Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

LOL, and still not flight ready. Funny how they don't mention that on the store page. Ah, it does on the alien week page, in small print at the top of the image.

Clicking on it, phew, its in stock! And i had to look around, but yes, they do note its "In concept".

I bet they sell loads of them.

Does the Xian Syulen starter ship punch above its weight?

Amazingly not...

The Syulen cargo vessel has been artfully crafted by the renowned House Gatac to perfectly suit both Human and Xi’an pilots. With an agile frame, the Syulen lends itself to quickly ferrying important deliveries across the universe or as the ideal ship for those making their transport career debut.

Why would the Xian make the ships perfectly suited to humans? Have you seen the Xian? They are turtle humanoids. Its not like you could make seats that would fit both races easily. And why would they put in the effort?

Because everything is just made up and pulled deep from their rear. Making it up is a staple in game dev. Faking it is also. It's just that CIG sucks at even making the fake believable and decent enough so the facade doesn't instantly fall to pieces.

CI(G?) have gone so far into the fakery that they've ascended to faking the fakery by now.

I guess that monetisation engineer or whatever figured their stuff out.

Well, it seems to be working. Funding has been relatively high now for a long time.

Just goes to show about the psychology of sales and how well they work.

Most of the sales don't really pull in that much. Only when they dangle new ships or concepts. They were down ~20% before Invictus but the Ironclad really helped them. But they're down ~25% in new accounts YoY. It's just the same fat whales getting fatter at this point.

Imagine - just for a moment - if in the last Frontier Unlocked, Arf said "We're also releasing the Panther Clipper. £500. We're not sure when it'll be in the game though, so we'll just give you an image of the render to tide you over until then."

Hilarity would ensue.

But these fellas do it week in, week out, and people fall for it every time

Yes, but don't get me started on the pre-order/early access for the Python Mk2.

One of the most interesting things I got out of reading The Wealth of Nations, besides Mr. Smith’s fascinating insights on the brewing American Revolution, is how little people have changed in the last 250 years.

Don't over-test the bugs!

We've completed an investigation into multiple exploits within Star Citizen that compromised stability and negatively impacted the in-game economy. As a result, we have resolved multiple aUEC exploits in 3.23.1a, and we've identified and suspended over 600 accounts involved in exploitative behaviors while also removing the illicitly gained aUEC from the Star Citizen ecosystem.

The "exploit" is caused by sticky invisible cargo. The only way not to exploit it is to destroy the ship after selling off the cargo.

More like 250,000 years. We're only a few meals away from bashing each other over the head with rocks. Although i'm sure some people would try and trade those rocks for JPGs :D

So they're actual sales now? None of that 'pledging' to support the development anymore? How do you get a discount on development funding, it's already worth 5x the value at other studios.

Presume you aware already but just in case: CIG stopped SC being 100% crowdfunded when they released it in early access. According to their own statements sometime around 2016 or so.
  • If you buy a game package, you are buying the game as is. Regular purchase, like buying any other game, as the game has been released in early access.
  • If you buy a ship that is in the game, same thing. Regular purchase, as the ship DLC is also released in the game.
The only case where it could be perhaps remotely considered that you are still "backing/pledging/crowdfunding" is for vehicles that are in the concept stage, not yet in game. Alas, given SC´s ToS (and unless you contest those) in practicality you are not backing anything. The ToS essentially says that in this case you are just giving extra money to CIG, out of the goodness of your kind heart, without any obligation whatsoever for CIG to give you anything in return.

And SQ42 can not be pre-purchased at this time. Hasn´t been available in the store for over a year.

I didn't know that. I remeber TOS saying they can't refund or something, but if that's now it is it's even worst. It's basically telling anyone who bought it without reading the EULA, "suckers". And people are still saying it's alpha? Pretty much gives them a free pass to ditch the game any time and run with the money.

Well, at least the EA for the Python MkII is 16,520 Ark = £9.59 / €11.49 / $12.99... one of the ships of this Alien Week, the San'tok.yāi, sells in the store for £232.32 / €270.07 / $290.40... and the Nox, a simple motorcycle, without interiors, without complexity, is £43.56 / €50.64 / $54.45...

I know that you already know all this, I don't want to be rude, but I believe it is an undeniable truth.
