Subpar!?! I won't let you denigrate when Chris and top managers excel at something: it's überpar mismanagement.overpaid for the subpar mismanagement of SC.
edit:CIG = CIoud Imperium Greed lol.
The " almost all the money gets spent on development" is misleading, because Chris Roberts and top staff get overpaid for the subpar mismanagement of SC. Chris Roberts, Erin Roberts, Sandi Roberts, Ortwin Freyermuth and co. are co-owners of the video game company Cloud Imperium Games. Their shares are worth millions of dollars until too many people lose faith and development implodes. Before that happens, CR and co would sell their shares. So when Chris Roberts announces that he will step back or leave the project, that is when things get really bad.

So what did we learn this "watershed" year for SC?

Why the future tense? The Roberts Clan has already sold part of their shares at least twice. Only part of Calders’ $60 million was new shares, if the legally mandated information we got from the UK shell company was reflective of CIG as a whole.
Just a quick addition/clarification there. CIG "shares" are not traded publicly in any stock market like FDEV shares or Microsoft shares etc. And the CIG "shares" price is set arbirarily by CIG, not by market supply and demand.
As such, Chris Roberts can not easily sell his "shares" like we usually see in stock markets. The only option he has used so far, is to sell his personal "shares" to CIG itself. Since he happens to also be CIG´s boss he can easily accept to purchase his own "shares" at whatever price he chooses. The money for this transaction comes directly from jpg sales obviously, so this in essence is Chris Roberts simply grabbing more players money for himself at will, over and beyond his already very large remuneration package.
If he wanted to sell his shares outside CIG he would need to hunt for a specific buyer or buyers and negotiate a price with them. Which is a much more cumbersome and challenging process, than just selling shares openly in the stock market.
Lol, yeah, although Chris would have first to sell his own personal shares to CIG (for CIG to be able then to put those up for sale at the store), and we would eventually see that at least in the UK accounts I suspect.New idea: Chris sells shares in CIG on the store! Now's your chance to become part of this amazing company that is developing never before done technology!
I can imagine whales falling over themselves to buy up all the shares, and in the end, Chris fully divests himself and rides off into the sunset leaving the suckers... erm, backers, holding the bag.

I can not even dare to imagine what would the terms and conditions be for that kind of sale![]()

What's stopping CIG from selling the IP and shared to Chris Roberts for $1, only for him to sell it right back ti CIG for $1mil? Rinse and repeat for how ever long they can continue to pull it off.Just a quick addition/clarification there. As such, Chris Roberts can not easily sell his "shares" like we usually see in stock markets (same goes for the Calders shares actually). The only option he has used so far, is to sell his personal "shares" to CIG itself (which is exactly how the Calders put option works). Since he happens to also be CIG´s boss he can easily accept to purchase his own "shares" at whatever price he chooses. Feels like a builder building a house based off a suggestion, and then buying the same house he built from the person with the idea.New idea: Chris sells shares in CIG on the store! Now's your chance to become part of this amazing company that is developing never before done technology!

I don't see it in the link, only patch notes.I guess the fact that CIG already paid someone handsomely for the IP
(I suspect CIG know that eager eyes would pick up on any attempts at official repeats).
In theory? Nothing. What's stopping CIG from selling the IP and shared to Chris Roberts for $1, only for him to sell it right back ti CIG for $1mil? Rinse and repeat for how ever long they can continue to pull it off.
