Considering that people have in the current early alpha already moved around a big bennys noodles around the solar system I would applaud if people went through the job of blockading a bar or other establishment with cargo crates. That takes commitment.

Snarfbuckle, you might want to look up groups such as : SDC, Goons, and others like them, who are into games for the lulz, or as SDC call it, smiles per gallon.

There will always be those who look to cause mischief in games.

To be honest, if SC is ever released, and a half decent game, i'll be tempted to sign up with the most basic package and then spend my time stealing big ships from people who bought Idrises and the like, a la Grand Theft Auto. :D

Pretty much my plan! Cause as much trouble to those with expensive ships with my cheapo-chariot ...

Mischief and Trolling is good, i just find most of the time that many forget the line between them and grief people for fun.

This is something I find strange. Why are people so uniformed, how can you be a backer, a diligent fan and regularly write about the project and still get this is wrong. Is it ignorance or is it using their platform to mislead people over the success or popularity? When I see things like this I just think marketing mouthpiece.

We’re looking at $158,007,547 pledged by 1,866,979 backers.

What? I guess they use official information, AKA the Star Citizen homepage and goes with the assumtion that the funding tracker is not a complete scam and filled with lies? I mean, it's the closest official information they can get.

And anyone who is into the game to the degree that guy is into it should know about the numbers. It's something that's been repeated everywhere, maybe expecting due diligence is asking too much.

Repeated everywhere and using official sources are not the same thing.

- In that case we can safely say that the money they have is most likely MORE than the 158 millions if we add investment over the years, anonymous backers and possible loans.
- Even if the backer amount would be half it would still be bloody impressive.

Either way CIG have backers and they have money.

PCGamer really need to get a hold on their comments section. Allowing posters to openly mock someone else for perceived mental health issues isn't classy, regardless of who he is, or what relevance he might have to 3.0 getting delayed again.

The big cheese white knight there is openly stating the game will move to beta on or around the end of 2018. That's a confident position. I wonder what they said about 3.0 after Gamescom last year?

I cannot understand how that Face Over IP thing is even a thing right now.

Maybe it is the old "I don't understand games development"... In a previous life I was in CS for an online game and during one lamentable patch, we asked Ops how it was going. The rather pithy response was "Like trying to lay a banquet on a table built from excrement..." Somehow that seems oddly relevant.

Bloody impressive? Not I would high five that, but impressive for 'that scammy startup' kind, yes.

But whatever you call it IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO FINISH GAME IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM.

Fact that it is not called at this point is just insane. Whatever their spending is, it is not enough to finish game even at 3.0 alpha level. And I don't talk about Squadron 42 content.

There's nothing to salvage, nothing to improve. Nor amount of money will save this.

Yes, they can stretch it out, torture fans, torture people will less insight into development and project management. It does not matter.

Bigger the bravado, less possibility you get caught for lying and BSing. Old troll/forum fight tactics 101.

People has shown examples or buyer bias - for ED, NMS, and other crowdfounded games - taking strong grasp on people. But I bet it compares nothing to what distortion field CIG and SC core fan base have around the game.

Well, at least it isn't a certain, unnamed site created solely to host CIG's marketing article, with some (allegedly) plagiarized articles added to liven up the void.

Tuub Please do not call him a white knight, the white knights are the good guys.

We all have opinions about DS. But teasing someone about their medical problems (perceived or otherwise) is not correct. They seem to think sauce for the goose and all that, or that free speech is free speech and that if DS can say the things he does then they can poke fun at him in any way they wish. I agree with you that this is not correct.
I have emailed PC gamer to log a complaint about it. It must be the equivalent of racism or sexism to make comments like that about someone's mental health (perceived or otherwise). I do not know the equivalent in England but we have a statute against it here.

I actually miss DS being here and had some fun exchanges with him.

Offtopic but yet ontopic, very strong deja vu

TLDR no one have succeeded creating good space game using FPS engine

Interesting the first slide talks about its 5 year development, the consensus is that it is a disapointing. And that for an established company

Yet folk continue to want ( and criticise for not doing) CIG, a new company that had to start from scratch to publish its game within that same 5 years. In fact what CIG have done much to their credit is to ask fans to stick with them whilst they almost completely rewrite the engine.

No one can know the future but they are a new dynamic company/business, willing to change and challenge the norms, the product looks promising.

I think this video shows why CIG are correct to do what they are doing, slow, steady thoughtful game development, I have invested my 54 Euros in that business and am 99% certain I will get a worthwhile product. In fact even what they have produced now if fun.
