Ah good question, indeed the refuel mechanics is part of the original game. What's emergent here is the group organization itself, with the whole code names for various procedures, and how they created a whole system for rescuing stranded people, which was definitely not part of the game. The fact that FDev gave them an in-game faction, and that you KNOW you can call "the Fuel Rats" if you get stranded, is a validation of that emergent property: a new, coherent group and meta-game emerged from the basic game elements that were given at first.

Personally I think that is idiotic ED's ships are not like modern aircrafts. Ie. paperthin lightweight stuff. But more like ships at sea. No manportable weapon unless lightweight nuke is going to sink modern ship. Likewise SAMs should have no real effect against properly shielded ship.that let's you take out whoever/whatever is attacking your ship. Regardless, the game's going to an need efficient counter tactic for space leg SAM tactics. Because the asymmetric warfare from aerial assaults are going to be way too OP in the future. Especially if space legs is no where near a settlement on the surface. If your ship is too badly damaged (like what happened to that streamer), you should have the capability to quickly exit the ship, fight/defend/kill whatever is attacking you. And if you survive the encounter (either RNG AI triggered or direct PvP attack), Cmndrs should have the tools/resources to repair said damage SE style. At least to the point where the ship is minimally flyable so you can fully repair it at a station.
Anyhow despite all it's fatal flaws, SC does have some truly commendable features for emergent game play. The first few minutes of that stream is proof of that.
That whole Judge Dread thang. Ni. Nunca.. Jamas. No. Just no.
The point would be to try and play it like a normal person coming to the game would play it, with my own foreknowledge of some of the things that exist in the game and how to do some stuff, which will help overcome the inital learning curve. I'll fly a starter ship, like a pleb, and see what i can do and how far i can get.
OK if you have minimal knowledge of places like Grimhex, Levski or HMC Oparei. It took me several weeks to know about them and visit those places. Those trying the alpha during freefly often spent more time trying several ships than visiting the world. The point would be to try and play it like a normal person coming to the game would play it, with my own foreknowledge of some of the things that exist in the game and how to do some stuff, which will help overcome the inital learning curve. What happened to that BGS simulation they displayed back in CitizenCom 2018? 2019? And the Theaters of War (which Rexzilla had such an ePeen hard on from informally/unwittingly promoting a long time before?). I think CI formally "introduced" this as an official game feature in that stage reveal over a year or so ago at CitizenCon. Where Chris was increasingly being out talked/marginalized by some dev guy. Don't know his name, but this dude seemed to be in charge of producing ToW. And he really went about manhandling Chris on stage with the ToW presentation. As of now, SC has really no working complete gameplay loop (mining would be the closest, but the underlying economy is still missing completely), much less what would be needed to see "emergent gameplay", well.. emerge from that. What was on that vid was just basic functionality, broken physics, and certainly not a gameplay loop by itself.
Also SC lacks the multiplayer support to really see emergent gameplay appear. It's a property of large systems, and currently SC is barely multiplayer, as of now getting to 50 players gets the servers to suffer a slow painful death.
Agreed, racing is a much better example, even though it lacks a reward loop mechanic (could be solved in SC with direct payments to players i guess). This could happen in SC as well honestly if the demo/alpha was a bit more stable, and maybe allowed for more people on the server. With that and proper persistence, we could build a "game in a game" and that's emergent.Dunno, that still sounds like a player guild focusing on a single game mechanic to me. And to do the only thing that this mechanic can do. The fact that FD exert such a paranoid control over factions doesn't change anything imho. For something 'emergent', I'd point at the racing personally. There are no specific mechanics, no tracks, no timers, and nothing in the game pointing you towards it, but some people made it a thing.
It's nowhere to be seen on any roadmap until 2022. So dont hold your breath...What happened to that BGS simulation they displayed back in CitizenCom 2018? 2019?
It was silently dropped like a lot of other features. And the Theaters of War (which Rexzilla had such an ePeen hard on from informally/unwittingly promoting a long time before?).
Well first it would not be a game feature, but a completely separate game, which itself would be just a Battlefield clone of sorts. And no there's no game loop in there as implied by the name "loop" it means there's an action/result cycle -> in the case of Rexzilla it was just posturing around, there's zero net result from his roleplaying, as SC has absolutely no gameplay that's associated with what he did. FWIW you could do the same in Arma and actually have a full game loop (with battle results).I think CI formally "introduced" this as an official game feature in that stage reveal over a year or so ago at CitizenCon. Anyways, even if an ED style BGS is still on the drawing board, CI has
- enough player data on player feedback/gaming habits
- enough game assets (ships land vehicles) and
- enough stats on PvP (regardless of it being open world sandbox or structured Space Marine)
to warrant development of an official ToW by this point. Doesn't matter how incomplete/unpolished it is. But ToW is by default of player agency (i.e. Rexzilla) an emergent game play loop.

I personally experienced the "vehicle is sent at ludicrous speed to space" physics bug without too much effort. That was trying to get on a ship ramp in my case. Happened at a random location too (map seam i think, throws off the coordinate system so the physics engine loses track entirely and there you go). Really not fun if you are trying to do something else...
A really big race already exist since 2 years, it's the Daymar rally and it was this saturday. It's a big organisation accross multiple servers with a lot of players involved in several race's categories with support teams.Agreed, racing is a much better example, even though it lacks a reward loop mechanic (could be solved in SC with direct payments to players i guess). So it seems there were racetracks.
But they are now 'by the wayside' because the prog gen surfaces kept breaking them.
Apparently there is also a race track around Grim Hex. Which also does not work.
But then they brought in 'scramble races' instead with 3.4, which were 'equal parts harrowing and hilarious' and 'will be expanded later':

They didn't work particularly well in PTU. And then got 'temporarily disabled' in 3.7
But they do seem to be in the game currently. Apparently they’re almost impossible to organise due to having to fly to the starting line with your own vehicle. Which in SC is a big ask... That was one of the few vids from the last 6 months I could find.
This whole game is a memory hole...
Short answer...noLook.

All I'm trying to do is read about Star Citizen's development progress and discussions thereof. What do we get instead? Most of the content here is fluff and food related. I would have thought with all of those Ten years ++ of development we would be in the situation of having a playable game with fifty star systems to explore!
I'm hoping that some kind soul does no longer write walls and walls of analysis and text (peers at MTBFritz) and writes a nice tldr book volume summarising this (and the preceeding ELEVEN threads) and shows me the tangible release of the "game".

Can we all play Sq42 now plzzzzzz? If so, when is it out, and can I plx play it at 75% sale for ten of your earth pounds please?
tldr;
My post here has no reason.
I'm aware of it. Waiting for more stable servers, bigger player limit to make this really interesting, and working economy so we can even have in game rewards.A really big race already exist since 2 years, it's the Daymar rally and it was this saturday.
