Suggestions to improve my mining python (New player)

Here is my mining Python build. This one is supposed to be equally capable of core and laser mining.
I suggest that the OP build doesn't have enough collector limpets and those will probably be the thing which causes delays.

3 collector limpets is fine for me, i often let them do their thing whilst im doing something else. Thats why i like the docking computer too.

Make sure the prospector limpet controller is A rated as that will maximise the number of fragments the roid will release (E rated around 10 - 12, A rated 40 - 42), collector rating varies lifetime and range (mass too but that can be adjusted via engineering)

I'm still learning mining so this is a nice thread for me.

First thing I learned is to take plenty of limpets. Since I'm new to it, I'm still morphing how I mine. Atm, I like taking every tool in the shop; abrasion blaster, seismic blaster, PWA, and 2 C2 lasers. I'm not real fast so 2 C3A collector controllers is working OK but next time out I will try a 3rd to speed up collection.

Yes, stock up on limpets, i carry 90 limpets out of 192 cargo space

Docking puter in a python? Pure unbridled heracy ... to be fair i always loved throttling down and letting the system take over but back in the days of its earlier iterations it was more likely to faceplant my trade cutter into the station. Ah the memories of that panic moment when you realised the docking computer was actively trying to kill you.

Oh... mine until the refinery is clogged up and you get "resources unallocated". When you sell the cargo, the refinery will empty a few more tons into the cargo bay and you can sell those too. To completely fill up takes careful management of the last few limpets.

TBH I'm not sure the prospector rating makes a difference with void opals either, although I suspect the pulse wave scanner may behave in a similar fashion (a wingmate appeared to be getting up to 18T with an A rated whereas I was struggling to get more than 14T with a lower rated one, certainly worth considering).

When you're mining, you don't need big heavy shields, neither do you need a 7a power plant. You can go down to a 5C or 4C bi-weave shield with a single booster. That will allow you more cargo space. I don't see the point of equipping the ship for both core and surface mining. All that does is compromise your ship for either activity, though that doesn't matter if you're not interested in optimising your earning rate. Don't carry weapons and don't try to fight pirates. Just run away from them.

Painite Python (T7 is better) without engineering

VO Python without engineering - 2 seismic chargers for the extra ammo with one switched off.

Er you don't need 2x 2B seismic charge launchers 1 will do even when missing every other shot you won't run out before the python is full...
The time is taken finding and fly two rocks and then waiting for collection with limpet collectors...
If you can find a system with a station in it, leave the fuel scoop behind at the station then add another A build limpet controller...
You have about 15 items to collect each rock, 1 limpet controller is going to take double the time...
Maybe replace the second seismic charge with a mining laser for painite as well as core mining. I hear it's slot faster than void opals and just as profitable

One seismic launcher, two abrasion blasters.

I've tested most of the viable mining ships. Python, both Kraits, etc. Loved the AspX, mainly for the great vision.

I've now found that the Orca is amazing at core mining. 642 m/s boost, great vision, 6 collector limpets, 2 prospectors. No guns, speed beats all pirates. Only 100t cargo, but that's my patience limit 😁. I reckon I've shaved about 15% of time from each mining trip! Winning!

For short DC mining trips I use an Alliance challenger, I manually scoop the frags as you lose a lot of limpets "inside" the cracked roid and the Challenger has great low speed agility, the centralised hardpoint location is great for placing the charges and blasting off the surface deposits.
With it's wide range of hardpoints you can have a decent combat capability and a great VO miner (around 100 mil/trip)

Wouldn’t bother much with weapons, either.

While your ship is much more solid than most(for a new player, anyway), it’s not something I’d want to take into a fight.

Escape should be your priority, especially when carrying valuable cargo.
