Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

He´s an interesting chap. He keeps droning on the same line over and over:

Not only that, he will often throw in a dismissal of the other person's opinion or make a derogatory statement about them.

Example:

False. We have already seen some of the AI work come into the PU in 3.18, both the ability to shoot at ships now and the behaviours in combat. With more then shown off, then they also shown a lot of shared features last year at citizencon with some views of locations they created.

You're just showing you could not care less about representing things remotely accurately, you just say whatever you can get away with that you know people will give you validation whether you misrepresent things or just make it up as you go along.

I'd prefer the systems to move around the galaxy, but understand it would be a huge technical challenge for FD, and ultimately, the speed at which they would move would not really be noticeable. The fun thing with planets orbiting in ED is that over time the systems change configuration, and with some planets, you can even watch them orbit in real time. That adds a level of realism. I once was in a system where several planets were in near perfect alignment, each one eclipsing the next from the sun.
It would be cool to see the stellar orbits when closer to the center of the galaxy but rendering a dynamic real time skybox might be a bit beyond current consumer tech, maybe in another 20 years or so? Also, it's true that it would be utterly wasted development for 90%+ that makes up the rest of the galaxy that would only show any discernable movement on scales of tens of thousands of years. Or about when the beta for Star Citizen comes out.

At least with planetary orbits you can get the once in a lifetime moments that can be rare alignments etc..

Full size planets shouldn't be a technical challenge for SC, after all, ED has already done it, and CIG have way more resources to implement it than FD.
With the resources they have they could have created their own bespoke engine and version of star forge with all the fidelity they needed, but apparently that's only what less than AAAAAAA game developers do.

Here you go... :p

These two are good, the other two were decent but nothing that I've seen better in other games, including Elite. Though it is a definite immersion breaker to know that the sun in those pics is just a skybox point light and not a real rendered star. They still look great though, to be fair, I especially like the colors of the second one I quoted.

Not needed in Skyrim. Do players even notice? Day and Night has gameplay implications, hitting window for a Hohmann transfer does also but it's for different audiences and the SC audience doesn't particularly strike me as the scientific explorer player.

Reading that and Sovapid's responses makes me reconsider my view that Starfield won't be that disruptive to Star Citizen's player base and development. It was based on the thought that core Elite players (including me) like the orbital stuff etc. which Starfield won't provide so therefore won't effect any decision to break with Elite, though obviously there is also a section that isn't that fussed with it for whom Starfield may deliver what they want and may jump to Starfield from Elite. However, I thought it was a similar crosssection for Star Citizen and Elite in that way - the spiele being that Star Citizen is the "higher fidelity" version of Elite Dangerous, but it is becoming clearer to me that those types of players probably would have jumped ship from Elite to Star Citizen already, or be straddling both, so therefore may intersect with Starfield's target player on a much greater level than I had previously thought.

At the end of the day it's just my own musings, but I think it will be interesting to see how this all plays out, no pun intended.

hmmmmmmm......

you ever see him in game?
Played alongside a couple of times, never spoke to in person via voip though... we've been at each other's throats on the forums since the old Kalimari days... but always had each other on the contacts list. Judging purely by text chat since they didn't have voice on when we've played, he/she's a different entity in game than on the forum is all I'll say 🤷‍♂️

You know things are bad when supershill Boo Huxley is depressed about the project
Not a shill at all...white knight, most certainly...but she's still on my friends list even though we often come to blows disagree about the project :)
How cute :ROFLMAO:

???
Couldn't you just go faster than FTL in a video game? Devs make the rules, no?

I don't know, is that allowed? Of course we don't do FTL in ED, it's a special warp effect where the ship isn't traveling faster than light, it just appears to be, that way we avoid the rather messy repercussions of the mass increase as speed approached that of light. Your mass becomes infinite if you reach light speed, unless you are a zero mass object, could work with that of course, some sort of field that reduces mass to zero, gets rid of inertia as well so you could do zero to light basically instantly! But of course that was one of the principals when Quantum Travel was introduced, not FTL, so you can't Quantum Travel to another systems, it's all special jump points and forcing players through chokes to get that juicy PvP.
