i hate steam, very very much. I hate friends. I hate to have the game automatically updated

Hehe.

Actually, if a can get a game not via Steam ill choose that version over the Steam version. Prefer 100% of funding go direct to the devs, and just like in real life, i hate middlemen and avoid them where possible. I've got i think 4 games on Steam, and two of those were gifts from a friend who is a heavy Steam user. So most of the time Steam is not running on my comp.

I love friends, especially real life friends. Good for drinking with.

I *do* hate games (and apps) that automatically update though. Its my computer, and it should only do things with my express permission. I know in Steam you can set it to only update when you say so, its just more of a general comment (looking at things like Java, Chrome, Firefox, etc, all with their auto-updaters that i turn off as soon as they are installed).

Great news. Thanks guys. I will redeem the key and add the game to my library so I can post a review and recommend the game but I have no plans of installing it from Steam. I do not want to have Steam running while I play the game and I don't want any of my store purchases from FD being credited to Steam.

Pretty much this, i do use steam as some games are steamworks only and nothing you can do about it but for ED i probably won't be running it on steam, obviously adding a review and correcting some inbalance there is a must. My non steam game collection is just HUGE but not so big as ED, yes it's that good.

FD please, please do not hand your gaming servers over to steam ever. ARMA 3 did just that and then hackers came along making it a constant battle for Steam to deal with them daily. If i had a choice i would turn my back on steam, but i can not as there are no other gaming servers to play ARMA 3.

You should probably just stay off the internet then. Your anger levels may drop.
In the meantime, have a word with yourself. You are no better than those you wish to berate.

Ehh!!!!

I wasn't the one crying over not having a steam key, then crying like a baby to get one...

You are right, I am not better than them... I am GOD, compared to them... So thank you for clearing that up for me, very generous of you.

Well, actually, it will just show who has the launcher open. They could not be running the game, or just be sat at the main menu. The only way to see who is actually playing, is go into the game yourself.
Yup, having it on steam is in no way beneficial to seeing who is actually online in game.

None, what-so-ever.

This is superb - this is HUGE and way bigger than 1.1 & 1.2 for me and I am amazed it has not got more fanfare!

Thank you FD.

Thank you FD.

Because it will probably end up costing them money and take resources away from the games development. And with an independent company like FD, they need all the cash they can get, not waste it pampering to babies.

Of course, it may not cost them money depending on the deal they done with steam, but it will cost them money in the form of wages, time and effort to deal with this.

So do you really not blame them for taking it as big thing.

I would like an answer from FD if it costs them money if we generate the steam keys when it becomes available. If it does, then I will probably bypass this offer and let FD keep the funds. If it costs them nothing, then I will graciously accept the gift and applaud their efforts to appease the masses.

I just wanted to say that as a day one backer (and a backer of many, many more other Kickstarters than I care to admit to) I greatly appreciate that Frontier has listened and responded in a customer-centric way.

Steam isn't for everyone, but it's an almost ubiquitous standard amongst crowd-funded games and my preferred means of library consolidation. Frontier committing to retroactive Steam keys effectively secures my support for future products.

Thank-you once again.

+1 rep for you

I've yet to see a direct quote, but supposedly many game developers have done this, but besides maybe a one-time fee to cover someone working to integrate databases with Steam or some such, there is no "cost per key generated". I have yet to see any developer say it costs them money, and I've had plenty of games over the years that I have bought directly from a developer, that eventually gave out a Steam Key later on. None have indicated any type of cost, other than time it took.

Now, if Frontier would just release an Anaconda paint pack so I could throw them some extra money....

I had considered buying a second copy of the game on Steam. Not really to use, just to further support such an amazing game. I really wish I'd been able to get in on this on kickstarter, but I've had some bad experiences with projects on there. It's nice to see some actually do deliver. And then go beyond, if what I'm hearing is anything to go by.

I might still pick up the second copy anyway. I'll have to think on it.

You could always gift it! And if you do buy a second, buy it from Frontier Developments store. That way Valve don't get a share.

Heh. Though I happen to like steam, but if they're going to be giving keys out and they don't cost us or Frontier anything then it seems to me that would be the way to go.
