#support3rdparty - Why we temporarily shut down our sites.

You cant be serious, Parasites? :D

I cant speak for the other devs but my donations dont even cover the £40 a month hosting cost. I made my trade site in alpha to help players with a better trading ui while the in game UI game improved (it never did).
I've spent 1000's of hours working on the site and supporting the players and you think thats parasitic?
What have you done to help the community?

Even though I used EDDB instead of your site, thank you for your hardwork and support of the community. I don't know what some of these posters are on, thinking the 3rd party sites owners are making a profit off of ED, when I doubt donations even cover the cost (as is the case for your site). The word "entitled" comes to mind for some and "curmudgeon" for others.

Again, thank you to you, and the other 3rd party site authors, for all your volunteer work.

I don't use 3rd party crowd-sourced tools as I consider most of them to go against the spirit of the game.

I'd rather have Frontier focus their efforts on adding the depth and complexity to the game that would justify the existence of 3rd party tools to begin with rather than give in to the wiki addicts who are more interested in farming than in discovery.

The Companion API is already there. They just need to make sure to restart the server when they do a major update. I know the developers would like to have additional features but I think given the constraints, that we can live with the actual one. WHAT IS NOT OK IS TO TAKE TIME TO TAKE CONTENT OFF THE API!

Plus, I think it's naive to think that if they don't support it, they will put more time into developing more depth and complexity in the game. They had their chance but they keep adding new features. If you don't know why, then it's easy: new features bring new players which brings new money to Frontier. That's plain and simple.

Of course the community is a pawn in this...but the community is more like rook than a pawn. The loud cacophony of half-truths, fake rage and impassioned debate is sure to steamroll right through Ed. Poor Ed.

And that is the point. As distasteful as it might be.

Also, forgive my ignorance, as I'm not participating due to many beers being consumed on my b-day, how does this impact the event?

Come on Monk, I don't use these tools but many do, unlike some I have no problem with that. The event this weekend would/will have seen many folks using these tools for various reasons to interact with the Salome story. If folks can't or won't play without these tools that could impact participation numbers, any news will be diluted with news of this 'uproar' and more besides.

I full support the 3rd-party developers in this event and after reading the ungrateful replies in this thread that these developers get I propose to prolong the event for duration of the whole month of May. :D

Thanks to every third-party developer for their voluntary work to make ED a great game.

Not true in the slightest. I don't used these tools, and I go exploring, trading and engineering. I have never been lost.

You're welcome to use notepads and pencils but since I'm on a computer, I prefer using intelligent tools. I already don't have too much time to give the game and I won't spend half my time updating my spreadsheets in Excel, thank you very much!

I support the 3rd party devs. FDEV need to realise that their monetary intake is not solely based on their own code, but also, on the code and utilities that build up around their product.

Some of the largest game companies recognised long ago, that allowing and indeed supporting, 3rd party devs, adds numerous benefits to their product/game. It adds to the game play and enhances the longevity of the product.

I read a post here about someone whois organising stuff for the 29th event, and how now, without the 3rd party tools, they're in hell. Well, to me, that speaks volumes, about how necessary these tools are. Lets not forget, that without these events and tools, people would just see ED as another space game, where-as, with them [the tools], it's a whole different world of sim and not just 'game'.

Even FDev can't work properly without the 3rd party tools. :)

Bloody hell...work what? properly? Ask the entity of the BGS if their handy work was --proper. Bob the entry level butcher would offer more refined work.

Their haughtiness will indeed fall...twill be done either the hard way...or the easy way, but fall it will

While a do agree that 3rd Party Creators need easyer acces to .. everything really, i totaly dont agree that you are harming YOURSELF and almost all of the Player base with shutting down your service - and i even more disagree that you are doing it on a weekend, the days where players play that need to work or dont have much time in the week.

Just a question to all those supporting this action. Where exactly would you like this to sit in the priority. You know all the complaining that's been done about the development of Elite recently, you now all suddenly want that to be put on the back burner so that resources can be diverted to talking to some 3rd party developers?

I could live far easier without 2.3 than without tools, for example.

I might be willing to play without either but if I had to choose I would keep tools. The quality of life they offer is far more valuable to me than anything provided in 2.3.

It's a shame. Frontier really needs this to understand that 3rd party developer are an invaluable resource not only for whom plays this game (and buy extra... and make videos... and so on...) but also for them, for the same motivations and many much more?!

The hypocrisy I see in regards to these people, with INARA signatures, just make me sad for the western human race. How about you guys remove these signatures, just to show your disdain for these people who have done nothing to you, and yet you feel obliged to somehow belittle - as if they owe you something'.

The western human race? :D

Won't rep you, but you did make me laugh. [yesnod]

EDIT:
Quote error.
