Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yes because at least there is some official communication about it. Instead fdev has shut any door about any potential information

I would argue that communicating and then not delivering on that communication (all the while accepting money for it), which seems to be continuous tenet for CIG, is even worst than no communication. It is actually misrepresentation and deception.

There's an everlasting impression from Ci¬G these days that there's nobody really in charge any longer...the senior devs that are left holding the can are all appearing more and more like they're desperately dragging stuff out of the fire just in a last ditch attempt to keep this gigantic collander of game ideas floating by plugging some of the holes with spit.

Whether the snake oil salesman has finally abandoned ship with the rest of his nepotistic family into some tax haven or have been forced onto the sidelines by the new investors is unclear...but it's certainly apparent to all but the most steadfast of fanboys that something has been seriously amiss at Ci¬G since the much touted planning week at the beginning of the year.

I reckon they pared down the project development in that planning week (which turned into an entire month) to a bare minimum all round...that includes development of Sqn 42. It's not hard to grasp this when looking at the plans from last year and the actual development or non development this year where everything bar minimalistic fluff additions has fallen completely off the map.

Call it a hunch :)

Reminds me of what I've read about ghost ships, abandoned and lost at sea just drifting wherever the waves may take them. Sometimes for years.

Tony is another dreamer. A more likeable one, although less of the salesman. CR is a good salesman. If Clive Sinclair had CR on board a few decades ago we would all have been driving C5 believing we were driving Mercedes, except for those on the /r/c5_refunds sub who would be posting memes about CR and CS.

However, i'd like to propose Tony for President of Earth for Life, because he just seems like a chill guy who wouldn't really mess anything up by implementing silly things like policies. He'd probably be more concerned about the state of his rug....

I think anyone can be a good salesman when you throw morales out the window and blatantly start to lie and sell things that don't exist.

That's not my point to defend CGI. My discussion I think was taken from another thread that started talking about VR.
The point was actually that SC has technology that for some reasons FDEV still struggles to add into ED like seamless transitions, multiplayer/multicrew, multiple terrain vehicles, planetary mining and so on.
Another example, SC has walking inside the ships since ever and FDEV still don't confirm if it will be available for Odyssey. It's kinda disappointing...
I think SWG had these things 2004 with Multicrew. To be Honest the multi crew in SC is such an unthought concept that makes me speechless.

I’m not so new I backed the game back in 2015
Look, MoleHD mostly answered for me, but notice how i never mentioned other games in my argument (unless asked for a list of them in one instance). Because comparing SC, which is currently between pre-alpha and technological demo stage, and fully released games is worthless.
So you decide to go on the "SC is a full game and i'm comparing it to other released games" approach... I could pick so many examples in your laundry list of arguments (by the way, dont try and gatling-shoot your CiG talking points..), lets try just one. You talk about multiple SRV's compared to ED single Scarab. Alright. With the Scarab, we can explore (with various scanners), with fully associated gameplay loop (getting money and materials out of it, and elite rank), collect engineering materials for upgrading our ships, blast things out and collect more things for various surface missions, which are proc gen by the way and in vast numbers.
Let's see what we can do with surface vehicles in SC. Hmmm... Not including the meta-game where you try and fit a Nox in a Cutlass cargo bay (good luck achieving that !!) without having the physics engine throw a fit and your Nox into orbit at instant warp speed... Not including "taking screenshots for the subreddit" which is also not gameplay proper... See where i'm coming here..

So lets be serious. The current situation of SC is, there is no game. It's a patched-together Cryengine mod that tries and work around its own limitations, with disastrous side effects that will never be fixed, in any way. There are very few gameplay loops, space trucking being one, and even that is very embryonic to say the least. So how much game content is there ? Not so much at the moment. You can climb in my Retaliator and go shoot pirates from a turret. It's a good 15 minutes of honest fun when you finally reach that point. You can try and battle 30K errors and trade cargo, with a completely static economy inside one single system. You get over it quickly. You can try and go mining, again avoiding 30K errors like a ninja, granted that's maybe the only complete game loop so far. You can try and do one of the handful of hand crafted missions, but these are terrible, buggered messes that end up with that terrible FPS mission where the "AI" is just brain dead (and respawns, by the way, since there's a single location for everyone). You can try and go gank newbies or bounty hunt the gankers (it's a lot of waiting and frustration due to multiple game bugs, starting with the refuel / repair that's either not refuelling, or not reparing, or both...) but that's not really "content" yet.
That's it. You are trying to sell us a glorified, buggered Garry's Mod as the new BDSSE whereas most of us have played NMS, ED, X-series and others. Expect less patient answers.

Yes because at least there is some official communication about it.

The bit you initially got excited about is very clearly the starry-eyed fever dreams of a junior dev on Spectrum, representing their own personal desires for the franchise, not any plans that are currently being enacted. The official communication to date has either proved wrong when it was positive (as Viajero pointed out), or correct when it was negative. So, ummm... woo?

The CMs on Spectrum chat were keen to pour water on those very same dreams a few days later:

The last official word from CIG (March 2019) was that their next step towards VR support would be Vulkan support. They do not currently have Vulkan support. (Hell, they also do not seemingly have the game stability or performance to support giant crewed Idris capital ships [which they also don’t have yet] at 2x90fps, but that’s a challenge for after Vulkan eh ;))

Prior to that a senior dev (Ben Parry, ex of this parish) put it in these terms: 'Do not hold your breath for this' (March 2017).

The rule of thumb with all grand Star Citizen claims is: Believe it when they’ve actually released the game ;)

In the meantime enjoy this hacked VorpX experience...

As a VR-head I see nothing exciting, or indeed communicative, about either the recent wishful dreamcrafting or the 'not soon' non-answers. I’m perplexed as to why you do.

(Unless you’ve mistaken it all for a declaration of actual VR dev being undertaken. In which case, some miscommunication seems to have occurred... ;))

I know that SC community often try to insult ED but I though that this community had a wider point of view. In the end you demonstrated to me that you simply hate everything about SC and it seems a bit excessive to me. I don’t understand why some of you thinks that ridiculing me would bring more facts to your arguments. I think my mistake in the end was to believe that this community is different but you have the same extremism..

I certainly don't hate SC...assigning such a negative emotion to an inanimate thing like a video game seems a bit extreme somehow. Like I said, I play it often enough and mostly enjoy my time when I do. What I don't do is dreamcraft about what it will ever amount to. I'm quite willing to wait and see but for some considerable time now, it's not been looking too promising.

Just thought of this:
(...) I though that this community had a wider point of view.
Let's turn this around shall we.
Since we were talking about surface vehicles, I do have a Nox in SC. I'm weak i know, i like the look of this thing, reminds me of Akira or something. Anyway, tell me, what kind of gameplay is there, or game loop i can complete using my Nox ? and by that i mean in game mechanics, not meta like fooling around with the broken physics. Please enlighten me.

I don’t think his statement was directed at you or surefoot 😉
