[Suggestion] Change CQC rank to a general PvP rank

A simple one really, why not change the red CQC rank to a general PvP rank that also progresses in the main game as well as CQC? CQC already has it's own self-contained level-rank system, does it really need two?

It would be a great way to make this rank bar relevant again and be a nice change for duelers, PvP bounty hunters and Powerplayers.

My suggestion would be that only legit kills would count towards the rank, so that would include;

  • Killing a wanted player
  • Killing a Powerplay enemy
  • Killing a player with crimes off (duel)
  • Killing a player who attacked you first
  • CQC kills

The usual kill-rank modifiers could be used, much like how the combat rank system works now (more progression for higher ranks etc..).

I would also suggest that all main player ranks be shown on the scan UI after performing an identification scan, as currently most rank information about other players is hidden away for some reason.

So on the identification scan UI of another palyer, there would be:
  • Combat rank
  • Trade rank
  • Exploration rank
  • PvP rank (perhaps a name like 'Ace' or 'Duel' would work better?)
  • Federation rank
  • Empire rank
  • Powerplay rank

Really like this bit. Maybe not all on the HUD but viewable somewhere like the contact information on the left panel. Or atleast display the highest rank so that traders and explorers can still be shown for their eliteness. After all if you're a pirate, wouldn't you want the contents of an Elite traders hold than a penniless one.

I'm not certain of this bit though. I'm an odd one that is actually playing CQC (or trying to) but I do agree that it's odd how it has two ranking systems and the in-game really doesn't mean much. Obviously it does to some (me) so like you said it couldn't be replaced by a PvP rank, more integrated. This brings the problem though that an Elite CQC player is gonna look like the ultimate PvP hero but they might actually suck behind the joystick of a ferdie.

Yeah, not a good idea on the HUD info, but on the detailed menu on the left.. I agree.

I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect someone who has gotten to Elite in CQC to know how to fight in the main game. Also, I think that the amount of Elite CQC/main-game PvP noobs would be low enough to not be a problem.
 
Skill in CQC and "open" PVP are very different. They should be separate ranks. PVP fights in the main game, additionally, are more decided by your ship and loadout than piloting skill, it's just how it's designed. The opposite of CQC.

Also cumulative ranks like what are used in Elite are not going to be much indicative of actual skill anyway. They should use an Elo style system that adjusts your rating both up and down based on wins and losses and the relative skill of your opponents and sorts people into a bell curve, before it would be useful for assessing skill.
 
Cleaver idea but I think we should keep CQC rank for CQC and drop it from the main game ranks as it serves no purpose there.

For those that don't PVP (for example without PSN/XBL) it would be an unachievable rank that be a smear on their stats just like the CQC rank is now.
 
As I've mentioned, CQC already has its own ranking system (within CQC itself).. PvP should have some acknowledgement of achievement or indicator of ability.

To those who don't PvP, well.. as you were I guess. None of the ranks are mandatory (I do not like exploration for example, but the rank for it doesn't bother me).
