Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Oo, it’s macho Ant, throwing words around like release 💪

The proof is in the pudding sweetness. For the $3000 capital ship with the 80 crew compliment… even more so ;)

And I’m sure you care about those type of deliveries. Because you wouldn’t want the game to be funded by ripping off mugs via a long succession of barely plausible but highly detailed lies, now would you? That would be immoral. And could lead to finger pointing.

(PS, it’s actually €50 for the ship interior tour currently. It’s been a while you see…)

(PPS, FDev only said 'not in EDO' regarding ship interiors, so you’ve made a factual booboo there I’m afraid. But guess it means the race is still on for release eh? ;))

Here is an example of what Fleet Carrier

60$ for Elite base game
60$ for Horizon
40$ for Odyssey

Still don't have Planets, Ship Interiors, Eva etc - will probably be another 80-120$ - if they even ever do it.
Silly of you to pay $60 for Horizons when it was $45 for basegame owners.

Meanwhile, planets were made accessible in Horizons. More in Odyssey.

As to extra costs: us LEP owners backed early for future benefit.

As to games with outstanding/missing features, I too look forward to Star Citizen adding: native VR support, a fully-working flight model, server meshing (not 50-player capped servers), player/ship refueling/repair/healing, stable physics, faction warfare, faction reputation, a few dozen star systems to explore, aliens to battle/research/trade, aliens structures to explore, scientific mysteries, lore-filled wrecks and bases, dynamic economy, crafting, equipment modification, guild mechanics, functional tutorials, farming, functional NPCs with AI, black holes, orbital mechanics, fleet carriers, sharable discoveries, and full MMO persistence.

But tbh I don't understand content development.

Again, you should say it to ED players. You don't see question like "No VR plans for EDO, fine... but what about the future of ED?" in SC, we at least know what is planned and what CIG is working atm.
At least CIG is trying and deliver. Since 2 years, CIG is talking about volumetric clouds and they are here now. Same for more multicrew gameplay with radar and missile operator mode coming. What FDEV say about the future of EDO ? Do you have one official good news ?

Reading ED players asking for roadmap like SC, showing to others how the telemetry page of SC works, talking how Cobra need Vulkan for the game on the next gen console, saying that SC is proof that interiors are doable but hard to do... you should tell them that all they need to know about SC is here, the poor guys don't know how SC is crap and as no future.

So, we're agreed! ED bad. SC bad. Marmite is still debatable.

But not having VR on foot, not having game on New Gen console - why even port to Old gen?

Than what? No plans, no Road Maps, no confirmation if even Thargoids are comming to Odyssey.
Everyone will jump to Star Citizen in few years. Which has Full VR support, which has Planets, which has Ship Interiors - massive variety of guns, suits, vechiles ( not just 1 SRV lol), and ship with actual Crew spots - not the fake one we have in Elite, and hopefully some more engaging game play.

Here is an example of what Fleet Carrier should have looked like in Elite.
Not that what we got with a bunch of menues after a 6 month of delays.

The only good thing right now about Elite is 1:1 Galaxy size, it give players the immersion of beeing in Space, which SC doesn't.
They released a DLC called Odyssey - and with that name did they do anything for Explorers? Nada, nothing, apart from removing geological sites and adding few generic plants with a useless hand hold scanner.

If they ever add Ship Interiors to the Elite - it will be just as half baked, as most of other things they added to the game.

It's been 7 years - and what state their second paid addition to the game? Mostly Negative - If Elite had a promising future 5-6 years ago, well we are in that future now and it not looking promising anymore at all.
Cancelled Dev stream, broken promisses made just a week prior. Releasing a bugged Update 5, and than in this week Schedual - ignoring their existance as if everything is great. At this point you have to ask them, who are they doing this streams for? Definately not the playerbase that is in aproar right now. Not even a Road Map this week.

I am very very dissapointed with Elite today.

The wonderful thing about ED is that its actually released. We can sit here all day long and criticize it. We can also bemoan the fact that fleet carriers don't have interiors. But we can also say what we like about ED as well. Despite the disappointment of Odyssey for some the rest of the game is still there, that hasn't changed, and people have enjoyed that for many years.

The fun thing about SC is that while it can be praised for the good stuff it has, and how we can talk about how the Idris (not actually in-game yet except when CIG insert it) is what FD should have been for fleet carriers, you can't criticize it for what its lacking because ITS ALPHA!

ED doesn't have ship interiors yet! - BAD!

SC doesn't have more than one system yet! - ITS ALPHA!

Its always the same.

Both games have been in development for almost the same amount of time (SC a bit longer). SC has a way higher budget and way more employees. And yet SC gets excused for everything it is missing while ED gets panned for what it is missing.

Perhaps FD should just slap an alpha label on everything, call everything Tier 0, and people can then start defending ED for what is wrong with it.

Oh yes, it's soooooooooooooooo wonderful that it's released, that they now will spend months on releasing it to Console, instead of adding new content, and fixing bugs.
It's sooooooo wonderful that it release because now they are on a tight schedual, no longer abel to be creative, no longer can add things just because they are pretty, or cool or add immersion to the game. No everything now has a money value attached to it.
What was Arf argument for not doing Ship Interiors? Oh right, there is no gameplay in it.
Do you realise that all Stations in Elite Dangerous are the same? Whether they belong to Empire, or Federation, or Alliance - there is no divercity at all. Why? Because they don't have time to do it, they need to port it to Console, they need to think about next DLC.

Yeah Releasing was a blessing for Elite Dangerous. 7 years out of 10, and we are still missing Planets, Ship Interiors or a 2nd SRV.

Half-baked - cause no time any longer to be creating, cause they released.

Exactly my point. Its released and we can criticize it.

Thanks for making my point ;)

Delusion stronk with this one.

Only i want Ship Interiros, instead of writing post about them.
I want PvP to actually be fun like in EvE online, with capturing Systems and Ouposts, and not just a boring dog fight for 7 years.
I want Thargoids to actually Invade Systems, and not just read about it on Galnet. Where is my fight for the Station vs Thargoids waves?

Can't do it, don't have time cause they are released.

That's the curse of released games, it's 10 times harder to add content once the game is released, cause you no longer have time or money to be creative.

Doesn't sound like ship interiors are coming any time soon in ED, if at all, so forget about that.

Fun PvP? Well, some people think PvP in ED is fun, but sounds like you are talking about strategic PvP rather than the combat right? Nah, forget about that. FD tried it with Powerplay, which turned out to be hot garbage. Don't expect anything like this in SC either, at least within the next decade or two.

Thargoids invading systems. I'm of mixed thoughts here. I think FD should either avoid it (after all, who wants their systems messed up by the hand of FD while other player systems don't get hit?) or go all in allowing the Thargoids to run rampant... but in order for FD to do that, they would also have to add a whole load of other stuff, allowing humanity to fight back, perhaps go after the Thargoid systems, to expand to new systems away from the Thargoids.... and that's never going to happen.

But its not because the game is released, its more just not what FD are doing.

And to follow your argument, (which i disagree with) then games are best never released until completed. That's just not realistic these days for any game with a large scope.

But overall, i think we've done enough critiquing of ED in this thread, and there is a whole form for that. This is the thread for critiquing Star Citizen. Comparisons are useful, but not if we are no longer discussing SC and instead discussing ED, what it should or shouldn't have.

So, to bring it back to SC, out of your 3 points, SC has one of those on offer. It may only ever have 1 of those that you want.

As you noted, EvE (which is a different type of game entirely) at least has the territorial gameplay and the ability to take over systems (although no aliens and ship interiors are not a thing).

I'm not aware of any game which would give you what you want.

And where there's hope, there's money. Better keep the hope alive and never release anything else than tier-0 alpha. QED CIG's business model.
SHip Interiors, Eva, Planets, Missions, Stations Interiros, a Bunch of Ships and vehicles and Guns and Armors, Space Combat, Ground Combat - looks good.
