Still dreaming of ship interiors

I’m just mentioning that I had another dream last night with myself checking out the ship from the inside and outside after docking at a space station.

My subconscious was inspired I guess by a video montage of c64 games that one could spend hours playing and elite (and exile) were in the list.
They aren’t that common but ship interiors are one of the few regular re-occurring dreams that I have.

just had to share with the only people who might actually care :)
I did this whislt playing X4 just last night...kinda bare bones ship interiort, but, better than nothing. \o/

I understand that ship interiors would be a massive design undertaking that would "steal" time from other, more necessary, game features. But I'm sure it would add to the immersion of the game. I'd really like to explore my ship, visit my cargo bay, even climb into the SLF and launch from there.

Obviously, a feature like this could grow old fast, so what I propose is release them for one ship only, initially, as ARX purchasable livery material. The Anaconda is the perfect candidate for this, as it's already the only ship with damage model.

This in turn could unlock new kinds of missions and options for the players, like ship repairing, interaction with your passengers, etc. The possibilities are many.

So, if sales are good and the time invested is considered worth the effort, FDev could choose to invest in more of those internals for more ships.

The ships were designed with that in mind, so it could be implemented later. It's just going to be a lot later.
I used to believe that, until I started poking around in VR. I think this actually was the case until SRVs were introduced. The SRV bay just doesn't fit properly on ships like the Sidewinder and Viper. For example, the bay used to come up through the floor on the Sidewinder, until they finally fixed it by pushing it down, but last I checked (maybe Odyssey fixed this?) the bay protruded awkwardly through the bottom of the Sidewinder, not at all a good fit.

IIRC, many small ships had a different (and arguably better) design before SRVs were shoved into every one of them. I will grant you that the effect of this will be minimal on a ship like the Anaconda, but that ship has it's own issues, like hallways designed for cats rather than average-height humans.

And yes, I've seen the fan art for the Sidewinder interior, and it's epic. I'm really impressed with what that artist pulled off, and it does show Frontier could do it, but that art doesn't scale with the reality I've seen in the game itself. I'd be curious what concessions the artist had to make, like did he have to shrink the SRV or the bay? Also, does that ship the extra module slots added, or was it made before then?

Speaking of module slots, I can't wait to see the sentient mainframe that is the size 7 limpet controller :p

Additionally, a whole bunch of new ships have been added since the 'designed with interiors in mind' statement was made, and there's no guarantee that this was applied to those ships.

Be careful: We (some) players asked for FC interiors. Now we got FC interiors. – hmm. Yes now I can run around my carrier. +++STOP+++ (Actually there's a little more but to me it's just a nice backdrop) Be would better have asked: Give us new, engaging and interesting gameplay, building on the interior of FCs and expanding the existing game seamlessly. Even better if we would send them a wonderful game-design to implement.

(By the way: What did I pay for? Ahhh, yet nice paint jobs)

The video where he goes from outside to inside and walks around three rooms?

There's also the Anaconda interior on VR Chat.

Ship interiors don't require instant gameplay. That's just parroting frontiers words over the years.
Customisable interiors via ARX will go a long way to cover the dev costs?
Ship interiors will add immersion, believability and depth, making the overall game more interesting and captivating to play.
I understand fdev appear to not enable Cmdrs to move around vessels, for technical reasons when in motion and that's ok.
...I wonder if one ship was given the full interior treatment, how popular that ship would become. even a sidewinder?

As long as the teleport function is there, as in Ship Interiors being an option , I am all for Ship Interiors. And someone else mentioned a teleport button to skip running from the hangar to the concourse I am also for. That is one of the most boring part of Odyssey on-foot related activites. But I am all for options here to give as many players as possible to play the game the way they want.

any argument against the interior of ships will always be stupid.
As long as it is an option for us that do not want it.

EDIT: I do not want ED to become SC in a forced way. As long as FDEV makes things like this an option, I am 100% behind ship interiors.
