Stutter with Windows Defender

When playing ED, after a while Windows Defender on Windows 10 starts to munch away about 25% of my CPU performance. I only observed this when running ED (with CV1, have to find out for desktop playing). This results in funny stuttering, makes one feel like on a bad, bad Onion Head trip. Basically, one can deactivate Windows Defender, which works well if you like your windows to cease defending you. You can do this in the Defender real-time protection settings (but it's reactivated upon reboot) or permanently by some more drastical measures. Just as a tip.

See also Microsoft Q&A page.

If you know a way to deal with this without disabling Defender, share your wisdom...

running avast and avira doesn't introduce any more stutter than there already is (at least for me). Maybe try one of those?

Pretty much anything you install would be better than Windows Defender.

Except for anything made by Norton. Their stuff is crap.
