Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I don't know why you and so many others you are laughing at SC not being released yet?

Cyberpunk wasn't released for 7 years, then when it finally was it ruined the reputation of a studio that was considered the last trustworthy one, because of the "games are an art philosophy. And two main reasons why it is released in such a terrible state was;

1) Investors want a return.
2) Fans like yourself also thought it wasn't going to be released, laughed and joked at them, like you are doing here, other fans sent death threats to staff at Project Red for it not being released. How funny is that?

Then, when it was released, the same people started throwing their teddies out the pram as to why it was so broken. Permanently, damaging the rep CPR. Still even after 2 years of the games release. The game still isn't finished, it still has bugs and annoyance is places. Like lots traffic ahead in the distance on empty desert roads with no vehicles, because of the way they animate vehicles in the distance as 2D back drop and 3D for near to medium. So even with no cars on the road, it looks like there is a traffic jam ahead in the middle of an empty desert. But I love it, it's clear they love the game and trying to make how they always wanted it to be.

The same goes for Elite, FDev still haven't replaced the place holder mechanics upon release with the updated more in-depth ones. Trading is still almost the same mechanic as it was 8-years ago, exploring is the same as it was 8 years ago, with a few little things added and factions has remained almost unchanged in 8 years of development. Still very basic core mechanics, releasing updates that do nothing but add new doors to the same old place holder mechanics. IT's why to me, it's so disappointing, it's been developed nowhere near enough in the last 8 years.

Star Citizen is a very ambitious project. It is not something that they can create overnight. It's a monumental task what they are doing. And step by step they are getting. I have been keeping eyes on the game as it slowly gets fleshed out. And I am rooting for them. I am not going mock them; people mocked No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk 2077. Look where they are now.

Yet when you look at ED, and what they have achieved in the same time frame with a game that was released, it's nowhere near enough. They haven't released planets with atmospheres yet, only a select few, no flying in gas giants, no flying and walking over Earth Like planets and not even upgraded its core mechanics. CQC, Powerplay and Odyssey all failures in their own rights.

It took 9 years of development for Cyberpunk, 8 years of development for not much to change in elite, Rare's new MMO looks like it will still take another 7 years to complete. Destiny cost $500 million to make and was released with a DLC included, hidden behind a pay wall, IIRC.

I love the look of the new Squadron 42, if they get the flight mechanics right, it's going to be a winner and I am going to get a copy of myself. So what if take a few more years to arrive? As they say, all good things to those who wait. And if hopefully the added funds will go towards finishing Star Citizen.

Games are huge in today's world, vast, complex, detailed, expensive and time consuming. I am sick of seeing this garbage being aimed at SC. I would be really disappointed if it did collapse and never got released, I paid no money in to it, but it will be a loss as it looks like it could be something special, just like ED once did.

It wasn't us who said SC and/or SQ42 would be released in 2014... 2015... 2016... 2017... 2018... 2019... 2020... 2021... 2022...

Do you know who it was?

I'll give you a clue, its a TLA starting with C, ending in G, with an I in the middle.

Never mind, Pyro coming soon, right? Right?

I don't even know where to start...it's like 10 years worth of Star Citizen bingo all in one post

No, he definitely missed some of the key excuses. I guess interns don't get the full script.

Like I said, I disagree with the way they did it.

I handed over plenty of cash FDev and I still not seen any real upgrades to those place holders for the last 8 years. Still flying in the clouds of gas giants or go big game hunting on an alien planet.

They are all at it and no ones nose is clean.
Really?! Comparing spending money on cosmetics based upon Braben' wishes from 2012 with promises actually sold in CIG store from modding manual to land claims with tons of ships tied to X feature(s) (still tier0 at best, MIA at worst) in between? Really??

I've played it, my friend lent me his account to try it out. A bit buggy in places, demanding on the systems, but it can be good fun.

So, I have no idea what you are talking about.
Like most relatively new visitors, you seem to be making the assumption that folks on here passing criticism on SC have never played it...like a few others on this bit of the forum, I've been a star citizen backer and regular player for many years. ;)

And it also helps explain how SC keeps on getting money from new, somewhat uninformed, players or players who dot really care about CIG´s track record of non delivery. And which is also one of the main reasons this game prolly needs to get widespread reviews and critic scores as plenty of the most popular early access games do.

What amuses me is that they inevitably compare Star Citizen to a ten year old game with less than a tithe of its overall budget in order to claim SC is actually good, while simultaneously poo-pooing said game. Cognitive dissonance at its finest.

"no respect for their peers, the project, or the community"

That is the best summation of CI-G I've heard in years.

Would be ironic if the leak came from the community team. (IE "a member of our team".)

Most of the Community team are long-term backers who joined up. It'd be a circle of disrespect ;)

What actually happened though? Did someone repost meetingroom.jpg with the developers, Handbag and Bunnyman?

Think it's just this:

Not sure that Ci~G understand what a 'Cutter' is in nautical terms... rather than a Drake 'Cutter'... which conjures up romantic images of privateers scooting around the Carribean with a boat full of looted Spanish gold... this is more like a Drake Rowing boat

EDIT: Oh actually it might be the Galaxy. (The 'Anaconda designed by an AI' one).

Y'know. One of the various egregious concept ships they're blocking out for the sales event, instead of finishing the prior ones...

IMHO, sometime around 2019 Star Citizen started looking "good enough" on Twitch streams to convince newbies to buy it. New commenters always show up, have never heard of the game, and think it looks neat. It's a competent confidence scam.

Don't forget YouTube ;)

Heavens

I sold my account through The Impound, so I confirm they are legit, I got 50% back but that's better than a 100% loss.

Forget this project and all the YouTubers that curate content and deceive people into thinking this is a functional game, that's how I got in when Odyssey released and Elite was getting a lot of crap for it.
