Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Look, I roll 2d20s and hit your ship for 18 damage total. Your shields buckle slightly but hold steady. You clear your throat, the bridge crew eagerly awaiting a command.

Is this what you want thread?!? Is it?!?

Why can't we all just be happy this holiday season?!?!

drinks a gallon of Old Pennsylvania Dutch eggnog before passing out

(Seriously though, Happy Holidays everyone)

Continue to wade my way through all the crap to get to the few nuggets of interesting stuff people post, its a bit like Facebook and Twitter, yeah i know...
Go and do something you like doing instead of wallowing in the mire that is the Star Citizen thread. I only come hear for the laughs. Some of you take this gaming lark way too seriously.

For the laughs? like a self proclaimed comedian who you quickly discover is just an angry feminist.

The problem is also a vast majority of people criticizing SC "forget" to explain to the public that SC is alpha and that alphas are not finished products
I think many critiques are precisely pointing out that this is a 9+ year alpha with no release in sight. The point is precisely that such a long alpha can indicate a mismanaged and failed product.

Yeah you gotta remember that no matter who you are or what your opinion on Star Citizen is, you're a fellow human being, a space gamer (I mean ew, but hey I'm here too so heck yea space games) and ultimately our silly bickering means nothing. I love all y'all.

Stay safe out there, get vaccinated, hug someone (thats also vaccinated), have a few drinks and open a couple presents. Or eat Chick-Fil-A alone in your car Christmas eve, as is my tradition.

Baylies, gallons of Baylies

Could be, yeah. But so far given the record funding year ever since 2012 (assuming we believe those figures) I would say that that hypothetical scenario seems to be exactly that, somewhat hypothetical and probably still quite far in the future. Or at the very least 10 years do not seem to have been enough for this poor guy. Although unfortunately I would wager that SC experience (mostly based on product misrepresentation) is not too uncommon. Short of regulators or consumer protection agencies stepping in, actual in depth reviews and scores, for good or for worst, imo would still be as of today one of the best ways to complete a more accurate and a bit more independent view of what SC has to offer (for the price asked) to the market, and/or to hopefully accelerate the “end game” here, whatever that may be.
I can see your point, but based on what criteria should a media outlet make an exception for Star Citizen? So far the general stance has been 'we wont review unless a studio says its ready for review. When they don't that itself sends a strong signal." The fact that, in this case, that signal may not be that strong for whatever reason is not really strong enough a reason to make an exception.

Mind you, I'd be fine if there would be a clear criterion such as:"After going EA and asking money, a studio has a maximum of [x] months/years to give us a release version or we'll review whatever version is the latest on that deadline. I'd actually be in favor of it. But while SC is irritating, you don't want to create a situation where magazines can publicly crush a 'legit' game like Baldurs Gate III (in EA for over a year now) or Factorio (EA for countless years before it released) based on nothing but a whim or feeling.

I mean, really, all CIG needs to do is release two games that I can play. If they are great, I'll say they are great. It's really what both sides of the argument are waiting for.

We are really just posting about Schrödinger's Citizen until that point.

At least I've had a lot of good laughs for the low price of $45.

Edit: and I've talked (probably too much) about my time with SC. I try to play every major patch and most of the time I get frustrated with performance issues or server crashes to spend more than a few hours flying around. (yes, it's installed on an SSD lol)

This is the thing entirely. As it is now, it's a scam. They are touting things that they havent and probably wont ever deliver on. Fine for those who are happy to play in the mud, as it is now...not so fine for those who want some sort of immersive gameplay. All of that is on the backs of pledgers, based on words and as far as can be seen, potential lies. They can add stuff to their roadmap, promise big ships, without doing anything and still ask for pledges, and that's on them. But the second they release it, whatever its state is, good bad or ugly, the onus is on the buyer. You buy it and it doesn't run, that's on you.

Of course you can. You don't have to give CIG any more money at all.

They do need more money though. Game is still years away from being in a releasable state despite having taken in around half a billion dollars. CIG do need more money. If not your money, then someone else's.

Are you going to rely on others providing the required money? Or will you do your part?

Answer the Call.

They may need more money but they don't deserve another cent. They have proven with the more money they get, the more stuff they remove from their roadmap. If they get no more money, and they need it, then either 2 things happen. They release it, as it is, and Im sure folks will buy it, even more-so, since it wont be a scam anymore. Or, they just go away and we'll hear CR whine how they didn't have enough resources. To that, I'd enjoy hearing that guy from Succession saying his most popular words.

My god. Page 2001. 12 SC threads. Obsession? Fun? Mix of both? Maybe. But this is just as hilarious or obsessive as that refund sub album full of quotes that some basement dwelling "doom! this game will be gone soon! 90 days tops" guy probably put together over a couple of years.
