Stuff fdev should add to live off it for a year.

We already have bases.

They're called Anacondas.

Once we have legs, interiors, and docking bays for smaller ships, Bobs your uncle.

nevermind
rant on selfish wishes (mixed up with "what people want") over

I think the FDTeam is right now working on much more important stuff.

Player owned invulnerable items is the last thing the game needs.
No , if they add storage in space let other players steal stuff , meaning players will need to find good hiding places

Personal bases? No thanks. The question of player ownership of things like that has already been done to death and it is not in keeping with the spirit of Elite - you're a lone pilot and this is not a game focused on players owning such large structures.
.
Personal storage in the form of in-game purchased or leased hangars or warehouses though? Yes please.

You are mistaken, mate. The lone pilot is an option, not a requirement. We have player based factions, even a competition to become a Power. We have Distant Worlds, Fuel Rats, Iridium Wing, Children of Raxxla, many other examples.

If you want to be a lone pilot, you can be, but don't expect to inflict your personal position on the entire community. There are valid reasons for player owned facilities such as exploration, research, etc.

Is it coming? No, FDev believes in their own enigmatic and downtrending Brabenvision(tm), not in what player base wants or cares or asks for.

You're right... Heaven forbid a company creates a product that people actually want.

Why do demand thread always have this kinda thinking in.
What you want is what all people want now is it?
And the Devs are sooo stuupud for not listening to you, somehow speak for everyone everywhere

When did I give you two my voice and proxy?

Why do they have to do what any self imposed voice of "Players" want

Let me try that

I, and by extension the entire player base, want the only Player ship in game to be the Hauler, when will FDev listen to what their player base wants, eh? eh?

Housing:
Private base, where you can store and showcase your ships on surface. Purchase skimmer/turret defense, purchase niceties, giant bobbleheads, beacons to run around racing near the base and stuff like that. Store stuff. All expensive and redundant, yet asked for. Source of real cash revenue for extra cute architecture.

Somewhere to show off my ships. My own garage. I like that idea. And yes, give us something to do there as well, go on runs to gather resources to stock it, arm it, defend it. Maybe you even have to fight off some NPCs attacking your base now and then. Have peeps over to visit and help you out.

Wildstar gives you a chunk of land to play with, build some things on, spend money on in their store to get things that you can place at your home. I would rather have some game play activities associated with it though, which is why I've never messed with my Wildstar home. There was nothing to do but decorate.

Someone else mentioned Second Life. That is the epitome of building on your own personal land (for a price) and unlimited inventory (for free). Braben could have a small subscription fee (to pay for business costs) if people want to build. It could be your own mini-game within the ED universe. Especially for those who dont like people. :) Another hook to reel in players.

P.S. I dont think FD MUST DO THIS RIGHT NOW! But I like the idea of more game play in the form of a personal base. It could be located in hyperspace or a system that only you could enter if you were the owner. It could be password protected for your friends to enter as well.

Some like the private base idea. Some dont. That's ok. I hope Braben expands his game according to what makes him the most money. It may not be what you want or I want or necessarily part of his original vision for the game. But hopefully the game goes in the direction of what the majority wants. I doubt Braben is worried about database expansion issues if the money rolls in to pay for it.

I gave FD something like $100 for the two games combined (ED and 2.0).
*They* chose to get all server based despite original promises to do otherwise. They said they had to because of issues like galaxy size... but then they also chose to store my cmdr info on their server.

Google gives me 15GB of space for nothing. How much space do you imagine my hangar will take up? How will it vastly exceed the storage space taken up by my stored ships already?

The "data footprint" argument is a lie. They could store it on an entirely different set of servers and load client-side if they were really desperate.

Comparing in any way FD to Google is a bit unfair, is it not [big grin]

Cheers Cmdr's

Could pay by in game credits be an option? Maybe also tied to maintaining a positive relationship with same so that could also work, or at least reduce costs to hold these goods?
Basically, it would cost a player for a faction or a power to hold their stuff? This would put a financial timer on it of sorts.
Some pre-requisites could be you need to be allied, needs to be paid every "x" amount of time passed in game or lose it, no refunds.
If a player fails to keep up payments or loses interest in that faction then all stored is forfeit.

Just an general idea.

id rather have a capital/cruiser ship that can carry a small fleet around and have around 1000 commodity storage (for engineers)

4 large pads, 2 large 6 med pads, or 2 large and 8 small pads. you can choose the combo when you order it. you need to keep it stocked of materiel/commodities to repair, rearm, or refuel or keep the cap ship traveling.

also would like the ability to transfer fuel to it via ship for example i have a t9 with a fuel scoop and only fuel tanks i finish scooping and take the fuelur to the mother ship and transfer however much to it after docked. only you or winged members can drop and repair, rearm or refuel.

you can move it around in system but it will always jump around 100-500 ly away from the target and it only uses witch space to move.

jump range could be 12ly or up to 20 depending on how much you want to spend getting hydrogen fuel or time fuel scooping.

As someone who jumped into the ED world a bit earlier than this last year & therefore missed the original design discussions, I can't imagine how frustrating it is to see the game progress the way it has.

Engineers, CQC, Powerplay & Wings were all the icing on a cake that didn't exist yet. They were little side-attractions for a bigger game, but FD has not finished such basic aspects as combat, UI, server operation & multiplayer missions (for their multiplayer game. Remember folks, there are still no multiplayer activities aside from, arguably, the CGs).

I can't imagine what possessed FD to do things in the order they're doing them, but I have a suspicion it was "It'll be hard to make the game work before we charge for more content".
