Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Maybe, just a speculation, because its the most hated game among ED players (plus some former SC players)?
Hated? You guys love talking about it, me included! Otherwise these SC threads wouldn't have 50k+ replies! (This isn't even counting the previous 10, lol) I think I can speak for the majority of people here when I say, we all LOVE Star Citizen! We just can NOT stop talking about it! Your passion is unreal, love you all.

You'd think folks here would applaud this recent pivot to opaque, non-communicative development, since all I ever see in these forums is apologia and even praise for FDEV's same behavior since forever.
I do not think anyone is complaining about a more realistic roadmap here. CIG has rarely delivered on it anyways. Plus CIG has most likely received undeserved millions of funding due to the hype and misrepresentation of the dates and content displayed in the roadmap only to then not deliver on it. So, few here would have regrets there.

It is the reason given by CIG, blaming backers for the decision to cut back, that is really one of the main issues and the one that has made the community flare up. The fact that the self professed "most transparent" dev company has felt obliged to do this is just hilarious and the cherry on the cake.

Well, can you list me some other dev companies that are similarily transparent?
That is the thing precisely, I do not think CIG has ever been "transparent".

I imagine what you call transparency is along the lines of all the 104TC, or videos or Cons or pillar talks and the like etc. I even fully understand enjoying the subscriber content and detailed explanations therein etc. But in reality CIG has always been exactly as transparent as they have wanted to be, which wasn´t really much when it comes to reasonably represent the important matters, the real state of progress in SC/SQ42 or the main mistakes or blockers they may have encountered. In fact CIG have pretty much hidden those issues and blockers and purporting things were closer or better than they really were. In fact I would argue that is worst than simply not being transparent, that is misinformation.

Other developers that I consider much better at professional communications and transparency would be for exemple UW with Subnautica or Harebrained with the Battletech Kickstarter and development etc. Plenty more where those came from.

so now more than ever was, where exactly did all the money come from?
I know exactly where it came from.

To make it clear, 2022 will be another record funding year. CIG are optimizing their fracking algorithms constantly, hence the price hikes. With each day, they have more and more data to plot those sweet demand curves, which they are climbing faster than Link on steroids. This is one of the reasons for the FOMO part - by withholding supply, they get more data points to plot the curves.

"TL;DR:
How a company treats their customers demonstrates the degree to which they value their customers. IMO, CIG no longer values their paying customers, and their recent actions certainly seem to support this perspective."

This is where the true misunderstanding of the backers comes in. It is as if they believe that CIG valued its backers beyond their money. They have never acted as if they valued them before, and in that sense, this latest PR dust up will ultimately have no impact. CIG has received nearly half a billion dollars over the past decade doing exactly the same thing over and over. This is their business model, and they have tapped into a niche that not only has, but will continue to support it.

Also just as a sidenote, I think it's rather funny that as far as I can tell, this is the largest, most replied to, and most viewed thread on the entire FDev Forums. Haha.
Funny you should say that. I just watched a video about Sandi Gardener. That post about the backer who's upset that the money he "donated" to CIG will be used to develop a game in which he has no interest. That got me wondering about all the other uses for his money that might upset him, and that got me into thinking about Sandi Gardener's wages. I wasn't sure if she was qualified for the position she found herself in, and so I went Googling to find out

Look at me waffling away. That's the sort of lack of concentration I have that gets me watching videos instead of searching for the stuff I intended to look for. But it was a fun video to watch. I was surprised when I saw the ending, which stated that the next video in the series would be about the Frankenstein's abomination of a gaming engine they're using

There's so much wrong with Star Citizen it takes more than one video to explain all their failings. The game is one in a million, and that's why it's provided us with a decade's worth of entertainment

All I can say to you is a big thank you. Without people like you providing Chris Roberts all this money we wouldn't be able to see how this all turns out. Here's to the last ten years of fun watching the development of this game and here's to the next ten years still to come

By the way, her degree is in marine biology

She has a degree in marine biology (or anything else) as much as I have a masters degree in astrophysics...if I discovered she actually managed to finish a high school education it would be a surprise, never mind attend university

CIG never valued those who already gave them money. They only care about those who will in the future give them money.
