Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Isn't there a word for entrepreneurs that make bogus claims in order to gain funding from investors?

Something for the authorities to look into perhaps.
There is.

Sadly, nearly all the money raised to "make" Star Citizen wasn't gained from investors, but "crowd-sourced." That's a huge legal grey area right now. They're not quite consumers, and they're not quite investors either. And I would be greatly surprised if Calder's didn't include sufficient safeguards for their actual investment against CIG's inevitable, though delayed, implosion.

@Mole HD dear kind unbiased sir, answer me this - Does Star Citizen require a good solid internet connection to play reliably (relatively-speaking), even when other players are not around? I feel like I read somewhere that NPC movements are generated server-side. Space Engineers is like this, where a network connection hiccup can have disastrous effects. Contrast this to ED, where my Internet can go down for like 5 minutes before I even notice, as long as I'm alone in my own instance.

It does. If your internet drops for a little bit, you get disconnected from the server.

You will then spawn in your hab and whatever ship you were in needs to be reclaimed. If you were mining or running cargo, you lose it all.

I've been having intermittent internet issues and run into this.

Every once in a while, i'll spawn back in my ship, but that is rare.

Thanks. That would be a game-wrecker for me. Someday I hope to have stable internet, but that's not today. At least in Space Engineers I can compensate for bad internet. For example, I have a "dead man's switch" that turns on the braking thrusters if I don't tap a certain key every 5 minutes, otherwise my ship might keep flying without me and add a new crater to the world I'm flying over (been there, done that).

ugh, probably gonna play tonight in PTU and not looking forward to redoing all the keybinds.
Just copy them over from the live folder...and add the new ones. There isn't that many to add apart from the power management ones. I already had them set up anyway

LOL, the latest PTU patch made it so you can't change joystick binds. joystick doesnt show up on the config menu.
It did for me in the previous patch...I had to reverse my throttle input...again. Let's hope it's just a minor case of forgetfulness from Ci¬G, I haven't finished downloading the latest PTU build yet to test it :cautious:

Edit: Aye...well done Ci¬G, no stick bindings :D

So, he who shall not be named has started a rumour that CR has lost control of CIG. That someone else is now in control and that it will be announced in the next quarter (after Citizen con?).

Considering the source, i'm not going to attach any credence to the rumour.

However, if true, this could be the best news for SC/SQ42 in a long time. It could mean someone will be in charge who knows how to get an MVP release done. And with CR out of the picture, some of my unwillingness to give CIG money would go out of the way, as long as it was a proper change in management, basically a Freelancer 2, with CR getting "special thanks" in the credits.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but it might tie in with other recent events, such as CR's announced move to England to help finish SQ42 in 2022. He may have been given instructions to go do that and get out of the way of SC's development. Basically orders to get SQ42 shipped by a certain deadline.

In unrelated news, and for fans of Doom Patrol, you might be interested in hearing Chris and Sandi's daughter, Skye, has an important role in Doom Patrol season 4. At least if CR is England he won't be around to interfere with that!

I've been thinking about getting Star Citizen. I went on the SC Forums, but was told that you have to pay to join in. I then went on Reddit to get to know some 'Citizens', only to be greeted, upon posting with this message: 'YOUR POST MUST CONTAIN POST FLAIR'. Then I was prompted (felt like frog marched) to link the post to my 'Twitter' account. I declined. The idea of going there [Twitter], just to have someone waiting in the aisles for you to put a foot wrong in their eyes and banish your life and future prospects just so they can do a virtuous 'High Five', just fills me with nausea.

So I came here instead, to say, 'Hi Citizens'.

If you see someone flying a ship badly, just know... I've got your back.

Yeah, you can't post on CIG's forums unless you give CIG money first.

Regarding reddit flairs, yeah, some subs just like you to flair your threads. But not much point posting on the reddit sub unless you first say 10 Hail Roberts, upload a picture of a sunset or your ship, and tell everyone how much you've spent. And for heaven's sake, don't say anything critical or you'll be called a troll and hater.

So, here's as good a place as any to discuss SC, as long as you don't start saying stupid stuff like "never been done before", making excuses for every bug in SC, making predictions of how wonderful everything is going to be in the next patch or two, or start fawning over CIG.

Mole is our resident middle of the road guy, you can pretty much trust whatever he says to be a fairly unbiased take on things.

We have a lot of skeptics like myself here, and we will tell you, at length, in great detail, what we think is wrong with the project, if you give us the opportunity :D

And we have one or two who are at the other end of the scale, who will tell you that any problems you have are your fault and anyway, its your fault for not installing it on a SSD (even if you have). :p

welcome citizen commander!

you have found the perfect place to have your intelligence questioned for playing SC, be told you are supporting a criminal organization if you buy into SC, and told that "fun" doesn't matter when you play video games!

enjoy your stay!

Don't forget being told to buy an Idris!

You haven't bought an Idris yet by the way! Not good enough! CIG needs your money! Believe in the dream!
