Subnautica

^^^

This, though be careful with the camera drones. Stalkers like to steal them!

My new Hardcore game has just dealt with the Aurora's drive core, my main base finally has a scanner room, and I'm getting ready to check the first officer's life pod. Finally, I'm getting ready to lay out the first ring of sensor bases. I didn't realize until late last game what a wonderful device they were, so they were placed a bit haphazardly. This time, I've got a plan that should cover the entire caldera. ;)

Speaking of wonderful devices, I just discovered how easy it is to catch fish with the propulsion cannon. Once I "discover" the floating island, this save's diet will be much more varied than the last one. Eating nothing but marblemelon can't be good for you. ;)

Let the stalkers take your drones, then follow the drone beacon and pinch drone, stalker teeth and it's metal stash all in one !!!.

I did scanner first this time round, it makes life much easier in hardcore. The hard part was grabbing the one bit of magnetite from the lower jelly cave I needed for a hud chip with just a standard tank. I found it with a drone then dove to the drone and back up. Once you have that everything's easy, precision strikes via sea-glide no messing about.

I'm just setting a scan room up right next to the aurora to see what goodies/internal compartments I've missed.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Thanks for all the tips! I can't wait to try out some of this stuff. :D

Stigbob, sounds like you have it all dialed in. Personally, I lack organization. One thing is for sure, this game has a lot of interesting and somewhat complex mechanics that elevate it far and above generic "tree puncher" as one guy sneeringly posted earlier.

Expedition prep is half the fun (for me).

In the case of Subnautica, prep is actually ALL the fun for me. Once the expedition is underway, it's usually scary, stressful and ends by a "quick-travel" back to the pod. :D

Give hardcore mode a bash the predators become much more scary, and you can't just drown along the way to see how many tanks you need.

I actually did manage to complete the game on survival without dying on my second playthrough, so technically I could do it. But the hardcore mode? Nah. It kind of crosses the line between fun challenge and unnecessary frustration for me.

Too much risk for my blood. I'm care-bearing my way through this game like a motor finger.

Block the leviathans, being a carnivore is a legit gaming choice, ruining the sparse reef etc .

It's the panic of zero'd progress and living with the outcome of bad decisions I enjoy, but I can see why people wouldn't like it.

I started playing Hardcore so I wouldn't spoil the end of the game until it was released. Now, it's just part of the fun. Any game plays very different when death is permanent, and there's no reloading from a save if you screw up royally. But I can understand why its not for everyone. Different people are different. I mean, some people simply don't like golf. Madness. ;)

Yes, I can understand the appeal for some. It's just that I know myself. I would be stressed out, I would make mistakes and I would get angry with myself. :D
I WILL try the hardcore mode eventually. I've played through the game three times already (Although the first one wasn't a real playthrough, just a creative mode to get familiar with everything) so I will be needing something to spice it up really soon, I think.

14 lava larvae stuck to my cyclops at once. Power holding steady over a vent with thermal generator, I think I'll keep them.

I don't think I've ever had more than five of them latched to the cyclops. They really like yours, I guess. :)

With thermal power converter for the cyclops I could see it wasn't dropping, so every time I saw one I slowed down to see if it would attach. They seem to be attracted to cavitation, they swim towards you if you switch the engine to flank speed. With 13 and the engine ticking over near a vent power stayed at 100%, 14 and it suddenly started dropping fast.

They are more of a problem on the prawn mostly because you can't see.

18 this time, with screen shot.
