Sufficient Amount of Felines?

This is a hot take, but I feel like we have more than enough Felines at this point. I like Felines, they're among my favorite of families, but I would be completely fine without adding in anymore. With the Caracal, we'll now have 11 if my count is right. We have some smaller cats in addition to the larger cats. They span all the biomes they're naturally found in as well as all the continents they're naturally found in. I realize the Sand Cat, Pallas Cat and Ocelot are requested...but where we stand now...what are people's takes on whether we need them or not?

I absolutely would love for there to be more small cats. To me, a small cat exhibit has a completely different feel than that of the larger species. I would say the Ocelot, Serval, and Pallas's cat are essential, and I would also welcome the sand cat, Asian golden cat, fishing cat, bobcat, and something else from South America (Pampas, Andean, or Jaguarundi) if we get a few more years of support. I guess the number depends on how many animals we get. I guess I would want about 2 for every 25 animals until we get 6-8, and then I wouldn't care so much.

I think the game is pretty much done with "Big Cats". However id like another small cat or two, because those are whats kinda missing in the game, even the upcoming caracal is more of a medium sized species to me. I think the margay and pallas cat would be good picks for potential Rainforest and Highlands/Mountain Pack respectively.

I'm equally fed up with canines and felines
.
3 out of 4 animal packs had both. And only two packs in total had no cat or dog.

I can somewhat understand the want for a small cat like the Pallas' or Sandcat, but I don't see the need to add it anytime soon.
I really don't hope to see more canines.

Getting the Maned Wolf is no surprise, but getting it just after the red fox, made it feel like a less interesting inclusion. The Maned Wolf should have been instead of the fox in the twilight pack IMO, making room for a monkey or another bird in the Grasslands
.
The caracal I can use, but I don't care much about it either. Maybe animals like these are just somewhat important for the average player. I have seen a lot of positive responses to it at least.

I am mentally prepared to see the Raccoon Dog show up one day. That feels like an animal that Frontier just can't ignore. For me it is just a wasted spot.
Especially when the number of much more diverse groups like birds and monkeys is so low.

I know animal roster preferences are completely subjective and I'm speaking only my opinion, but I've had my fill of felines and canids for the duration of the game's life support.
I could stomach a smaller cat like an ocelot, but honestly I don't think there really are any reasonable canids left.
If Frontier gave me the keys, going forward I'd focus on primates, rodents, mustelids, marsupials, habitat reptiles like larger turtles and crocodilians, very select hoofstock (that's a whole other thread) and I know the community may issue a gag rule soon on the subject, but YES, birds.

I'm fine with not getting any more cats personally. My most wanted remaining cat was the serval because I needed a small cat that was kept locally, but the caracal is also perfectly acceptable for filling that niche in my zoos (also kept locally, just a little rarer). Despite being much more of a canid fan than a cat fan I'd also be happy getting no more canids going forward now that the maned wolf was finally added.

While I wouldn't mind getting another smaller cat like the Ocelot or Pallas's Cat, I'm perfectly content with the cat lineup we have right now, especially since we're getting the Caracal.

Ocelot and fishing cat are must haves, and the serval isn't far behind that. Pallas cat is a fun choice too, and I'd also like to see a smaller cat like the sand cat or black-footed cat. So personally, I'm always eager for more cats.

For canids, I'm obviously a huge tanuki supporter, and beyond that I'd be okay with the bush dog, bat-eared fox, or black-backed jackal, but at the same time if we somehow never got another canid (which isn't super likely, even if we only get another pack) I'd be fine. Can't say the same for cats.

Ocelot is a must have for me.

Other than that the only other small cats i would like to get are the fishing cat, the manul, sand cat and serval, but if we don't ever get them as part of the official roster i'll be fine with it (although i would like to see Frontier's work on the manul)

I would still like to see Serval and Ocelot, but the Serval’s chance to be included just got a big slimmer. I would think it would fit into grasslands better than the Caracal (which would also fit deserts pack) so I don’t have high hopes of its inclusion anymore. Ocelot might still appear in a Rainforest pack, so there is that.

Why? Genuine question, are they that popular?
With dogs in over half the packs, their always seem to be at least 50% chance for a dog to show up in a DLC.

After the Maned Wolf, the tanuki (Japanese Raccoon Dog) is the one I see mentioned most often, and Frontier seem to have soft spot for small temperate/cold climate carnivores.

Unless it comes in an island pack, I would guess they went for the mainland species, since it way more common in captivity.

So it just feels likely to me.
