Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

When you start to build a small house, and you are given the budget to build a skyscraper, having to destroy your not finished small house to build your skyscraper is not what I call a failure.

Except, if we are continuing that analogy, CIG sold backers a skyscraper, backers gave CIG money for that scyscraper, and then CIG said, on wait, we are now building a space station... but we don't know if we can do that, but give us more money anyway. No, you can't have your skyscraper. Pony up and wait for the space station.

CIG was building a small house till 2014/2015.

Sorry, but i'm calling cow manure on that analogy.

From the start it was being pitched as the best damn space sim ever. Go read back at the initial statements, go watch the videos, go listen to the backers at that time getting all excited about it. How in just 2-3 years and a few million dollars they were going to get this amazing space game, the space game to beat all previous space games.

That is a far cry from your "small house" analogy and just a blatant attempt to rewrite history on your part.

That sort of revisionist history might go down well on the reddit sub, but here you are going to get called out for it.

They wanted to build two games from the start. SQ42 (house budget is good enough I guess, he must have blown it with celebrity mocap in one go I guess) and SC - a MMO in living universe (requires skyscraper budget)
Those two games use the same engine and they have a lot in common. SQ42 is more like the big apartment that occupies the top of the building. It uses the same fundations, the same electrical power, water system, etc.

But they aren't built yet. Even after hiring (allegedly) 100s of ppl.
Yes. It takes time (too much for some). And those who just wanted the small house were spoilt.

Except, if we are continuing that analogy, CIG sold backers a skyscraper, backers gave CIG money for that scyscraper, and then CIG said, on wait, we are now building a space station... but we don't know if we can do that, but give us more money anyway. Backers have voted for the space station you talk about in 2014 (don't remember the exact date), it doesn't come out of nowhere. And since the announce of the space station, all backers gave money for this space station, not the skyscraper.

The initial statements had no 64bits positioning, no one giant map, no ground vehicles, no hold for ground vehicles in ships, no explorable planets, no landing where you want on planets, had loading screens, etc. If the initial pitch was "best damn space sim ever" the new pitch since 2014/2015 is still "best damn space sim ever" but with waaaay more elements than the initial one.

CIG was building a small house till 2014/2015. Then the budget skyrocketed and CIG decided to build a skyscraper since then.

But they weren't building a small game. It was going to be the BDSSE all the way back in 2014, it was going to contain a massive amount of stretch goals and complex features not seen in MMOs before, it was going to challenge dedicated shooters, it was going to have NPCs indistinguishable from players with elaborate routines, it was going to consist of over 100 systems with hugely elaborate cities and homeworlds and alien races and languages and ....

The way you talk of the pre-2016 feature set makes it sound like it was going to be this small, reasonably simplistic game, which was never the case.

And they're climbing the space elevator while simultanueously building it and the station. But, as the priority is apparently on the apartment (with already VIP guests onboard), the space elevator is clearly understaffed. Efficient.

Because Chris hadn't say yes to every loony questions yet.

Yes, they are installing the garden of the apartment while the windows are still missing on all floors below and the electrical engineer has not completed the electrical connections, only cold water is available, etc.

Holy hell. There was no "new pitch"

They simply kept adding stuff to keep the money rolling in, they added explorable planets because every other modern space game had them and SC was going to look way behind the times without them.

Not only that, it was also meant to save PC game from an inevitable death. Broke 2 ribs laughing back then, thinking "good ol' Chris, still the same!".

Attention Recruits,

What you are about to read is the latest information on the continuing development of Squadron 42 (SCI des: SQ42).

As a result of our latest intel reports, we've learned about work towards creating the Xi'an race, responsive music to dynamic situations, and further work on the Vanduul combat AI and animation.

The information contained in this communication is extremely sensitive and it is of paramount importance that it does not fall into the wrong hands. Purge all records after reading.

UEE Naval High Command

I was super secure and purged all records before reading as there appeared to be no mention of beta.

Dear sir, you essentially admitted that Christopher failed to deliver what he promised.

If small house is fast and cheap to build, where is it? Christopher said himself that a good game takes 2-3 years to make, that would be 2012, 2013 and 2014. The development started in 2012, according to Christopher. Sure you don't think he is a liar?

If he did what he promised and actually released a small house, as you call it, before 2015, I'd have no objections.
The money were already spent on producing that "small house", so where is it?
Christopher lied, he did not made the game he promised in the time he promised, there was no "small house" developed at all. This is a failure. There are no excuses.

By the way, I know why you have switched to house-building-analogy.

Because you, dear sir, fail to deliver sound arguments related to the game development.

Or, as it happens with SC and SQ, non-development.

In the game development one doesn't need to scrap something to make something bigger.

And you have to destroy your small house because its foundations will never hold up with a skyscraper.

So one finishes the small house, then builds the sky scraper with what you learnt from building the small house and as a bonus the people who gave you the budget for have somewhere to live as that is what they paid you for, as it was the plan for a small house that got them to fund you in the first place.

Also by 2013 the scope was already full on the crowd funding stretch goals including FPS on planets
100 star systems VR in Hanger modules Enhanced boarding options: melee combat, heavy weapons, zero gravity simulation, suit HUD options and EVA combat. As well as Lead a damage control team to fight fires and repair key systems during battle, control internal bulkheads to slow boarders and man a number of consoles, like navigation and engineering,

Besides the really flawed, pointless analogy (there's only a big hole for the foundations at the moment, and they are still working on those, and redoing them over and over again, by the way + a cardboard model of what the building would look like, complete with all the paint and wallpapers).. They had expanded the KS goals by 2013. Please dont go into history revisionism.
