Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The following cards have been added to the Roadmap under the Alpha 3.11 Column:
  • Ground Cover Buoyancy | Seaweeds and other ground cover elements on water will simulate buoyancy, floating and reacting realistically to water waves to further enhance the visuals of water on planets.

You know - that's exactly what I want in the BDSSE.

Maybe CI-G can invent a seaweed harvesting gun and refinery kiosk, and I can carve out an empire in the untapped seaweed market. Maybe I can visit some of those posh bars and offer up seaweed-wrapped ranta dung treats to the bartenders!

I've read your source. CR was talking about SQ42 in this context, not SC.
No, read it again. No such division of “the development” is made. The context is one of completing SC, and Chris suggests that even without continuous backer income, SC can be completed by selling SQ42 (and SQ42 does not need to be changed because they already have sufficient funds to complete it).

Monthly income → scope.
No monthly income → complete SQ42 → other source for monthly income → scope.

Either way, there is no overall plan and it's all decided month to month based on income. It's all lies, of course, but that's still what he says. Also, really, do you believe even for a second that Chris would compromise on his movie over slashing and burning the annoying MP game he accidentally promised to create? Really?

You don't understand. This buoyancy tech will revolutionize the gaming industry. Once the seaweed and trash tech is implemented, then they can add in various assets to litter the land and seascapes. Then, CI follows up with the all new Trash Control Specialist tech whereby NPCs, powered by the amazing bartender AI, actually go and collect the trash. The trash is returned to a proper receptacle, where new Trash Collection NPCs pick up that receptacle and deliver it to a waste treatment facility. The player can then pick up the processed trash and go sell it on a moon for vast amounts of credits. Trash for money! Money for trash! Just think about all the possibilities! Space traders rejoice!

Also, nice "Weapon Zeroing" slated for 3.12 as it currently sits in polishing.

Yes, I don't decide what you have to think. Everyone is free to take into account my arguments or not. I was a little joking with my "both way", since the beginning I know not one person will change his mind here with my arguments and I don't post here to convince you. I post mainly to give the lurkers and newcomers a little different voice in the thread and give you some good news about the alpha. The bad news are quickly forwarded here, it's alas not the case for the good news...
New dust effect isn't really positive when it took $400 MUSD to get to that in a buggy pre-alpha demo that is simultaneously claimed to be released and fun game.

I recall numerous posters talking smack about ED being a mile wide and an inch deep and I've seen nothing but an inch wide and inch deep from SC. And ED has spent at absolute most 1/4 the money SC has and the difference in stability and game-play loops and actually working significant updates, couldn't be more striking.

An opinion post won't change my mind. And though my mind would be changed with a significant release of gameplay content that wasn't crashy and did not require 30 minutes of travel just to get to my ship (hello, ED has 'ship recall' function on planet surface so ship comes to me), then I might revisit my overall opinion of the game, but certainly not the opinion that it has been a totally mismanaged and over-spent cluster bordering on scam from the get-go.

So your target is maybe misplaced... some new effect like heat re-entry that is half-implemented doesn't make SC 'fun', it is just pretty looking frosting covering up a cow patty. The cow patty has to change and even then there is a big stink surrounding it that needs to be clearly acknowledged.

I don't think CR was talking about SQ42.

Chris Roberts said:

First of all, we always have a decent amount of money in reserve, so if all support would collapse, we would not suddenly be incapacitated. We plan the scope of the development based on what arrives monthly by the people to support. I’m not worried, because even if no money came in, we would have sufficient funds to complete Squadron 42. The revenue from this could in-turn be used for the completion of Star Citizen.

CR refered to scope in the sentence. SQ42 scope is already defined by the story and previous mentions of scope had always been linked to SC.

Things aren't looking too good.

Unless I misread this, it means (among many other things) that the Stanton system will not be finished in 3.11, or 3.12, or 3.13, but 3.14 at the earliest (Q2 2021) and that is assuming no further delays or content pushbacks.

They want to release Orison and Crusader over the Q1/Q2 patches next year. Those patches should be 3.13 and 3.14, IF 3.11 and 3.12 actually make it in the game this year.
I think that is what I understood and said, yes. Stanton will not be finished at the earliest until Q2.

No, read it again. No such division of “the development” is made.
I've read it again and the short scope is only clear about SQ42.
And by just following the game it's clear the scope is not month-to-month. Building blocks takes more than one year, planet tech v4 takes almost 2 years, Vulkan is wip since 2 years, etc. Nothing in SC has been made in less than 3 months. So the CR interview perhaps can be understand in several ways, but the fact is the development of SC is not a month-to-month scope.

Nothing about the scope of SQ42 is even mentioned. SQ42 is only brought up as a back-up strategy for keeping the income going should the backers suddenly stop being suckers. The income still dictates the scope, irrespective of the source.

And by just following the game it's clear the scope is not month-to-month
True. It's more like day-to-day since things appear and disappear from the “planning” with no rhyme or reason. :D

but the fact is the development of SC is not a month-to-month scope.
That is not a fact, and it is directly contradicted by the man himself.

Updated ship targeting. It's early days. They'll figure it out.

Latest PTU patch. Still wave 1 (on July 24th!)

Increased rotational jerk for all ships.

Supposed to be much better. Don't think I'm trying it out today. Maybe tomorrow.
