Six ship sale events already this year are having a clear effect: whale backers showing they're more than happy to keep spending, openly celebrate being farmed for $$$, fund CIG's Pay2Skip (Pay2Win) revenue model, through buying ships for the Early Access in-alpha game of Star Citizen while the vast majority of the funding goes towards Squadron 42 development.Good news, march 22 total funding is already at 20% of may 21 funding. Record year incoming.
Oh yep we've been discussing it
Although there are lots of fun backer quotes in the comments if you fancy:
Imagine showing this video to someone from 5 years ago. If anyone had told me back then that Elite: Dangerous would be the one with stale development and being a broken mess while Star Citizen is giving the example, I would've immediately burst laughing. Yet here we are.
Star Citizen blows my mind every time I play it. Looking forward to what they do next.
I started Star Citizen back when it was literally a lone station and 3 missions. Then to now is a HUGE difference. Having played Esince it's launch, it was sort of the root of my frustration with the game... Star Citizen was having new things I've never seen before, and the scale of things plus immersion is so satisfying. Sure it's not as vast as Elite but there is so much more detail that it feels huge and lived in, whereas elite was mostly just empty.
Something just occurred to me, Frontier cancelled Elite on consoles and as we know Star Citizen is PC only, so they basically cancelled platforms where they had no competition. If they stick to PC only they won't make much money from Elite, I think. I hope I'm wrong, but Frontier is really making a huge mistake, because I don't think they can top Star Citizen. I don't know,it's just a thought.
They lost out to Star Citizen (and No Man's Sky) years ago. Starfield is coming this year... will probably be a buggy mess on release (Bethesda) but a year from now it'll probably be better than E: D has ever been. Of course Frontier is making a mistake - that's what they do.
I'm still looking for my first river in elite
You have ED with an entire galaxy that looks the same almost everywhere you go, and then you have Star Citizen with just 1 solar system that gives you variety & detail that Frontier completely left out. The roadmap between Star citizen & ED is like night and day. The coverage of ED these last 3 years has been cringeworthy since the content that Frontier keeps putting out is mundane & repetitive. But here we are, reluctant to put out Star Citizen content even though what they’re doing far exceeds Frontier’s capabilities in making a solid space sim. If you want a game that focus’s on observing everything from the air then leave Star Citizen alone.
rivers and roads are needed and they said they would add them long ago. it makes no sense for planets to lack them. this isn't EA or Fdev cheaping out on what is basic for all planets. any game that lacks this can't be taken seriously in this decade
Should Have Never Given Me Internet which failed to deliver on their promises of ship interiors, Eva, boarding, hell multicrew. And then they cancelled it all after selling arx saying....it was still coming for a yearsalute console players

Yes, a buggy alpha with less and less bugs quarter after quarterNope. The bug vids are just to demonstrate that SC is still a buggy alpha.

Anyone have the heart to tell him that Quantum isn't actually involved in the 'Dynamic Missions'?(First trial run of some bits and pieces coming in 3.17 finally...)
Miffs me off too about the time frame but it is what it is. Even one system I've had more enjoyment in star citizen than ive had in elite.
Angry that the funding model works well and that the game appeals to more and more funders?Six ship sale events already this year are having a clear effect: whale backers showing they're more than happy to keep spending, openly celebrate being farmed for $$$, fund CIG's Pay2Skip (Pay2Win) revenue model, through buying ships for the Early Access in-alpha game of Star Citizen while the vast majority of the funding goes towards Squadron 42 development.
The Calders will be pleased - more dividends for them!![]()
Yes, a buggy alpha with less and less bugs quarter after quarter![]()
I'm sure that all these continued mentions and postings of "scam" by fans and critics in relation to Star Citizen is doing wonders for search engines' algorithms and results.A fun new scam theory![]()
Why are you angry? Why are you surprised that there isn't a collapse in funding?Angry that the funding model works well and that the game appeals to more and more funders?
No collapse of funding due to the catastrophic state of the stagnant and unplayable alpha? What a surprise!
Bigotry. It fuels destructive motives because living with double standards has a tendency to erode personal values and normalise aberrant views and behaviours. That's just a theory.I will never understand celebrating the fact that someone's favourite game requires whale fracking of astounding intensity just to plod forward, slowly. I could understand something like "look what this small studio with a miniscule budget pulled off! I got hundreds of hours in and I am not done yet!".
But this celebration of waste is really mind boggling.
I don't know that he even really supports it. Seems to me that he is just stooping to any depth to get a rise out of people in this thread.I will never understand celebrating the fact that someone's favourite game requires whale fracking of astounding intensity just to plod forward, slowly. I think so. A couple is 2, several is more than 2. And my favoured words for many fall foul of the swearing filterA couple? A couple should be 2.
If you've ever been moderately proficient at table tennis, the VR games are surprisingly realistic. Broken knuckles are always a danger.Once you get past the lamp punching stage (and the leaning on imaginary pool tables stage…) it gets a bit safer
(Although I did chip my thumb bone with a Hollywood grenade toss last year. Totally uppercutted my screen :/)
Alyx should give you all the AAA hijinks you need, but if you want recos for other games got a big list here (space games included)
Just avoid Sataball…

Wait, what, it's not, there's something called "game theory" and that's definitely not subjective, it's science. There are several mathematical models that help describing it.
Re-defining words and vocabulary is a corner stone of cults - please avoid falling into that trap...
One kill by the inv system every 5 min ? Every 30 min ? One by hour ? One by day ? Only one time ? PTU or PU ?I guess you missed the post just above of the guy killed by the new inventory system then?
Let me take that and use it in exactly the same way against your own argument:The bug hunt is mostly to reassure themselves and deny the fact that the alpha is progressing quarter after quarter towards a real game.
It's the same logic as putting aside the fun aspect of a game, or saying over and over that there is no gameplay or content (even though there is more and more) = to avoid facing the truth about the real state of the alpha.
Have you noticed that the tech demo argument is becoming less and less common here?
