State of the Game

time for lunch:

hurricanes are pretty big with hurricane force winds spanning sometimes over 120 miles from center ...and the storm itself much more than that.. where are you going to evacuate to ..much less what are you going to evacuate that isn't already evacuated?

very few people die (in the US) from high winds around the eye. Most deaths occur from the flooding and tornadoes that spawn ...and that spans hundreds of miles easily at any single point of time, much less the span the storm tracks as it moves. But even that is usually a fairly small number ... averaging about 6 deaths per hurricane
It's really nice to know that you have an answer for, literally, everything. I'll be calling on your knowledge base in the future...

And see, there you go again, having an answer. I envy you your uncanny ability...or did you google that one too?

Nah, no need to google that. just basic read/response skills taught in elementary school. Doesn't require any special skills.

but when you have an on demand encyclopedia at your fingertips and either dont want to or can't use it effectively... well that's on you.. It's not magic when it is used.

if you would play nms you would know - underground.

but water likes to go underground...so surface flooding would make that fairly problematic for most of the places most impacted by such storms (as they tend to also be fairly low in elevation). Would help for the wind, sure.

I have all of the main space games and I've played nms quite a bit. What just turns me off from it though is that it's not about flying space ships. So my interest in it is nearly non-existent. But i have that pre-order metal ship model .... teasing me about what it might have been if their vision leaned a bit more on the flying around / hotas controlling side of things.

I wonder how close fdev is to a complete city-planet procedural terrain generator. I'd think that would be easier than atomospheric planets with weather and potentially forests/water etc ... So it would be something (if we see anything more) that comes before those more complex planets.

Alter the normal planet terrain generator to spawn buildings of specific heights and types with tubeways connecting them (since it would all have to be air tight) instead of mountains and valleys. Have settlements littered across the surface ...seamlessly integrated into the surrounding generated city. With most of the activity going on within the tubes and buildings, it wouldn't require much else except maybe a higher than ordinary amount of npc activity.

Toss a couple of those in the core systems. And if the collision system has an issue with handling players flying between the buildings and such, they could implement a speed limiter in ships (similar to what happens when your landing gear is down)... it would be less fun but better than flying thru the meshes.

That would be something worth coming back to the bubble to see first hand in VR.

He lives in google I think. It makes experts of anyone who "wants" to be an expert.

And see, there you go again, having an answer. I envy you your uncanny ability...or did you google that one too?

Yes, google.

Yet the only thing he struggles with is how to be interesting.

Or to have people skills, empathy, or the thought of one's own superiority.

How superior can he really be if he spends his downtime here rambling on like the man down the road from me who tries to sniff peoples hair?

I thought it was google that was superior and I was just choosing to use it cuz it's better not to. Do you guys need a min to get on the same page? I know it can be tedious copying BH's comments and posts because his posts are usually pages late as he spends most of his time caressing his stuphz
