COMPLETED CG Support Winters's Forces in LP 855-34 (Mining)

Everybody, I believe. ;)
Has anybody found a way to figure out a way to know if you are on the right side of the ring to drop directly at the station without the need to go through 40km of rocks?
I meant to come back here and mention, but I found a strat that has been serving me pretty well!
When approaching the planet from the star there will be a noticable red nebula on one side of the orbital plane. Stick to that side =3 Easier than trying to remember what the planet looks like, and you don't have to wait til you're close =p

does anyone know what the range of resource boost from a high RES location is? because I feel like I only have to go a little ways out to no longer worry about npc pirates, and I would assume there would be pirates over the whole area?

Don't go to the res sites, hit the platinum hotspots instead. You can find these by using a DSS scanner on the rings. Pirates are very weak at hotspots and only 1 spawns, if even that. I mostly don't see them at all.

I tried equipping more collector limpet controllers to speed up the process but then I realized the fragments were getting cut into smaller chunks too (the asteroid % was decreasing at half the previous increments but more frequently). Is there some kind of strange mechanic here that I'm not aware of?

oh yeah to be clear I'm going to a hotspot, just there's a high res in this hotspot, and people were talking earlier about it being benefitial to go there. I'm well enough defended to handle a few pirates, I just am curious if like, I'm just going too far out to even be worth being here. I have mostly been just mining in random hotspot areas, just wanted to see if it was better here lol

20 km.
Haz RES/high/med/low give respectively +100%/75/45/20 more fragments.
Best is to find a RES inside a Hostspot to combine both bonus.

Macua 2a is VERY juicy, for instance.

20km from the centre. I find that mining in a high RES gives the best of both worlds where you get 75% more fragments while still having some protection from the local police. Just make sure you're not completely helpless yourself!

thank you! okay so it is way smaller than I had expected, I have not been actually mining in the res spot =p And I just filled my hold x.x Now I know for next time!
And yeah I've set myself up okay for defense =3

No, I dont have any idea, but most of the time when the one side starts ahead, then its mostly clear which side will win....
This is why I'm not bothering to mine further. I started with Grom, then when it became clear that Winters was winning, there was no benefit to continuing. New people arriving for the CG will certainly choose Winters as the tier rewards are better.

Even people pledged to Grom will benefit from mining for Winters. If she wins the CG, they get better tier rewards and the extra abrasion blaster if they get into the top 75%. They aren't getting the merits either way.

It's not very well thought out. There needs to be a merit reward for the losing side, plus the potential for those in the top 75% to get the additional blaster. Once one side started winning, the CG design ensured no chance for the other to catch up.

Thanks CMDR. Has been over an hour and I've relogged. Will prioritise patience circuits.
You can also see immediate progress by looking at it in the mission screen at the station, where it should update immediately. In the transactions panel in the ship, it doesn't update until you change instances.

"better tier rewards"...does what you mean include the 200+ million credit reward? That's like...selling 450+ tons of platinum to get the same?
And these engineered abrasion lasers...well, I will take them, sure...

Just wondering what is the point of this CG, and what people are really fighting working for?

Just wait for those thousands of fleet carriers dumping it all on the last day for Grom! :)

That would be awesome, but I doubt it. I mean, on both sides some players are doing it. I doubt Grom's are specifically holding it as a "bomb" to be dropped at the last moment.

Anyone encountering Platinum hotspots with 0 platinum at all?
Been to multiple and 200+ prospectors later...nowt, zip, nadda, zero. No Platinum.
If you are in a "metal rich" ring, then it is expected, though you may find a very few roids with a platinum core.
You must go to a "metallic" ring to laser-mine platinum.

I wonder who at FDev designed this CG, which could not have been more confusing (did they want to sell their prebuilt core mining Python, maybe?). Or do they even know the difference between metal rich and metallic rings???

If they had required platinum to be mined only at the CG system, and had also increased the selling price of any core-only mined goods by x4 (or the current x8), the system would be crawling with core-miners, while keeping the rank competition fair (I mean, you would find less tons while core-mining vs laser-mining but it would be the same for everybody). Anything else than platinum sold would still give a huge profit.
