Stuff made hard that *should* be easy...

Anyone been watching Star Trek: Discovery? They have little drones that go out and re-paint the hull decoration without the need for a spacedock. I'd like some of those, please. I'd even be prepared to sit idle in normal space for a few minutes watching them do their thing on the external camera. Better still if they had their own camera feeds...

I'd have to check the game to be certain but I'm reasonably sure that the direct Livery option is greyed out if the Outfitting is unavailable.

I agree about skins and names/nameplates though. I understand FD's desire to keep many game elements believable (even if other parts of the game are living in la-la land) but when you're dealing with things that cost real-world money I don't think there should be any limits on where you can apply them.

Aside from anything else, isn't this policy hurting FD's coffers? Long-range explorers who are thousands of ly into the deep and who know about the Outfitting limitation aren't going to buy any skins, kits or nameplates. And those who don't know about the limitation are only going to do it once before tearing their hair out in realisation. Maybe FD have looked at the metrics and there really aren't that many full-time explorers out there, but even if the numbers are small they're still potentially turning down a free source of revenue. I just don't understand it.

Exactly this - I've *not* bought bobble heads, simply because I'm a few weeks into a near year long trip, and if I can't put it in my ship, why bother? By next year, I'll be over it...

Engine/laser colours as well. If I've bought 5 thruster colours, let me swap them at any times. I've paid, it won't stop anyone from ganking me, NPC's won.t suddenly be powerless in my presence... It's just a different colour thruster... I can flick between standard and one selected colour, why not let me loop through all the ones I've bought?

By the way, I'm not mad or whatever, just one of those things that has been nagging me for a few years now, and finally had it on my mind when I was actually online and able to post...

Also, why does Chrome insist the "colour" and "thruster" are spelled incorrectly? Hhhmmm...

The button is greyed out when no outfitting is present.

Yeah, I thought so. I wanted to change my skin at Station X (think) a while back, and couldn't, due to lack of outfitting for some reason or another. Was very annoyed, it's a long way back to the bubble from there.

Probably because its spell checker is set to United States English. Assuming you are on a desktop of somekind open the menu then open setting settings, expand advanced, find languages.. Expand Language and add the flavour of English of your choice, then expand the Spell Check tab deactivate English (United States) and activate you new flavour.. That should sort it out, probably.

Meanwhile I think ship livery should be on a ships interface menu item like Holo-me is for all internal ship stuff, skins and probably weapon & engine colours (though maybe not kits)..

Bit of a rant, just because, well, I do sometimes wonder at some decisions.

Skins - why can’t I get a skin change at *any* station? Regardless of whether it offers outfitting or not? There is no in game benefit apart from changing the colour of the ship. I’ve, more than once, I had to fly hundreds of light years simply to change a skin, becaause someone UA bombed a sation, or the station has no outfitting.

Really, if I can dock, I should be able to change my skin. I paid extra for the skins, let me use them easily, please.

SLF skins - if I can print a new SLF, surely, I can print it with a new (again, paid for) skin? Just sayin’.

Bobble heads - do I *really* need a mechanic that fits FSD’s and thrusters to attach a bobble head to my dash? If I’ve bought it, let me attach it any time, anywhere.

I’m not asking for this stuff to be top priority or anything, but just something to consider fixing over time, because, well, I suspect people would be more inclined to buy stuff they can actually more easily use.

The thing that gets to me with skins is that if my paint job was 0%, they could respray the whole thing as a repair. But paint a different one, no sorry we can’t do that.

Logically they can only respray if they had the equipment and templates to spray in the first place so this makes no sense other than as an artificial game mechanic classing a new paint job as outfitting and existing as repair. It should be available wherever repair exists to do a new paint job.

No repair or outfitting I’m fine for it not being although as it is something people pay for that isn’t much of a sales incentive.

UA bombing though, well tough luck I say. It’s annoying when the station you are trying to use has facilities unavailable no matter the cause, but as they are player driven problems which can be countered that’s life.

How about the whole outfitting process and having to sit through those flipping animations a 1000 times over.

Oh so the button is only there to be accidentally clicked and force the player to go into outfitting (unless you hit esc to cancel, but that's not documented anywhere of course)? Figures. I was just giving the devs the benefit of the doubt and assuming that they didn't introduce a completely redundant button onto the main screen.
