Summer 2024 PDLC speculation

Oh that. This one gets updated pretty frequently. I don't think the development of the next DLC only started with this specific dev_trunk update.
Just to make sure - you're talking about the yellow marked part with number "22806010" on the bottom?? Or the "22806978" dev_release_trunk on the top??

Because the bottom part with yellow marking is important, and it's clearly connecting JWE2 with some other app - dlc or expansion.

Also to add, a DLC or any kind of content drop doesn't necessarily start development soon after the last one's release. For all I know, one or more could've been in development alongside the Secret Species Pack, or even the Cretaceous Predator Pack, because the planning for such things and everything else involving them is more complex and takes more planned ahead time than one may think.

@gabeluna27 If I am not mistaken, FY stands for financial year, is it not?

There was a time this year that Frontier said that they are focusing on the "creative management simulation" games especially Planet Zoo and Jurassic World: Evolution 2. What are the other two CMS games besides these two?

Anything for us to know about FY25, FY26, and FY27?
The other two CMS games they have are JWE1 and Planet Coaster. "FY" is "financial / fiscal" year, and both words are the same thing. For Frontier, it's June 01 to May 31.

Three CMS games were reported in September of 2023. But unknown to much of the JWE fan community, one of them, the FY25 game, was confirmed to be an "own-IP" game since January of 2023, in that year's interim report. Meaning it's a game based on an IP Frontier owns, rather than a game based on a licensed IP like Jurassic World, owned by Universal. The FY25 game is scheduled to be announced and released this year, while not much is known about the others yet aside from releasing each in the next two financial years.

@gabeluna27 Thank you for your explanation. Please keep us updated if there is anything on financial/fiscal year 26 and 27. Because the future of Jurassic World: Evolution 2 is still in question.

Here is how it goes:

There were no species living in the Triassic period in Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. There is one in Jurassic World: Evolution 1. The Triassic period species that are available in Jurassic World: Evolution 2 are carnivorous dinosaurs and marine reptiles that feed on fish. Therefore, this game is missing Triassic herbivorous dinosaurs.

If it is Cretaceous herbivores, what do you say to this list?

- Microceratus: on high demand since its debut in the film Jurassic World: Dominion

- Saltasaurus: the distinguishing feature of the sauropod is the armor.

- Lambeosaurus: with the hatchet-shaped crest, it adds to the diversity of the species discovered in Dinosaur Park Formation

- Stegoceras: a dome-headed pachycephalosaur that is discovered in Kirtland Formation in New Mexico and Dinosaur Park Formation in Alberta

It is best not to have multiple genus/species of the same type.
You know what? This is actually a really good selection of animals.
I haven't seen Saltasaurus suggested much. but it's a cool sauropod and it would be nice to have an armoured sauropod that's actually real. Lambeosaurus is one of the highest requested dinosaurs. And we haven't had a new hadrosaur since the JWE1 Dr. Wu DLC.
Pachycephalosaurs are super underrepresented in the game, especially since Pachy, Stygi and Draco are essentially just the same animal at different growth stages. Stegoceras would be a cool addition.

Well, we are getting JWE2 news this soon.

Well, it’s been teased as to what’s on the way. It’s coming in the next few weeks as JWE2 Junior Product Manager Harry Philbrook teased on the latest Frontier Unlock stream today.

Turns out, it’s actually another 4+ species pack, much to my surprise. I still stand by what I think my best expansion pack guess is coming, but not as the next one that’s been teased, just someday in general.

Since more is coming in the “next few weeks”, I wonder if it’s because it’s releasing on May, which would be a first because Frontier doesn’t usually release two PDLCs for one game between January to May. Plus, it was said the remainder of FY24 will have one DLC pack coming back in January. For Frontier, their fiscal years end in May 31, and they say so in both their reports and on a page in their website. If it is releasing in May, then plans have changed down the line to have two DLCs for the last half of FY24.

By the looks of their teaser, which I know the image will be posted soon enough, shows something quite interesting…

It’s big, it’s got a lot of teeth, and it undoubtedly is underwater.👀
I believe I know what the animal is, but I don’t know what PDLC it’s going to be.

I agree that is most likely a Megalodon. Personally, I would prefer it as part of another Marine Species pack to a Cenozoic pack. With another Marine Species pack - we could see some more cool lagoon decorations, such as a kelp forest. Plus, some other prehistoric marine species like ancient cetacean Basilosaurus, a short neck plesiosaur like Polycotylus, and a fairly small mosasaurid like Globidens.
If it is a Cenozoic species pack - then the 4 species I would like to see are Megalodon, Smilodon, A species of Mammoth, and either a terror bird or Teratorn species.

If it's a Cenozoic Pack, I have the perfect roster: (If we just get 4 Cenozoic Animals, that won't be fair. So I added more species.)
  1. Megalodon.
  2. Woolly Rhinoceros.
  3. Gigantophis.
  4. Ngandong Tiger.
  5. Colombian Mammoth.
  6. Basilosaurus.
  7. Arctodus.
  8. Megatherium.
  9. Ancylotherium.
  10. Gastornis.
  11. Otodus Obliquus.

Based on the teaser, I believe it’s all but officially confirmed that the next DLC is going to be a Cenozoic Species pack and I reckon that the following four animals will be included.
  1. Megalodon, based on the livestream's teaser and its high level of popularity amongst the community.
  2. Smilodon, based on Frontier's track record of adding one animal featured in Camp Cretaceous with their previous species packs.
  3. Woolly Mammoth, the most iconic extinct prehistoric herbivore from the Cenozoic and has a decent amount of lore in the franchise; InGen was recovering highly preserved mammoth carcasses from their Martel facility in Siberia and extracting their DNA in Jurassic World.
  4. Either Haast’s eagle or Argentavis, it’s hard to say for certain which of the two would be better but I do believe that the pack does need an addition for the aviary as there have no been new flying animals added to the game since the Feathered Species pack's Jeholopterus.

The first three are entirely too predictable. The third though... hmm... frankly, I'd rather have something that could coexist with mammoth... at least make an Ice Age mixed exhibit a possibility.

I have other theories, besides aside something generalized Cenozoic themed, and I don’t think they’ll do a second marine themed pack because it doesn’t fit their style. Because of the Prehistoric Marine Species Pack’s title, it’s likely it will be the only exclusively lagoon species pack ever.

It could also be something themed around “large species”, which contains dinos that are categoized as “Large” in the hatcheries, Megalodon included. As well as including skin cosmetics for base game species, just like the Secret Species Pack. Specifically: Little Eatie (T.Rex), the CC Spinosaurus, and/or Firecracker (Brachiosaurus). All of which are for species classified under “Large” in the hatchery selection menu. If so, then it is one of two cases that will finally render my CC themed expansion theory definitively unlikely.

Or, it could be something themed around “piscivorous species”, in which it will include dinos that will encompass all three in-game types of piscivorous feeders: Land/Aviary, Lagoon-Fish, and Lagoon-Shark.

It would be nice to have Megaloceros or Elasmotherium for the DLC, but I do think the game really does need a new aerial animal as they’re the most underrepresented group of animals.

Well, I also think this may mean that we could also get one or 2 more DLCs after this next species pack. As we presently are at 118 species in JWE2. 4 more will put us at 122 species. If the next DLC after this one is a final expansion pack we could see only 3 species added - bring the total to 125 species. If it is another species pack - we would get 4 more species - for a total of 126. With the final DLC being an expansion pack adding 4 more species for a grand total of 130 species.

Eh, with Planet Zoo getting extended support, I could see JWE2 getting expanded support up till 2025 with the release of the new movie.
