stupid ? maybe

can anyone tell me why and how this is happening.
if i interdict npc or cmdr. i have to wait 10 to 15 secs for things to appear.

i have just been interdicted by a cmdr and he was within ramming range instantly/ firing weapons.
yes i lost the battle my shields lasted less than 4 secs then engines had gone ofline. nothing to do..but explode:(

If it was just players I would say networking. But that wouldn't affect NPCs unless you were in another player's instance, which you shouldn't be if you have just interdicted an NPC.

Someone recently was complaining about not being able to log in. Maybe galactic updates are playing heck with the instancing synch.

Given the symmetry (given you're always seeing one side of it), it looks like the oppo is there and shooting while you're still trying to get the assets and synch to the instance.

i have 200MB connection. do you think it maybe my network or frontiers?

i have noticed this issue for quite some time.

It doesn't particularly matter at the moment. Just lag would do it, bandwidth would be irrelevant if the server can't set up the IP connection, package the assets, let your client know, and at that point it matters how fat your internet pipe is. Until then, it's how chatty and lossy (TCP re-sends lost packets, and it can also back off if too many fail.Congestion canalso happen in the backbone connection).

There's just no way of telling. If it's still crook in 15 minutes, raise a ticket with this time and the next (along with the server connection) and snooze.

i have repeatedly reported and i still have not recieved any info from devs

thnx anyhow. i will reqest support again!

Does Windows come with Ping? I'd use that then traceroute on quick mode to see if there's an issue. It's in Ireland, but I would expect that because FD is in the UK and use Amazon cloud services IIRC.

But the IP address works fine here. So if you're outside the UK, that may be the problem. Or if the service is wonky, that won't affect the cloud server, only the access to port 5100.

If you're trying to ping the Amazon servers, you can't. Try this: http://www.cloudping.info/ It will tell you your latency to the different cloud servers.

Regarding your issue, whenever I drop into a USS, I always have to wait 10 to 15 seconds for the content to spawn. I would say about 90% of the time when I am interdicted by an NPC, I have to wait 10 to 15 seconds for it to turn up, the other 10% of the time it will arrive almost instantly. There's some very strange networking going on... :)

You're welcome.

It's likely not your network connection, mine is pretty good (22ms to local cloud servers in the US), and like I said, I have to wait for the content to spawn at least 90% of the time. And I play in solo, so no waiting for other players to connect.

less than 200 for america quite fast for the distance :)

I used ip-find.net.

Because the biggest problem would be where you're tring to connect being a long way away.

Though if you're going to connect with another player in Australia, you'd nee to find them too....

My understanding (from conversations with support), is that ED uses servers distributed around the world, not just in Ireland or Europe, so I would assume that I am connecting to servers in the US (where I live). If I'm not, and I will have a look at the IP addresses I connect to, then that is poor matchmaking on the part of ED / Amazon. That said, unless I'm connecting to a server in India, all my ping times are <200Ms, which I believe is quite good enough to play the game.

As I said in my post above, I don't connect with other players, I'm a solitary sort of spaceman... :)

Aye, but if you in the USA join an instance where someone from France is joining in, then you two have to meet.

Unless it's all regionalised and you'll not see someone outside your approximate geographical location, which is nothing I've heard of. It might make sense from a logistics point of view, but not necessarily from the gameplay point of view. Doubly so for XB owners.

(EDIT: thread owner is PvPing, so a possible problem for the connection with commanders in the instance)
