guys, the truth is that the button that will make you spend your real money ,is the button "buy ARX"(orange) ,not the store button(blue)🙃

Before this update, Frontier were actively advertising ship kits on the main menu screen.

Significant amounts of what was in the livery and holo-me menus linked to the store, so that entire corner of the station menu screen was a commercial by that standard.

Where were the forum wide protests then?
It's not about existence of the store. Even in game.
Marketing should be subtle- this option should be there when you might need it (why not Livery?), but never in your face. This remids me of cheap interenet advertisements.

The button is a button pusher for many.

The safety valves failed when they introduced an artificial currency. Frontier crossed a line with ARX. That's whats behind the noise.

It wasn't subtle before. A colour change doesn't change the fact that a significant area of the screen was previously devoted to cosmetics, which showed players purchasable items.

If you can't help pushing a button and buying things, that's a mental health issue that needs treatment.

The artificial currency was there from day one on consoles. So the protest is that things are fine so long as they don't impact PC players.

Meanwhile long term bugs that haven't been fixed as well as other issues are being drowned out because an icon is blue.

That's not an excuse that works for me.
If Elite was free to play model I would probably be more understanding (although I would not be playing then)
Sure, and that's fine. Cognitive dissonance is a thing, and humans are hardly rational when it comes to decisions of personal preference.

Usually I would agree, but this is not instant vs delayed ship transfers. Many people are in agreement that the icon should be orange or gone. Those who don't agree seem to be indifferent about it. So I see no harm in spending 5 minutes to switch the colour of an icon as long as it makes people happy.
That is true. I just wish people would choose a different way of trying to achieve this.

I can't believe your over the top reaction to it. Even if they get the colour changed, how will it affect your game, you don't care about all this trivial stuff?

You repeatedly don't care apparently.
You misunderstand. I am "over-the-top-reacting" not to the button or its colour or to the fact that people want it changed, but to this over the top reatcional thread.

And, many of us did not know about Frontier Points until this change.

I don't seriously think that Frontier is going to be changing the ARX model. They might change some graphics (like the store button), but the business model is probably going to stay. That is what many players, regardless of platform, are upset about.

MOVE THE STORE OUT OF THE GAME AND PUT IT IN THE MAIN MENU WHERE IT BELONGS!

Here are the problems with the current system:
  • Annoying UI disruption
  • Stores are located in ALL stations / outposts / megaships, even where there is no Livery to try out your new purchase.
  • Arx are earned and bought from the main menu, not in the game, so to get Arx, you need to leave the game anyway, so why bother having the store in the game?

Some fresh Avatar choices.
Thanks @Rubbernuke keep 'em coming

The business model was there from the moment they started selling cosmetics. Basically anyone who has bought anything cosmetic has contributed to Frontier deciding to try and make this easier to do. They may change the icon, they may not, but you're a few years late if you're complaining about the business model.

Until they introduced an artificial currency. That does change things.

I complained from day one, so not late!
I was complaining before Elite Dangerous was even kick-started actually just about the model in general and how it affects (in my opinion negatively) game development due to priority shifting.

I don't know. As long as it allows them to continually improve the game I am absolutely for it. The game is 5 years old and they still release big updates on a regular basis, this can't be done with the traditional expansion model. Before micro transactions were a thing companies created a game, maybe released an expansion or two and then went on with the next game. I really like playing a game for a decade, I think that's pretty awesome.

If people are complaining about the colour, then Frontier have done a good job as people are being attracted to it.

Personally think its a lot more convenient to try things out and buy stuff now. Previously you had to faff about a bit to get to buy anything.

I do wonder however if this is putting things in place for Elite to go to a free to play model sometime in the future.

Imagine if the "new era" coming next year is all about making elite a Fremium game. With game mechanics deliberately chosen for their ability to generate cash in a shop

You weren't complaining when frontier points became a thing (all is fine if it doesn't affect you, if that's your argument). Did you have a better way of handling multiple currencies in game?

Well that's gone well hasn't it. Maybe acknowledge that this is how things are. For profit company remember.

Again nothing has actually changed that wasn't there already apart from the colour blue.

Edit- hit post by mistake.
