Game Discussions Star wars Squadrons

Played it for all of 2-3 minutes, spent 45 minutes trying to get it to recognise two axis on my rudder pedals. Everything else got bound bar one yaw axis. It just wouldn't let me bind yaw right to my right rudder pedal.

Typical, it looked fun too. I'll buy it again at some point when and if they fix it.

Can someone who's tried this and who's also tried Eve Valkyrie confirm if it's significantly different or better because funnily enough I bounced off Valkyrie and have barely played it despite being incredibly excited for it when it came out.
I bounced off Valkyrie because abysmal throttle mechanism, basically you were a fighter jet in space with constant thrust. Other than that, Valkyrie was fun, but ultimately turned into "turrets in spaaaaaaaaace", so didn't pursue it too much. I'd rather play Everspace in VR.

I'll stop you right there: no vectoring thrusters, old Tie Fighter style. Literally WW2 in space, minus the "drift" manoeuver. I suppose you could try that as well in WW2, but a flat spin and loss of consciousness was the most likely result back then.

Huh...disappointing. Oh well - an opportunity to save some cash is also good! :)

Well I'm more than happy, looks splendid, particularly liked a big ship not disapearing in an explosion (unlike the old games) more like freespace, looks splendid, controls are good so far it detected my TM warthog ok...I'm still getting all bindings sorted out, I seem to have missiles and repair on the same button.

Only downsides so far are mixed campaign...don't like jumping from Empire to Rebel, just let us play one or the other. First missions a bit manic when trying to sort out key bindings, rather a lot going on when trying to find ones feet!

did I mention it looks splendid!

SW squadrons only recognises my X56 stick but not the throttle. I can either play with an Xbox controller or half a HOTAS...looks like it'll be uninstalled. I got it for free with EA play pro so no loss :)
Hope that gets sorted out soon.

I don't understand what's so special about this game. It's not like there's never been a Star Wars game where you fly around in a ship shooting things.
What Star Wars really needs is an MMORPG because even SWTOR is showing its age.

Like others have said it's been decades since the last decent SW based space sim, by your logic Elite Dangerous isn't special. It's not like there's never been an Elite game where you fly around in a ship shooting things (and trading). ;)

Although in all fairness the latest XWVM stream I watched was utterly stunning so I just want the old games with better graphics.

@Stigbob - I’ve gone straight for the more sim-ish option and I’m finding it to be very much like ED FAon, or the original X-Wing games. Power management is virtually identical. I’ve not had a chance to try out any of the ‘bonus’ functions beyond a limited repair thing for the Tie, but it looks like there’s lots of options to come there.

Sounds good to me, I've been after exactly that for years.

Elite Dangerous isn't special, it's not the only space sim game either now or ever.

Spent about an hour in it last night. Yep, Setting up the x-52 was a pain. The ships felt 'sluggish' compared to Elite but fifteen minutes in on the first mission with an X-wing.... I was in heaven.

Ok then:

"I don't understand what's so special about this game. It's not like there's never been a MMORPG Star Wars game where you walk and fly around with people doing stuff in instances.
What Star Wars really needs is a space combat simulator because even XWA is showing its age."

See?

Say what now?! You jump from one to the other? It's not pick one side for the campaign then you could replay as the other?

Well I've only done the prologue so maybe the rest is different, but it starts as Empire then concludes as Rebel, could be because it's the prologue and is all one mission.

It was Igor's Lab, Jay only doubled down - will take a look, otherwise stopped watching 3080 contents as it is a completely irrelevant mystery product at this point. :)

How's the VR performance? Read posts that people are struggling with 2070s and 1080ti.
I'm running it with a 1080ti and it feels fine so far. I like the immersion with VR, but I like the graphics with standard screen. It's a tradeoff. Toggling between standard and flat is very easy ingame. ALso the monitor has a single image for people to see what you see which is nice. (rather than nothing, or the double screen capture)

I’ve just bumped the difficulty up to Veteran from the default Normal, replayed the Prologue and it feels much closer to the original games - power management becomes important, I actually started getting cockpit sparks and a damaged canopy, and almost got destroyed on a few occasions 🙂

There’s an option I’ve adjusted that gives finer power allocation, instead of the all-or-nothing default, so it’s just like the old games & ED now.

I’ve noticed a bit of stuttery movement of other ships but apparently there’s a bug where they’re playing at 60fps and, obviously, VR isn’t 😁 but the devs are aware and working on it.

I’ve also managed to cure the fuzzy look of the game - there’s a TAA sharpness setting which I’ve turned up to 50%

Whats the flight model like. Are we talking sim or ported console garbage here ?.
It's a posh XvT Stig...there never was a console version of that...but squadrons was certainly designed for consoles given that it's a crossplay title. To me...it has the worst of both worlds with the muddled control setup and menu system, but it looks pretty. The story is nothing to write home about, the gameplay is centred on the multiplayer aspect with a tag along story mode.

It's not bad...but not my cuppa tea :)

Thanks Mole a posh XvT sounds good, but I'm really picky about HOTAS compatible FM's so I tend to try them out on other peoples copies first.

Does it feel like XvT ?, if so I'll love it.
