Can’t see if this has been like this for a while or not. But it would seem that CIG has closed off most job openings except engineering.

I was actually surprised that after FDEV consultation process announcement CIG had not immediately posted in Twitter to welcome applications from FDEV personnel as they have done in the past in other similar cases

Does look like a hiring freeze in the main doesn't it.

Nov 2022 looked like this:

(Interestingly or young engi friend from a few pages back got his Senior promotion in 2023 as well. So he went from Engineer III to Lead within a year. Seems like there are some voids to fill there still...)

A couple of months ago it was still around 100 vacancies. That's quite the drop, so either scaling things back or have filled a lot.

I'm tempted to go with the latter, considering most of the software industry is suffering a decline at the moment, so even a job at CIG is probably tempting when you need to put food on the table.

Vacancies in programming? Actual Dev work.

He joined in Nov 2017, so it was 6 years all told. But yeah, it's this broader picture it paints: Leads who've never shipped a game all stacking up within CIG. Nurtured within a world where just keeping the wheel spinning in a live environment is accolade enough...

I always think this whole 'green dev' theme is most telling for senior engineers too. It's common to hear tales of experienced engineers being gold dust precisely because they know how to structure code to avoid pitfalls and conflicts downstream as everything scales up. (Having run into various self-inflicted walls themselves, and dealt with the capricious scope switches of stakeholders, in prior projects etc).

As much as I'm not sure any dev could future-proof the code against Roberts-tier revisions, I can't imagine these student promotions are gonna fare any better...
This is interesting. I wonder what kind of long term implication CIG hiring and promoting people without much experience will have on the industry 10+ years in the future.

They need more people in marketting?

Not any really.

Unless those hiring are pretty clueless.

Fast promotion can be a reason to look into someone as a potential genius, but they'd have to demonstrate it during the interview process that they were worthy of it.

Once they started blabbering on about staggered development and all the other anti-patterns they'd learned at CIG they wouldn't make it through to the next round.

God only help them if they make it to the coding test....

I mean, it´s technically possible of course. Do not think it is anywhere near realistic though. I´d imagine if that was the case at the very least we would be able to see a significant uptick in CIG employees in LinkedIn in the last couple months alone. Alas...

Some alternatives being discussed elsewhere:

* The Turbulent crew being absorbed into CIG has removed the need for those roles.

* The added wage roll of the Turb guys (alongside the funding dip) has put a crimp on expansion for now.

Could be. But most of the Turbulent employees were already fulfilling a role for SC / SQ42 even before the acquisition. And the vacancies were still up at that time. If anything CIG costs on that regard now should be lower, that was one of the points of the acquisition, I hope.

Yep. (Although they were hiring pretty consistently themselves prior to the merge. Possibly without the reputational stink of being CIG ;))

But yeah who knows on costs ultimately. (Classically you wouldnt expect staff to cost more than contractors for sure. But if Turb paid well to attract staff, and they're slotting in to vacated CIG roles at volume... ¯\(ツ)/¯ )

DTEA asks "How do they keep this up?"

Good question.

Playground Pyro is "pre-alpha". You can't make this stuff up.

With access only to the Peasant Universe, I hope the Ship Show un-borks the ship database. After my Prospector was gone, I tried renting one but that also failed to appear in the ASOP terminals. One trick from a fellow believer was to "buy the ship that is first in your VLM" (with aUEC). Bought the Cutlass to no effect. Another suggested that renting an Avenger Titan got them their missing ships back. Databases. Never been done before...
