Star Citizen Thread v6

Hmm.. a SC enthusiast posts a series of msgs telling of the fun he had with his mates, and immediately sees this. (I note he had the good taste to ignore it).

I'm actually quite intrigued. What has caused this level of hate? Did you lose a lot of money? Could you not get a refund?

Just so that you're aware, I (and I assume others) are completely independent of bias towards SC, and wouldn't mind hearing from SC enthusiasts who actually bother to post on an ED forum. I can assure you I (and others?) can adequately assess the merits of such posts and any associated delusional behaviour, without needing hate posts that might drive away what appear to be otherwise positive contributors.

So again, I'm curious. See questions above.

Please don't categorise my opinion as hate.

Independent of bias? Don't make me laugh.

Cult.

Well, when newcomers start having a go at our Rolan, telling him he needs to watch ATVs and do more research...
That is a whole new chapter in satire right there.

Only a week until the Evocati get 3.0 and then we will get the inevitable leaks / false news and the possible return of the real meta-game!

No - you miss the point. ED offers paint jobs etc as cosmetics. A player who purchases Bright Pink Shiny Paintjob enjoys no advantage over a player who purchased Dull Grey but Glowing Neon Paintjob.

CIG are explicitly offering advantage - wether it's in ships or weapons or armour or space kittens.

Well, the clothes and stuff are purchased with in-game money. I said it before, EVERY ship is relevant therefore, there's no real advantage. Me thinks you have been playing ED for way too long. :D

Hi

is this true? The promise CR made back in the day was that buying ships with real coin was a way to support the game but that every single ship would be purchasable with in game cash.

if there ARE golden ships in the game not purchasable with in game cash i think i am done and will process a refund.. however if its just giving you a few hrs headstart (for the smaller ships) then i do not care.

indeed i am far more worried about the LTE than i am people starting with a better ship. LTE means that those players can attack other players risk free without worrying if they lose or not.... which imo is far more P2W than starting with a better ship imo.

(indeed my backer level meant i could start the game with an eagle, sidey or various levels of loaded cobra, (i chose not too, sidey all the way) but the reality is even a cobra start level only gave you maybe 20hrs head start - if you played it efficiently - even back at launch... now however its barely 15 mins head start.

Mad Mike.....

Yes, you will be able to purchase ships, equipment, and gear with in-game and/or real money. From what I've read, the complete details are still under consideration.

I think it's important to note that what people think as getting a more powerful ship has a lot more to consider than just firepower. I bought a Polaris. Fast and powerful corvette with big torpedoes. I still have to pay to equip and crew it. On most ships so far, only half the turrets are automated.

Bigger ships need more manpower and equipment. Real manpower to be at their best. So it's realistic to say that there will be a good amount of player operated ships that don't have a full crew which will vary their effectiveness.

Personally, I can totally see that most of my time would be in the cockpit of a Vanguard Warden. Just enough to get a lot done by myself but with the added pleasure of being able to bring someone along and not break the bank in operating costs.

here is what we can expect from gamescom this year.

i still find it funny that we are still 2 weeks away from everything.

Well then you'll always have Elite Dangerous. I too was pretty skeptical until I really played it Sunday. Now I'm a bit more hopeful and impressed.

Lest not forget that I can get my money back if it flops.

If you can, I urge anyone to try the game as it is right now for yourself. Judge for yourself and I'm sure you milage will vary. Elite Dangerous is still a very good and established game in its' own right.

how exactly you guys are going to pay and crew for your own ship?

hi

thanks... i thought as much. (my) panic over. :)

btw on a segue... you say the larger ships need to be "manned"........ is that manned by meat suits or can we / will we be able to hire npcs to do the same job (for me a feature sorely lacking in ED)

You'll be able to take jobs and missions in the game later. I currently have my real friends and some from ED who are willing to crew my ship. If I keep the Polaris, hopefully, it can fit a Vanguard Hoplite inside for planetary missions. That's my plan if I don't get the Carrack instead or some really want their own ships. I believe they are planning to have artificial crew you can hire as well.

cool
I am an antisocial git and only really tend to play with real life friends... and i am the only one of my real life friends who has currently bought into SC.

i just hope VR support comes, everything else, to be honest i think sounds promising.

In ED a player group can get their own station, outpost, or Megaship but the Megaships currently don't go to anywhere the group wants it to go I believe.. In Star Citizen, it may be possible for a player group to operate and crew a frigate!

I was impressed. It's still a good way from being finished, but what's presented is more than I thought I would get from an Alpha.

I still much prefer ED's flight model though. It's silky smooth compared to SC right now.

If Frontier reworked their ships and established more definable roles for them, I think it would be more of a struggle on choice if it came to that.

Like why does the Vulture have 2 seats?

Every ship should at least have 2 utility slots to ensure they remain relevant in the game!

I don't understand why freighters in ED are largely single seat and why their hard points are not in good positions for defense! Freighter don't need guns in the front of the ship! It's too busy trying to get away!

Etc........Like, the Keelback was a missed opportunity at greatness! A 2 seat cockpit with a Class 2 weapon slot on top center with all it's other features and it would have been THE ship for the casual ED player. Cargo capacity, Defense, buddy up, and an internal fighter to boot! WHY?

i can agree with that. dont buy it for what it promises to do in future.
Only buy it if you enjoy it as it is.
And you can always wait for free weeks before buying in.

The promises CIG does can and will change in future. Nobody knows what form star citizen will take in future.
2014 saw the inclusion of ship breaches.
2015 saw the inclusion of planets into the project
2016 saw the inclusion subsumption into the project (its still not clear what exactly makes subsumption special)

all of the feature sets mentioned have required a lot of refactor delaying the delivery, so dont be surprised if next new feature will delay the project even further.

Why would anyone willing to be someone else's crew anyway? What's going to happen if one decide to stop being a crew in the middle of nowhere?

I'd wondered about that too. If a crew member either gets bored, or misses out on logging in for the next scheduled "Org Time", is the ship crippled?

When they do log back in are they still in their crew bunk or get jettisoned at the coordinates they logged out?

If they need to go home because their Mam is calling them in for tea do they need to take the airlock to respawnville and leave the Ship Commander under-crewed and potentially marooned?

I know "the other game" created a solution that hasn't exactly satisfied everyone. Maybe there will be more information at Citcon when 3.0 launches. With all the new activities like planetary stuff, multi-crew options will come to the fore (imo).

Man who spends $750 on a pixel spaceship (that is rumoured to cost 30 million UEC in game) tries to convince everyone that it is all fine, it will all be balanced and it will all be fair. The 1%ers will need 1%er incomes to fly their 1%er spaceships and the plebs in their pleb ships will only need pleb incomes... balanced!!

There are bound to be willing volunteers to join the crew, who immediately go to gunnery controls and fire all missiles in descending order of real world dollar value.

Think shield cell banks at $70 a pop.
