Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Derek always struck me as the type suggesting there was no way he, or those at CIG could make the game they promised in the timeframe they initially said. But has he ever updated that to be more realizing with the amount of money CIG has gone through, and the time its taken, that maybe he could have finished the game 2 years ago? They've gone past the ludicrous estimates of what seemed possible, no?
His initial messaging was very much along those lines. However, he seems to have lost a lot of interest in SC. I think he has realised that it will keep stumbling along with CRobber at the helm and every time he posted a critical piece about it, the whales spite pledged.

Hmm, so Zyloh claims there'll be no faux demo builds this year, just pure WIP...

Zyloh-CIG said:
I don't want to spoil the show, but I will say that a big focus for this year's broadcast is to spotlight existing tools, features, frameworks, and development that is actively being worked on already. Nothing is being built just for a demo. This is tech and content that was already in progress and we want to show it to you.

With that said, I still think it's mind blowing stuff. You might disagree. But, watch this Saturday and we'll compare notes. ;)

I guess deadlines had to bite at some point

(Either that or they just figured out they could show incremental Pyro work every year ;))

Witkin spouts lies just opening his mouth.

Felix there with the relevant context…

And some interesting snark from a long-term fan…

And fair enough, there’s definitely form ;). But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this Citcon is more 'slimline'.

Sure the big ship will probably just be a concept. And Pyro will take a while to tumble into their sketchy networking scheme. But I reckon they’ll pitch lower, and deliver a higher percentage of 'stuff', for 2022. Because it feels like there’s a pinch coming. Get those dual-use animals out the door... (SQ42 doubtless has a space-cow wrangling scene... and a bit where Old Man burns yeti limbs to stay warm...). Sell some habitation interiors why don't you. Assets are always good.

Get some stuff out the door. And make sure the door kinda works. Because launch time is getting closer... Papa Calder wants some cash...

From Spectrum

Don’t know nor care if I’m in the majority, but watching the game develop is almost as fun for me as playing. I don’t get a lot of ingame hours anymore, but I’m glad there’s at least one game focused on achieving an insane vision. Even if it isn’t finished for years to come.

You're like the ultimate customer, willing to pay whatever, for nothing in return (other than marketing fluff)

Watching the development of the game is the game.

And

The point of my post is, an "alpha" is never intended to be playable, let alone as a "main game" where people can progress through and have a solid overall experience.

I see too much whining from players that seem to think making it more "playable" now is the right thing to do... and it's just not. If it was possible, CIG would do it. The only way they can do it is divert resources from moving forward and create a ton of wasted work that they'll have to scrap later, and ultimately things get delayed even more.

Interesting position, because CIG certainly want people to play it and advertise it as playable.

I mean, its right there. A "Play now" button. Start your adventure and play now.

Because that's what every gamer logged in the verse do...
Quoting one guy more interested in watching the development is just quoting one guy... more interested in watching the development. I also love watching the development but it comes after my play sessions in the game. You can quote me if you want.

FUD! You're not meant to be playing the game. You're meant to be testing it! You obviously don't understand alpha development.

If CiG had any semblance of honesty in them, they'd drop the "alpha" pretence and admit that what you have now is what you'll ever get.
Well, not in its entirety, there will be patches and DLCs, as has been the case for 7 years already.

But that would mean admitting they're on par with Derek Smart & his Battlecruiser 3000AD, so not gonna happen.

Starry eyed new player and defenders of the faith vs crusty old backers

It will attract new players with different expectations - likely even more reasonable expectations - if they start to deliver more and more frequently. Just like ED - e.g. I never cared for the DD. I bought in at what it was and enjoyed it. Until I was old and crusty and they unleashed engineers upon us. And newer players still were OK with that.
It's just how audiences shift over time.
