Star Citizen Discussions v7

I thought CR was saying labels don't apply any more while also saying it was like Early Access and that a release does not mean it has released.

An MVP of the alpha

Did they start off with a finished game and then program it in reverse? That would explain a lot.

I'm going to have a try posting in the new approved format:

With nothing personally against CIG or RSI and acknowledging that it's just an alpha and that it's only the foundations of a game and not meant to be entirely complete yet etc etc etc

it's a buggy mess, whose late release has regularly been excused on the basis of CR being a perfectionist and wanting it to be just right which seems a fantasy considering the state of what has actually been put out there.

Is that OK?

RSI says this is an Alpha build.

They do, when it suits them. They also have a website which prominently states 'fly now' on the front page, and which, where it mentions 'alpha' on the 'getting started' page tells potential purchasers that "you can start playing all of these modules today". Not 'you can start bug-testing for us', but 'play'. And as I recall, a year or so ago they were trying to refuse refunds on the basis that the game was 'almost finished'.

Yup, i'm very pleased to see the progress with 3.0, but the marketing (videos/site/articles) and the fans' driving of the kool aid really presents a very skewed picture of the reality.

The whole thing about "I'd rather CIG take their time and get it right rather than a buggy mess" mantra that is thrown out again and again, but as soon as CIG releases it becomes "Its just an alpha" is completely..... ugh. Well, ill say it. Its doublethink. I'd be totally fine if the fans said, "hey, its is buggy, but it is going to take years to get it right" (to be fair, some do say this).

But when CIG repeatedly try and present SC as some sort of playable game... that's just too much for me.

Also when they proclaim to the world they will blow anything out there away, I get a nerve twinkle in my right eye, my meter goes of the scale.

Dial all that back, and maybe just maybe some of us won't be so hard on them.

Pretty good example of how it doesnt matter how many evidence for your claim, links, transcipts, videos, sources you bring out. They will ignore it or paint you as a liar/hater/goon just out their trying to defy the god.
Its all about the faith, belief, trust, emotions, dedications and most importantly how much you are ready to spend in order to be worthy of note.

And then people wonder why they are called a cult...

The Agent on SA informs us......

fun with numbers

First Day Star Citizen Anniversary Sale Funding 2017: $434,735
First Day Star Citizen Anniversary Sale Funding 2016: $1,302,326
First Day Star Citizen Anniversary Sale Funding 2015: $633,883
First Day Star Citizen Anniversary Sale Funding 2014: $665,676
First Day Star Citizen Anniversary Sale Funding 2013: $242,069

for all you playing at home, the funding tracker for the 24th is complete at $434,735. That's an $867,591 decrease from last year or a 66.6% decline in first day sales, making it the worst opening anniversary sale day since 2013

Quoting it again just because I'm really nitpicky. The funding in the first day of the sale has reached $770,167 if we take the numbers from the google docs spreadsheet, the same place numbers for previous years were taken. It's around 1.21 times more than in 2015, and if the ratio would hold for all other days, CIG is set to earn around 4.2 million this November.

Stop ruining our narrative. ;)

I believe you. Just passed it over from SA as they had a guessing contest going on, about how much they will raise during the sale.

For the record I guessed $3.85m. But I have been known to underestimate how stupid people can be with money. ;)

The "Never been done before" does my head in.

The "Never been done before" does my head in.

"CIG just invented gameplay concept X and it's never even been thought of or tried before!" that was obviously and demonstrably released in an actual product decades ago is what really gets the lulz flowing.

Genuine Roberts claiming to have invented the FPS was, for me, one of the most staggering moments in gaming history.

Well they are kind of right.

As far as gaming development is concerned, this is old hat. None of the stuff they've done is groundbreaking.

As far as raising millions in money, that hasn't been done before. So it's the Best Damned Space Tech Demo Money Making Machine Ever - the BDSTDMME

He did what!? [haha]

Oh, I don't know. There's a guy who now respawns with a box in his hand every time. Pretty sure that's never been done before... :D
