Chris is putting gloss on the same game he always makes- Wing Commader, Starlancer...now this.
Thats insane.I think it's still episodic. Or possibly very episodic.
They showed pre-recorded gameplay.
Cutscene crash
Chris Roberts: "I played this beginning to end, didn't have the crash" sure... The guy who shouted "we love it" was probably a CIG employee.
Quick summary:
00:00 min
25 min
- Pre rendered cut scenes
- Some turrets thrill
- Bishop speech again
30 min
- More turret thrill with vanduul flying in straight line
45 min
- Crash
- More cutscenes, now with torpedos
- More turret thrill (jesus f christ)
60 min
- More cutscenes with vanduul shooting now
- more cutscenes, no actual player flying gameplay
- Crash
- Chris excuses, sponsored PC
- Cutscenes played back again because of crash
80 min
- Still more cutscenes
- 65 min FPS barely, crouching plus cutscenes
- Some combat with vanduul, looking quite pre cooked
- Push pull?
90 min
- More cutscenes / "piloting" an Idris, the only ship "piloted" in over an hour and a half.
- Gilian glitching when vanduul arrive
- Shooting some vanduul
- Gilian glitches again with no weapon, crash
- Bugged, load next section
All in all, barely 15-20 min of "gameplay", highly precooked at that: turrets mostly, then some crouching or shooting at targets not shooting back.
- More cutscenes
Surprisingly underwhelmed. Seeing this demo with so little gameplay, using parts of the tutorial only, and Chris saying 2026... I have close to zero confidence the rest of chapter 1 is anywhere near feature or content complete.
As for Chris latest 2026 announcement... this time is 2026 for sure, for real, trust me bro.
Hold on.... just hold your bloody horses.
90 min preview of SQ42?
Whatever happened to "Can't show SQ42, because spoilers?" - they forgot about that again?
Sqn 42 fps with screen tearing
The whole event is inspired by Apple key-notes which traditionally had an audience peppered with hyped up employees cheering stuff they had or hadn't seen from other departments.
CIG is basically the gaming Theranos, same reliance on smoke & mirrors, same desperate fascination with Apple by their CEO.
Also Chris Roberts complaining that he played it "last night and it was fine" and "ten QA testers played it last night and it was fine" is a small sample of what will happen if they ever do release an actual "finished" game.
