With a brand new, decent quality, PCVR capable headset costing less than most good HOTAS setups, we could assume it's actually a higher population than you could assume.I'm sure it's a profitability thing...
(How many users have VR headsets?)
Keep supporting the game, and maybe it will get added one day?
I hope to see you in the black Cmdr! o7
PS - You made a new account just to say this!?
Its been so long since I've even considered it...I can't believe these pricesWith a brand new, decent quality, PCVR capable headset costing less than most good HOTAS setups, we could assume it's actually a higher population than you could assume.
The quest 2 was only $200 refurbished at several points.
The quest 3 S is $300 brand new. (These have better resolution than the aging valve index has now too)
A good PCVR link cable is only around $12 usd.
Virtual desktop is only $15 usd if you want a pure wireless experience and have a bridge or good wifi.
VR has become much more accessible than when Elite first launched.
I tried it the other day with my Quest 3+ virtual desktop and easily pulled 90+ fps in a busy as hell station albeit with some bitrate issues due to the amount of activity on screen. It'd probably work just fine. I'm running a regular 3070. You'd definitely get better performance than I had.Its been so long since I've even considered it...I can't believe these prices
I didn't even think about it when built a new PC a few years ago... is a 3070Ti sufficient?
ED:O and my VR setup disagree with you that it's not supported. It's amazing. What a great experience you delivered to us VR users when this game came out. Just add the $#%^ VR support for Odyssey, and take my money please.
I'm going to be pedantic once again but VR is supported by Odyssey and always has been, including active support by the FDev to fix bugs (they may not be as far as some would like but they do). What a great experience you delivered to us VR users when this game came out. It's 'supported' in a way that apple supports Iphones from a decade ago and windows supports windows xp.I'm going to be pedantic once again but VR is supported by Odyssey and always has been, including active support by the FDev to fix bugs (they may not be as far as some would like but they do).
This allows Odyssey exclusive content such as atmospheric worlds and the Thargoid spire sites to be enjoyed in glorious VR.
What was not added was the additional VR on foot. That's very different from "not supporting".
Yes. But many posts incorrectly stating that Odyssey doesn't support VR leads to the incorrect assumption that there is no VR in Odyssey, a retrograde step from Horizons. It's 'supported' in a way that apple supports Iphones from a decade ago and windows supports windows xp.
Being forced from a 3d environment to playing on a flat screen in a void is not only jarring but can cause actual eye strain and motion sickness.

A trackball might help in this situation. This is what I use: ELECOM HUGE Trackball. So good that I bought another for a separate PC and I got one to use for work. For Elite I use the modifier buttons for my HOTAS in combination with it to do all my onfoot stuff including emotes etc. Trackballs take a bit to get used to but they're worth persevering with IMO.ED:O and my VR setup disagree with you that it's not supported. That said...on foot gameplay isn't strictly VR ready. You get a flat pancake screen in your VR headset. Not the end of the world, more so when I don't do much on foot stuff, but that's mainly because my VR flight seat rig can't fit a keyboard and mouse. Exo biology is doable controlling your Cmdr with a HOTAS, but a HOTAS setup isn't ideal for on foot combat imo.
If you're not buying ED:O because of this then you are seriously missing out and are cutting your nose off to spite your face.
That was likely due to the fact that Frontier didn't want to present Odyssey as being a VR supported title in the same way that one would expect it to be, which it is not. ie; with motion controllers, being able to interact with panels with touch etc.. The VR that is in Elite / Odyssey only really goes as far as they claim for Elite Dangerous. Frontier were initially going to completely drop VR support from the game but were convinced to leave it in there in the same format that was in Horizons. Which is exactly what is there, but obviously now with the Odyssey galaxy and extra planetary features (which are definite improvements) and the option to switch to onfoot pancake view without having to take your headset off, which could have been implemented with a bit more flair, for want of a better way to describe it.https://store.steampowered.com/app/359320/Elite_Dangerous/
It's not like one of the store pages is totally missing the "VR supported" seller tag entirely.
