Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Can't believe i missed this.

I thought Joshua steered clear of critiquing Star Citizen, but turns out he made it his worst MMO of 2020.

Oh well, maybe it will do better in 2021 :p

He can do what he likes man. Where do I say otherwise?

I'm just keeping tabs on some of the 'refugees' because the stories they tell are a bit more varied than the YTer crowd. And I suspect their 6 month arcs will be interesting ;). (Some will continue to love SC. Some will sour. And various will spend silly money in the process ;))

I'm definitely not saying they should play EDO if they don't like it. Or not play SC. I'm just observing ¯\(ツ)/¯

I always find it interesting how people get to the 'I spent $500 on SC and I wish I hadn't' stage. I suspect checking back on some of these guys down the line will be intriguing on that front is all.

I'll let you know the results in 6 months. Although you'll have to join my cult first ;)
Way too many assumptions, did you forget your homework again? ;)

Looking back over the last few pages...I discovered I'm one of those special type of #####'s. I have pixel spaceships, a handful of inordinately expensive bass guitars I haven't even tuned since my old band discovered real life and turned capitalist, loud motorbikes, demonic cows and cool tractors.

Then again, I'm a product of vastly different times... :)

Ah, you think CIG will change the habit of a lifetime and not pimp new exciting additions at Citcon? (Including some for $$$). Interesting.

And you don't have an issue with the project leads making excitable claims for 2020 features, and then failing to deliver on almost every count? Also interesting.

Honestly it's like the formats and venues change, but some things just stay the same...
Hey but we have clouds now!

The "fun" part is totally subjective and fine obviously. The part that grinds my ears is the complete normalisation and trivialisation that 5 more years for "at least a beta" (nevermind release) is ok, and that it will even be ok if it does not release at all. And that after 350+ millions have been payed by backers for very specific committed content and at that point that would have probably been 15+ years of development and 600+ millions... It just boggles the mind how a backer can just simply say all that is fine. Especially if it is an ED player. Makes ED complaints look like silly spoiled rich kids´.

You can swap 'Star Citizen' with 'playing guitar' and you get the same results. Some will start and like it, some will give up after a few months, and some will give up in six months after spending €10,000 on custom build axes, hand-wired tube amps and a laser show for in their basement.

Some people just spend their money frivolously.

"But CIG actively encourages that behaviour with false promises and tall stories!"

Sure. Now walk into your local Guitar Center and say:"Hi, I am a boomer looking to buy my first guitar!" and see what happens.

It's capitalism, baby! :)

Catching up with the thread so not sure if this has already been pointed out already but surely you can see the dramatic difference between selling a guitar or custom build axe that are actually there, and selling a guitar or custom build axe that are not only not actually there but that you are repeatedly told that they will come at certain dates, and asked for even more money, only for those not to come at all for 9+ years and counting.

People deciding whatever with their own money is obviously fine in principle, I agree with you, but only up to a point. It is generally for situations like these, for example, where the consumer may be misled and abused by the seller, especially after so many years without delivery, that regulators and consumer protection offices are made for and should step in, even if just to take a look. Suspect this is still small fry for them though.

Rewrite your demonstration replacing CIG by Virgin Galactic selling hundreds of tickets for space for almost a decade.
Scam or not ? And their customers are whales or not ?

Did they sell future orbit flights to deliver buggy low altitude balloon trip in the most intricately decorated balloon? :) The whales they are not, being a whale is about the place in the distribution of spending and the shape of the distribution itself.

What you call the low altitude balloon is not the final product but the work in progress you can visit. The same for Virgin when a customer visit the research site.

I had to look those up (Schecter player here). Does Gibson add those to justify some of their Legatus package price range guitars?
I've owned a couple of Schecters, solid guitars.

The whole Gibson story since the 90s has been CIG-esque in places. Features being added to core lines that nobody asked for, dubious business practices, numerous serious QC problems and... well... things like these monstrosities:

Well, we would need to enter a political debate here, in which I may even agree with you ;) But I think the point is clear that the fact someone is free to spend as much as it wants on the silliest of things does not mean there can not be misrepresentation and abuse by the seller. Hugely so maybe in the case of CIG.
