Star Citizen Discussions v7

The /r/starcitizen thread is very strange today.
The usual folks that try to drown out any discussion from people with concerns for SC, are bewildered by CIG's latest move.
Some are even being called goons.

I'm running out of popcorn.

DS has predicted the end days for so long, he's now the dev version of a homeless guy in Brooklyn wearing a "The end is nigh" sandwich board.

But it's possible he'll eventually be right after all...

The money will keep pouring in, that is the nature of the flock. Look at all the cults out there, same mechanics.

I'm going to buy a small square of land and name it Smartlandia.
I will have a sheep and a cow and breed horses.
It's me plan and no-one can get in the way of it, not even you and I do respect you, sir.

Shouldn't it be called Fushal?

In a rather cutting piece of journalism....

But there's a good reason I'm so aghast! After all, Chris Roberts is my competition because as of today I, Rich Stanton, am pleased to offer prospective backers virtual land in my very real automobile MMOG, Car Citizen. These 'Whalezones' can be applied to any road in the eventual game, and will grant the right to prosecute any players driving through it with trespass. Sick of the kids disrespecting you online? How about some IRL ownership! Terms and conditions apply.

EDIT: From the comments, and this is pure gold...

If you don't like that, go play Destiny 2 or Star Wars Battlefront 2 instead.

Can't tell if serious or....

Almost the price of a AAA game, for a plot of land, that according to CIG is not pay to win and will confer no advantage over anyone who doesn't pay.

Here's a thought, let's say a company wants to raise money, but needs some way of doing it through transactions, because they can't do it in another way for some reasons...... i'm not saying any more, because then i'd be getting into naughty land territory with forum rules, but think about it.

In other news, someone on reddit joked CIG should start a crypto currency. Just imagine, Star Coin, the latest revolution in crypto currencies. Never been done before, with much fidelity. Let your computers generate SC credits for you!

Of course, you'd need to buy the Genuine Roberts ASIC in order to join in - maybe presented in the form of a Space Ship shaped USB device :D

Maybe it'd even come in a special green case ;)

Sorry if I've missed the point, but isn't that exactly the idea?

If in real life one was routinely and randomly killing and/or robbing then one might imagine that the forces of law and order would take a dim view of those actions, and be a little bit motivated to stop you.

tbh I'm not sure I really understand the difficulty with 'balancing' C&P - e.g. 1. decide what's considered bad in the game, 2. make a count per user of how many times bad things are done, 3. divide by time, 4. multiply by frequency, and if "score > 100", "unleash hell" until net worth = 100 cr.

That's the idea, i think, nothing is implemented yet so we will have to see what happens.

Like a lot of things in SC, the ideas are cool. Implementation though is one thing. Actually how they will work on practice is another. How useful and interesting they will be is another.

Remember they actually specced out the role of being a host(-ess) on passenger flights role and mixing drinks mechanics for the passengers. Seriously, they actually wasted time and effort on that, and some backers even got excited about it.

Nonsense!

That was just expanding the narrative possibilities of the rich gameplay available using in-game assets, running in real-time, in-engine, from their first trailer.

All those commando's saluting were just indicating an interest in a cheeky sniftie before last orders at the bar.

And don't forget the Vandull hiding behind the asteroid ;)

Hold on a second here. I've been following Star Citizen's progress on this thread. I get there is something weird and iffy about the way the development's funded, but I thought that the game was coming along okay, albeit buggy-ly and slowly.

But then I say the comment from baTonkaTruck on the kotaku website "Currently in 3.0, you can't even have a dogfight with another ship."

Really!?

On this release of the game you can't engage in a bit of dog fighting?

What are people doing in this game if not fighting in spaceships? Is it all fighting on foot?

That is due to their testing methodology.

i.e when they get enough players together to look at entity interaction, which already brings clients to their knees, introducing ships and the resulting ship pew-pew completely breaks them, and sends servers into recursive lulz.

CIG need seasoned network engineers.

They don't have them.

It's an alpha. It always is.
