I'm a little concerned about future OR support. Not a word about it since 0.5 runtime, except to warn us not to use newer sdk versions.

UPDATE: just twitted from oficial Elite account: "We're still working with Oculus. We'll keep everyone informed once we have more information." At least they are on it.

Has anyone actually used the Vive? It seems to have quietly sneaked up into being a front runner for ED....
SlackR started a thread about his experience on the Vive, might give you an idea..

Has anyone actually used the Vive?
I'll let you know after EGX on Thursday.
Great news! Now I wonder if Oculus Rift support will be updated before christmas... I miss Elite Dangerous so much...
This is interesting... The way the wind is blowing the Vive is starting to look like a more tempting prospect than oculus! My reasoning:
1. It's out at xmas 2015 (limited)
2. It uses Steam VR which is an existing VR software platform and is integrated into the Steam store already
3. Elite Dangerous could end up running on a Vive before it runs on the oculus (speculation, but bear in mind FD haven't confirmed oculus support at launch yet)
4. Steam VR (therefore Vive) is OS X and Linux compatible whereas oculus dumped development on other platforms to concentrate on the PC.

Ah, that's good to know about Rift support; i was starting to think they had abandoned it!!
Also worth mentioning:
5. Rumor is that the Vive is a slightly "higher end" device than Oculus Rift. Perhaps more expensive as well, but that may not matter so much for some people.
Oculus will be getting full support, I think it's just that the 0.7 update with Direct monitor mode only broke the way elite rendered to screen. It's interesting as I don't know how the Vive does that - does it do direct or do you have to run in extended mode?
You have to remember that the Rift is still a dev kit... just one that was sold openly unlike the Vive. They both seem to have strengths and weaknesses.
The new Oculus VR Script that is coming out soon is apparently incredible and easy to integrate. Well it is John Carmack designed.
The Vive looks to be out pre christmas and the Rift in the spring.
My main concern is can buy the Vive and run my non Steam bought E?
To be fair, vive seems slightly more resolved then oculus and uses existing and finished tech that isn't still in development unlike Oculus.
I understand why people are annoyed, but it isn't really Elite that is to blame that Oculus made a radical shift in their stuff.
There's a few posts about it about the forum and note I said annoyedWho's annoyed? It's still working for me? Just don't update the Oculus Runtime to 0.7 - Oculus is a Dev Kit and is still working.
How can vive seem more resolved? Hardly anyone has used it yet and I am fairly sure no one would say any of it is Finished!
I'll certainly be getting both. I've got both Rifts and a Cast AR too as I'm Dev'ing for them but yet to try the Vive.
