DLC18 discussion and predictions

This would be such a fun DLC and update! Only thing to say is that I don't think they could change the exhibit type for any animals (e.g., iguanas in bigger) as being ONLY in the new type because then it would mess with existing maps. They'd just have to add it as an option (which, honestly, would be kinda nice and offer even more flexibility).

The one thing I'd want that's not included here is a non-WTE type habitat for birds of prey. But I don't think that's really the point of your idea. Haha.
Thanks!

I did have an idea for a mega WTE, I was debating adding it onto the dlc as it was already so bloated. I can give a quick rundown here:

Mega WTE
  • would be about 2-3X-Larger than the current WTE
  • Main feature is the main pathway has to be a “covered” pathway. The pathway can also be an elevated platform, or removed entirely. So that way you can add some variation to how you build it/ how guests see the animals.
  • The Mega WTE is also expected to be chainlinked or meshed. (Honestly this can be removed as a feature, but considering the animals it houses you wouldn’t put this in some indoor inclosure/ open concept inclosure)
  • The mega WTE features the largest birds of prey, the Andean Condor, California Condor, Golden Eagle, Bald Eagle, Harpy Eagle, Eurasian Eagle Owl, Snowy Owl, Great Grey Owl, King Vulture, Griffon Vulture, and Bearded Vulture.
  • The size of the mega WTE allows for more customization, and the exhibit can be set to different depths. Unlike normal WTE you can have this one be deeper and contain more foliage. For those of you who visited it, think of Franklin Park Zoo’s condor habitat. It’s like something from Jurassic Park!
  • Using educators, birds in WTE and MWTE can be used in bird shows.
I was originally gonna add it, but the dlc idea was getting bloated. This would also require them to make a 100% brand new WTE when the current one is already underutilized. But I would absolutely love to get birds of prey!

Thanks!

Oh, this would be awesome! Per usual, I'd prefer habitat birds, but if this is how they'd be implemented? This would be the way to do it (thouggh having different s ize options would be kinda nice). And I love the concept of bbeing able to put in elevated platforms, etc. That would definitely make it more interesting!

And I love your idea of the "walk-through" birds of prey option being covered a la the Franklin Park (my local zoo!) condor enclosure is great.

Another thought/idea: Being able to add water features in a few different spots or angles. Just something to spice it up, hah. The animals wouldn't necessarily need to interact with them even but it would be a fun way to help things feel more "natural" and variable.

That was kind of something I was thinking with the MWTE, due to its size, and ability to use raised platforms. Water features can be added! So you can implement more natural terrain, water, and foliage than you ever could with the normal WTE.

While the normal WTE would be perfect for smaller species/ builds, the MWTE would be for people who want more customization and larger species.

African Adventure Animal Pack
  • Grévy’s Zebra (EN)
  • Diana Monkey (EN)
  • African Leopard (VU)
  • Giant Eland (VU)
  • West African Giraffe (VU)
  • Honey Badger (LC)
  • Helmeted Guineafowl (LC)
  • Giant Girdled Lizard (VU) [exhibit] OR Naked Mole-rat (LC) [exhibit]

I love how you add the conservation statuses of the species you nominate! If you don't mind, I'd like to use this set-up going forward for my lists.

Now...I have THREE DLC Animal Pack ideas, but the one I'm most in favor for is a Latin America Animal Pack DLC (Personally, I was very disappointed on the small roster of animals from the original South America DLC. Out of the four exhibit animals selected, I felt the alpaca was a waste; while it originated in the Andes, it's a domesticated animal. They should've introduced a species that will be on my roster). I was also thinking of an African Safari Animal Pack or (a compromise between two) an Equatorial Animal Pack.

My Latin America Animal Pack DLC Idea:
  1. White-nosed coati [LC] (I feel this species should be used rather than the more popular South American coati because this species can be featured in more zoo sections; they can be featured in an American Southwest, Mexican, Central, or South American-inspired are of a zoo).
  2. Ocelot [LC]
  3. Greater rhea [NT]
  4. Red-legged seriema [LC]
  5. South American tapir [VU] (I do agree that another tapir should be added into the game. While most zoos frequently display the popular Baird's tapir, it's my understanding they do this more to emphasize their endangered status and as a conservation spotlight species.) ***
  6. Geoffroy's spider monkey [EN]
  7. Guianan squirrel monkey [LC]
  8. Andean bear [VU] (To complete the bear roster)
  9. Southern tamandua [LC]
  10. EXHIBIT ANIMAL: Macaws; I can see them go with the Blue and gold [LC], Green-winged [LC], Hyacinth [VU], Military [VU], and Scarlet [LC].***
The *** are an alternative animal. For the South American tapir, I can swap this out for either the Linnaeus's [LC] or Hoffmann's two-toed sloth [LC]. For the exhibit animal, I can see them going with hummingbirds (with the ruby-throated [LC], Anna's [LC], violet sabrewing [LC], sparking violetear [LC], and white-necked Jacobin [LC]) OR tamarins and marmosets (with the golden lion tamarin [EN], cotton-top tamarin [CR], common marmoset [LC], and white-headed marmoset [LC]).

My African Safari Animal Pack DLC Idea:
  1. Secretarybird [EN]
  2. Grévy's zebra [EN]
  3. Greater kudu [LC]
  4. Masai giraffe [EN]
  5. Impala [LC]
  6. Nile crocodile [LC]
  7. Hamadryas baboon [LC] ***
  8. Saddle-billed stork [LC] ***
  9. Great white pelican [LC] ***
  10. EXHIBIT ANIMAL: Common agama lizard [LC]
My alternatives for the stork would be either the white [LC] or marabou [LC]; for the pelican, the pink-backed [LC]. I would also be happy to see the East African grey crowned-crane [EN] added as well.

My Equatorial Animal Pack DLC Idea:
  1. Secretarybird [EN]
  2. Greater rhea [NT]
  3. Andean bear [VU]
  4. Grévy's zebra [EN]
  5. Guianan squirrel monkey [LC]
  6. Mantled guereza [LC]
  7. Sumatran tiger [EN]
  8. Nile crocodile [LC]
  9. Southern tamandua [LC]
  10. Red-flanked duiker [LC]
NOTE: As much as I agree that we should have the blackbuck in the game to get some more Indian hoofstock, India doesn't have the Equator passing through it. The countries that have the Equator going through it are - Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, São Tomé and Príncipe, Gabon, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, the Maldives, and Indonesia (specifically Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, the North Moluccan Islands, and Southwest Papua).

Now that people have had some more time to think about it, going forward would you rather have scenery packs or barnyard style packs with 7 animals and some scenery?
Barnyard for me, the added scenery was far more effective at completing a theme than just 1 exhibit animal. Getting exhibit animals is great but we will never get a good collection of exhibit animals at the rate we were going.

For the most part, I preferred the balance of the Barnyard set. I think that would work well to fill out the few missing props, and I usually prefer more animals.

However, I would miss:
  • Plants (Sometimes the best part of the scenery packs)
  • 4x4 exhibit animals (Maybe they could just do a reptile house pack and add a bunch of them at once.)
    • More Lizards: Chameleons, Geckos, the Chinese Crocodile Lizard, Phillipine Sailfin Dragon, Etc.
    • Snakes: Emerald Tree Boa, Green Anaconda, Cobra, Colorful Snakes (Eyelash Viper, Coral/Milk Snake, White Lipped Island Pit Viper)
    • Amphibians: Giant Salamander, Blue Poison Frog, White's Tree Frog
  • Walkthrough exhibit animals
    • Birds, please! Otherwise, I don't actually need much here.
  • A handful of missing build sets
    • Horizontal logs (cabin) and vertical flexicolor boards for basic use cases.
    • If possible, a tasteful set for Native American architecture (probably NW coast)
    • There's some other ones I'd welcome, but the cabin and Native American set are the only ones I actively miss.

Considering the post I made yesterday, IMO WTE are the biggest mystery of the game for me.
  1. It seems like it was set up for birds yet they never came
  2. The past two DLCs have one regular exhibit animal, and then nothing.
  3. There are only 3 types of animals for the WTE, we have yet to get something else. The sloth was the newest addition in terms of animal type, and then we got another bat.
Part of me feels like they wanted to use it to add birds, then either something fell through or they are waiting (either for a future sequel or maybe if we are lucky a future dlc)

It seems like it was gonna be such a huge feature and now it feels mostly ignored.

Just wanted to add there are also no base game animals that can use the WTE so I am hoping we get something as an anniversary animal that can.

I'm really optimistic that if this is the last pack it goes out with a bang and we get several macaws like how we did butterflies, all the mechanics are there and the fact we didn't get an exhibit animal last pack has me hopeful it is because they are working on something big with them.

All that said I'm not gonna be disappointed either way. The game could end right now and I'd be happy with it even though it is missing things.

Yeah that’s another weird thing, base game players and people who haven’t bought the 4 dlc with WTE animals won’t be able to use them.

A WTE animal coming out for free would be another sign of the end of times for the game's life.

Is possible, but i doubt it will be macaws or anything like that. A slow loris or something niche like that maybe, since it would not replace the need for things like bats, sloth or butterflies that you can only get by BUYING DLCs.

We all know that if we even get a WTE animal for the anniversary it will be a second sloth or a third bat :ROFLMAO:
November 5th 2024:

Frontier - “We want to thank the fans who supported us in 5 years of Planet Zoo, so as a special gift everyone will be given a free walkthrough animal!”

Players - “ Maybe we are gonna get a bird! I wonder what animal it is?”

In all seriousness though, I think it’s possible to get a free WTE animal, but it would have to be something that wouldn’t compete with dlc.

Let’s say birds were coming in the WTE, I can see budgies being the free animal while something like a scarlet macaw or toucan being in a paywall.

If they wanted to add a base game WTE animal they would've done it by now. The only reason they put the WTE in the base game is to make options open for other DLCs other than twilight - like if they put the WTE in the twilight pack but you don't want bats and want butterflies, then you have to buy 2 packs.
Putting the WTE in the base game is purely meant as a reminder or encouragement for players TO buy the DLCs with animals for it.

I Have A Feeling If We Get A Free WTE Bird It Would Be English Carrier Pigeon. It Feels Weird That English, Carrier And Pigeon Are In The Planco Dictionary And Are Very Specific But Aren't Used. It's Also Very Similar Enough To A Regular Pigeon To Be Considered Bland And Also Feel Different Enough For An Anniversary Animal.
