Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Those are the box missions. You can buy cargo by the tonne (or whatever they call it) and you get pallets stacked up in your ship. They look different too
Ok, so when you buy cargo it just appears as a large box in your cargo hold.

Makes sense for a game with ship interiors, I guess. As long as you don't have to load and unload yourself.

So the difference there between ED and SC is the existence of interiors.

Ok, admit it, you haven't actually played it right? You're just saying what you want to believe.

There are indeed stealth mechanics. Cones of vision. Footstep noise. Weapon noise. Detection difference based on lighting. Ability to take cover and hide. Sure, its no Thief in terms of stealth, which remains perhaps the Gold standard for stealth mechanics in a game, but that was a very special game which focused entirely around the whole concept of stealth.
Yeah, pretty sure he said he hasn't bought it, but he did play EDH in recent years. SC is a new shiny thing, without being aware of any of the drawbacks long time players (not me) know about or experience.

The Drew Experience, I guess.

Who put a gun to their head and forced them to work for CIG? Oh, no one? Ok.

To be fair, things aren't always that simple. Young, inexperienced developers, just out of dev school, needing their first project, are usually willing to accept almost any work, and if CIG are offering a reasonable salary and are offering a job, and perhaps a senior title for someone who still doesn't need to shave, they're likely to accept.

Our bready sultan friend reached out to me and will not be replying to any posts for a month.

Apparently he didn't take Heather's mod message to remain on topic seriously.

Thank goodness for that, saved me typing up another screed tearing every sentence of his rambling nonsense to bits. The SC faithful are one thing and fairly easy to deal with...but that misguided nutter has played around 5 minutes of SC during a free-fly...if at all (yes..seriously) and from what I can gather from his posts, imagined the rest of it whilst watching YouTube videos of his god-like 'friend' playing Warframe.

He's an ED Xbox player...nothing wrong with that, since I started out playing ED with the Xbox GPP back in 2015...but that's why he has no access to EDO. All the rest of his nonsense about SC (and I'm fairly certain from reading his posts) is made up. He has a beef with ED on Xbox so he's decided to troll in here not counting on those of us who are SC backers and regular players being able to call him out. Put it this way...I've listened to enumerable SC newbies describe their initial experiences with Star Citizen over the years... both good and bad... nothing he describes fits in with anything I've ever heard from any one of them 🤷‍♂️

I hope they use their rest to actually play SC so they can contribute more meaningfully. Then again they never managed to make any sense about ED on the main forum so I think they'll be back unchanged. I guess we'll find out in a month :)

Edit: In theory they might actually enjoy it as those with friends in the game seem to like it more. Wonder what his god-like friend will make of it all 🤔

His god-like friend certainly wasn't playing SC, I can tell you that much :D

Numbers on a spreadsheet, which is done better by EvE, which was already out.

None of the things you have described has any actual effect on gameplay.

The environmental effects, and ship damage in SC however do.

But it was you who claimed trading was better in SC than in ED, and now you say trading is better in EVE than in ED, is that because trading isn't actually better in SC than ED but it is better in EVE than it is in ED so you can use EVE to attack ED? Of course this makes SC third place right? You realise how that's worse?

If he was a real FPS addict indeed these guys would never touch Star Marine and even less the PU. Given the AI in Half Life (the first game) was much superior to what is found in SC, we're back more than 20 years in that regard.

Yeah, i'd never recommend anyone buy EDO just for the combat zones or someone to buy SC for Star Marine. They might be decent enough in their own way, but if you want a good FPS shooter to be challenged in and provide a good experience, there are dozens on the market that do it better.

Star Citizen newbies generally don't talk about the fps experience outside of walking into and around inside of the ships, full stop. They talk about ships, ship interiors, multi-crew and physical turrets, space stations and the planet tech...and especially from those coming from a background in ED...the differences in the flight models good and bad...with or without having access to EDO. He hasn't experienced EDO at all...and judging purely from his posts about SC, he hasn't played that either so has nothing to make any comparison with, only what he imagines from watching a few YouTube videos.

It's a bit like most of you lot imagining my experiences of playing Star Citizen from watching random Twitch streamers

Twitch it!

I can take down most opponents in seconds with unenginered grade 2/3 weapons. I wouldn't call that "punishing". I've heard people running around with engineered grade 5 weapons that its way too easy (which brings us to the whole issue of engineering, both ship based and legs based, it adds power creep and separates the "haves" from the "have nots", still i hear High CZ have enforcers who are more of a challenge for those with engineered outfitting, but also this is just FD's typical "let's make things harder by turning them into bullet sponges" approach).
You are talking about NPC's, right?

Yeah, sure Doom, Titanfall 2, Half Life, FEAR, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Metro Exodus, Wolfenstein etc... are games "true FPS gamers" wouldn't touch with a stick.
Besides it is relatively easy to put challenging NPC's to FPS, even if said NPC's are dumb like bricks. Give them just inhuman reflexes. Like enemies in original Rainbow Six at high difficulty level.
