Stop the grind, please!

IMHO, the best thing that ED can do for its players is to stop the grind and allow players to purchase upgrades over the counter. I'm 75 years old and have been trying to do the Guardian FSD booster for years, I'm too slow, perhaps I just need to find a younger player with better co-ordination and ask them to come over and do the job for me.

But honestly, the grind is not an enjoyable part of the ED experience and the sooner ED allow the player to purchase upgraded items the better.
As they have just recently done for the fargoid ......... item.
Cheers all

If you were complaining about grinding to get all of the guardian things I would tell you to stop grinding for grindings sake. Your just doing it to yourself.

However it appears that you're just trying to get one module? (And the essential one at that!). In which case, you only need to unlock the blueprint once, which is the opposite of grind. This is a skills based game. In which case, can I recommend the aerial photos of the sites which Greybeard Seawolf produced recently?

These map the sites and should tell you where all the pylons are that need shooting. The six minute timer resets with each pylon shot so as long as you know where they are then they should be easily reachable in that time.

The only element of grind in this is the other guardian mats. The 21 tech components in my opinion being the worst. The two sites documented for the module by greybeard seawolf each have 3 sites for the tech components, giving you a minimum of only 9 components (3 for each picked up). If you only visit one guardian site then realistically you'll have to relog back to the site twice more in order to gather the mats. That's grindy but realistically shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Well if Frontier reduces the grind a lot then it would be more fun and accessible for gamers. Purchasing in-game could also be an option, but not for every upgrade.

And practice runs (two or three) help teach where they are. Helpful if doing this the dark.

The grind is the game. If we're not improving our suits and ships to be able to acquire things faster and more efficiently in future, why are we doing it?

I'm 55 and have poor reflexes, the Guardian FSD module was pretty easy though, done it solo on all four of my CMDR accounts. I had help one time because someone wanted to see how it was done.

If you need some help doing the pylon minigame I'd be happy to help - I need to take a trip out there soon anyway. Same CMDR name as forum name - feel free to send me a PM on here or in game.

Also well worth trying to raise the pylons on foot, but you do need an SRV to get the blueprint itself. It's quite atmospheric and fun.

Personally I don't find it grindy, the grind would come if you go out and start relogging to unlock all of the guardian gear in one go.

Thankyou Cmdr Landgull, I will try it myself again first, I do appreciate the offer very much.

Another tip that helped me back in the day: Take a small ship to the site, with a point defense turret installed. Land as close as possible to the middle of the site. I used a DBX with the PD on the top-front.
When the flying death-bots start attacking, their missiles are the biggest issue. Your ship's PD will take care of most or all of the missiles.

It also helps to "visit" all the pylons without activating them. This will spawn the bots so you can dispatch them early. Once they're gone, activating the pylons will be much faster and easier.

(sorry about using "bots" so much, can't remember what they're called...)

They’re called Sentinels, but the name is a minor technicality since they are the only enemy to ever appear near a Guardian site.

Also, I recommend that you swap the pip configuration for the SRV(if you know how to) to 4 pips to systems while the Sentinels are firing their energy weapons. Especially useful if you are using the Scarab since its shield(and hull/chassis integrity) is a fair bit weaker. Will keep them alive unless 3-4 are shooting at you at the same time.

Slight OT, but I have to give respect for still playing when you’re 75.

Thanks for the reminder. I knew what they were called at one time, but my brain just wouldn't recall it.

Also, Kudos to the OP as well. I'm having trouble in my mid- 50's. Not sure if I'll be able to play complex games at all in 20 years.

I’d second this. Using a Point Defence, or even better several, can destroy all the sentinels missiles before they hit your SRV and knock it over. Like Fixitman, I use a DBX and fit PD on all the top utility points (one at the front and back, one on each wing,) It may be overkill but I don’t get hit by any missiles anymore.

There‘s a sweet spot a little to the right of the top of the ramp thing where you can land a small ship which I like to park at, it helps a methodical sweep around the site from one side to another as I raise all the pylons and destroy the sentinels that are near them. It also means my ship, and it’s missiles are nice and close when I’m trying to line up to drop the whatnot into the hole and the other sentinels arrive - I got so frustrated on my first trip as I was constantly knocked upside down when trying to park perfectly over the hole.

Two SRVs may help too if ammo/fuel/damage is a potential issue though extra SRVs and Point Defence does diminish the jump range if you’re not going by Carrier. They may help whilst you’re driving around and getting familiar with the general layout and specific locations of sentinels and pylons.

Finally, and apologies for this becoming quite a long post, don’t rush too much when the timers start after charging the first pylon. As you charge each one you get more time and if you avoid crashing and getting stuck you’ll have plenty of time to get around them all and boost jump gently up the ramp to drop the whatnot.

Dear Fixitman, what a great hint that is, never thought of doing that.

Rockhunter,
please, no need to apologize, I am most thankful to you and all others here, that have replied to my post offering help and much appricated advice. I'm in the black at the moment hunting biologicals, but, when I return I will outfit a DBX with PD and go get the job done. Once again thank you all. Cheers Cmdr D38.

hi gaffa im 72 and been playing quite a few years 10 in all lol, take a mate with you ie wing man me and my mate ran those pylons although i was the only one to collect, 07
