clue about (mining laser). A very focused analysis indeed 😁

Really? Which ones? I can't really think of any where you can't do that.

That's a bit silly. Most space games can't do that since they're focused on space and not on surfaces.

However, it's been a thing in ED since Odyssey (both the racing and the ship interaction, people have lifted SRVs into orbit like that), and it's absolutely doable in both Space Engineers and Empyrion. In the case of SE, you could probably even design a ship specifically to act as a ground vehicle recovery service.

edit: also, SE would allow you to actually add race markers/gates, and/or to customise the track itself, either digging it into the ground or have it go through tunnels inside mountains, or with ramps/bridges over chasms. You could also add automated turrets around to discourage taking shortcuts!

In fact, to be clear: the latest standard feature of every game ever that you're gushing over because since SC is doing it too, it has never been done before, is essentially this.

Now, answer the question. And try not to show such an absolutely shocking wilful ignorance of what people have been doing for the last, oh, two decades (or four) or so this time.

Explains why that other game added this (and the other sensors): https://astroneer.gamepedia.com/Medium_Sensor_Arch

This is beyond sad. Where have these people been for the past 8 years, or is there really no border to naivety?

It must be a bit worrying though when you find out that the game you have heavily invested in (less than 50 Euros in 8 years) is not as groundbreaking as you first thought.

Seriously?

You need to play more space games, then.

Off the top of my head, I know you can do this in Kerbal Space Program, Elite: Dangerous, and Space Engineers. I think you can do this in Empyrion: Galactic Survival... well, I just tried that out, and that's a no, much to my disappointment.

But in my experience, fully working physics is the norm, not the exception, in space games. It's gotten to the point where I assume that's the case unless I deliberately test it out.

From that video it just looks so amateurish. The ship jerks around horribly, and the whole thing is so spartan. If you'd told me it had taken over 10 years to get to that point and I knew nothing about SC I wouldn't believe you. From someone outside looking in, it looks awful.

A Wholesome Story

"Star Citizen is revolutionary, XYZ has never been done before!"
"Games A, B, and C, already do that that."
"Oh, I didn't know about those."
"Then why did you say 'Star Citizen is revolutionary, XYZ has never been done before'?"
"Sorry, it's because I'm a naïve fool just parroting other idiots. I haven't played many games."
"Huh, really?"
"Yeah. I'm sunk emotionally and financially in Star Citizen. I feel I need to protect it."
"Yikes dude, it's just a game project. Have fun instead."
"Please can you help me - what games should I try?"
"Sure thing fellow gamer, let's play some fun released games together! We can start with Game A."
